    How about printing a wax frame and do a lost wax casting? You also don't need to weld, if you put the small wax parts together before...

    I don't see 50,000 when I look at this bike. Where's the money? Not in the materials or hardware unless the motor coils are gold wire wrap. Does it fly or something I didn't see? This is clearly a hobby and not a business nor do they actually want to sell this. The way he came up with the price I believe is: he makes a high income currently and if you want his time and expertise you'll have to pay him more then he makes now to offset time lost. That's why doctors rarely mow there own lawn, it's more cost effective to pay 30$ out sourced then spending an hour getting dirty when you make $400hr. I'd rather go in to work for an hour and make $400 less the $30 to have it done then keep the $370 differance. He's smart, that's why he has one and we're day dreaming.

      its the cost of 3d printing metals that size. the power is quite expensive, then they have to process the powder and do some sintering to get it into a cohesive metal state. if you see the machine time cost of all that, it adds up pretty quick, especially for a part that size.

      @David Blomdahl In English the words THEIR and THERE are spelled differently because they mean different things.

    • @laizalott
      @laizalott 3 года назад

      @David Blomdahl We're also not seeing the development time. People had to use a CAD program and design all those parts, print them, test them, refine them to fix issues, print, test, etc etc...
      If it took a team of 5 engineers a month to build the prototype (and it probably took more people and time than this), that's a minimum of 600-800 hours total human time we need to pay for. If they make 20 euro an hour, we've already hit 12,000 to 15,000, and we haven't even considered the cost of machines, material, facility, power, etc.

    Funny thing is that we already did this in Taiwan years ago with a top speed of over 100km/hr. We are more low tech so the frame was CNC and welded not this laser sintered high tech organic scheisse shape. In total it was a couple thousand US dollars and some spare time and no one was hurt in the process.

    With 50000 Euros you can get an electric motorcycle with 20 kWh worth of batteries and over 300 kmph top speed and still have a couple of thousand Euros left to buy solar panels.

  • @Brendonbosy
    @Brendonbosy 7 лет назад +7

    Seems cool, but it's way too limited for that cost. It looks like it only accommodates 1 rider, can't do highway speeds, and has a sub-100 mile range. What's the point? You could build an electric bicycle for 1/10 the cost with similar specs, or you could get a Zero electric motorcycle for $10-13k that is an actual motorcycle capable of 100 mph and 100+ mile range

    • @daxshell242
      @daxshell242 6 лет назад

      its a question of strapping on a bigger motor and a bigger battery, that frame doesnt look like its even nearing its limitations. i'm guessing the didn't want to deal with trying to get it road certified, so for a prototype they just kept the specs under the limits.

      shred it and extrude it back into filament?

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 7 лет назад +1

      Long term, ABS has no chance to survive in 3D printing. It's not safe to extrude in domestic and office environment, it produces obnoxious fumes and high particulates, and it's easily replaced by the much safer PETG. PETG is in turn easily transformed into lower grade polyesters such as household fabrics, same as currently done with drink bottles.
      On the other hand, many mass produced household items will still be made from ABS, this is nearly the cheapest and by far most popular plastic for household objects, and will land in landfills and burned up in stoves because of aging issues and overproduction. ABS is not long term stable, it becomes brittle with time, and it also degrades during the process of extrusion. Still I guess shredded prints can be used well for less critical injection molded parts.
      PLA will probably remain relevant for a long time, but it's not a major problem, it breaks down like plant and animal tissue.
      But all plastics can be burned in stoves and energy almost the same as from tar or oil of similar volume can be reclaimed, so I think utilization issue isn't all that big, the main issue is collecting the plastics. Of course it's better if it can be reused for new material instead, much more energy efficient and less emissions than making fresh material out of oil, but in the grand scheme of things it's unimportant compared to the amount of oil burned in vehicles, so that should be a priority.
