This song is a slightly reworked cover of a blues song. It refers to a man on the side. When the husband comes home, the side dude heads out the back door. Little girls is old slang for women not children. Younger generation takes everything literal.

"Back Door Man" is a blues song written by American musician Willie Dixon and recorded by Howlin' Wolf in 1960. The lyrics draw on a Southern U.S. cultural term for an extramarital affair. The song is one of several Dixon-Wolf songs that became popular among rock musicians, including the Doors who recorded it for their 1967 self-titled debut album.

The women the back door man messed with made pork and beans for their husbands but cooked chicken (usually reserved for Sunday dinner) for their man on the side...whenever he paid his romantic visit, usually before her husband returns from work.

The Doors were serious students of blues, jazz and flamenco before they teamed up as a rock group, which is why they always sounded more sophisticated and professional than anyone else at the time.

It’s kind of like when some women will call their man, daddy or poppi. Or a guy will call his woman “ baby girl”, it’s like that. He doesn’t mean an actual child.

"Back Door Man" is a blues song originally recorded by Howlin' Wolf in 1960. The song was later covered by The Doors, with Jim Morrison on vocals. The lyrics refer to a man who is having an affair with a married woman and sneaking in through the back door to avoid being caught. The song has been interpreted as a metaphor for rebellion and breaking societal norms.

I just saw your reaction to this song. I’m so happy to see younger people who like The Doors music, it makes me real happy. I LOVE the Doors. They are and will always be my favorite band. My second favorite is Alice In Chains. But I digress; I have read every book and article I could find on Jim Morrison. People have it right from What reviews I’ve read here. He was the man who came creeping in to see the ladies when their husbands were gone to work or were out for the night. BUT, since I’ve read so much about Jim, he also loved what I think you’re thinking about when listening to this song. Yup, he loved having his girls from behind. It was his favorite way to enjoy his ladies. Lol, He was a true back door man in all the ways.
Also, it was normal back in the 60’s & 70’s to refer to young women as little girls. He called his woman Pamela Courson his little girl but she was in her 20’s.

For one, little girl doesn’t mean what you’re thinking. It’s not literally a little girl he’s talking about. As to back door man, the men don’t know? He’s the guy girls cheat on their man with. So he uses the back door to leave as the guys coming in the front door. It’s also a cover. Old blues reinvented 😉

When walk out the front door to go to work Jim (the backdoor man) is walking in the backdoor. The men don't know rephrased the husband is at work and don't know the happenings at his home. But the little girls understand rephrased the guys little woman. little wife etc...little girl is a euphemism for wife. Any she understands why Jim keeps coming through the backdoor while her mans not home.

We seen them perform in 69 at the Arizona State Coliseum during the fair.
After the concert the band rode the Tramway across the Fairgrounds. Unfortunately they were screaming lewd remarks and spitting on people as they did so. Caused controversy and they were asked not to come back. That wouldn't have lasted. They weren't the only bands that we're getting pushed back at the time. It was around then when they crack down on all the smoking in the Colosseum.
And other places like the ASU Activity Center. You couldn't even see the stage during the Iron Butterfly concert there was so much pot smoking in the air.lol
Would love to see your reaction listening to the Alabama Song AKA whiskey bar.
Keep in mind when they talk of a little girl it's slang for whiskey.
Going to do an album might as well make it a compilation and do Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine.
There's a reference to that on the song The End (I think)
And that is in reference to a acid trip they were all on out in the desert by a gold mine.lol
Morrison was heavily into the Mayan and Aztec cultures.

How about "An American Prayer." 1978. It was issued after Morrison had died by the three remaining members who created the music for Morrisons spoken word poetry. It's very good plus you get to her Morrison's just speaking. I think his poetry is pretty decent. It's got a nice rhythm to it. If he had lived, he may have become a minor poet.

The phrase ‘Back Door Man’ has been explained in your comments but not exactly right - in the South in the older days anything you were ashamed of or wanted to keep private you slipped in the back door so neighbors wouldn’t see it. So on this case while a man is at work the wife might slip her lover on through the back door to keep it hidden. This phrase is from the early 1900’s and is used a lot in rock and blues songs like AC DC’s ‘Dirty Deeds’ and it always creates a little confusion. The woman serves her lover chicken and her husband beans, that means he’s good at what he does. I dig your reactions.

By today's standards "little girls" sounds highly inappropriate as literal little girls, but in the 60s it meant women. It is a sexist term today, degrading to women, as though they were as clueless as little girls and needed to be put in their places, so calling them "little gitls" made them inferior to grown men. Maybe that sounds "out there," but I lived it. A LOT has changed (thank God) since the 60s.
