World 5 is a massive tone shift compared with the tranquil atmosphere and tone of Worlds 3 and 4, and not just the music and art style but also the first level really solidify this. The first star of Space Storm Galaxy is literally the only non-boss star that you need to collect outside of World 1 (the tutorial world) and World S, and one of a small number of non-boss galaxies you cannot skip, which I think could very well be a conscious decision to enhance the feeling of unease established upon first entering World 5. The turbulent nature of this level and the music really speaks "this shit is serious now" in a way which isn't really matched in galaxy 1, where the less linear level progression kind of makes every level between the bedroom dome and the galaxy reactor optional, limiting their impact on the atmosphere (dare I say 'plot') of the playing experience. A gearmo says that things are getting serious in the engine room in galaxy 1, but the first level you encounter there is an autumnal retheme of the game's third level with lots of friendly bees and bunnies so it doesn't really hold up as much. World 6 of Galaxy 2 adds to the atmosphere of World 5, adding an air of almost desperation I guess - you need to do this, even if it kills you, and there's a good chance it might. Of course galaxy 1 has a more tight lock on the serene and almost tragic space feel while galaxy 2 has more of a playful adventure feel, but I think it can be a bit more multifaceted at times. Galaxy 2 I think is better at building tension - outside of the opening cutscene and those from the final level, in the first game you get Bowser's sun growing from the first to third Bowser level and that's it (it's absent entirely in the second Bowser level). Both are fantastic games with surprising atmospheric differences considering their more noticeable similarities - just thought I'd add my two cents here :)
Fr I agree, I mean it’s a spectacle to look at but something fells uncanny about it, idk if it’s the endless void at the bottom or the immense amount of galaxies close to each other, or the music but does feel off
Welcome to this penultimate step on the path to nostalgia. This world is world 5, the world where it started to become too hard for us as children. The music and the general atmosphere is quite chaotic, but less than the atmosphere of world 6. This world is incredible because it reinforces this feeling of helplessness in the face of the dangers of future galaxies. AND THIS FUCKING FLEET GLIDE GALAXY SUCKS. Good relaxation
These words come in. Mario.. You have gone so far.. But is it really worth it your so far away from home.. Do you care of the princess more or your whole universe in its depths..? You've done great.. Its serious now.. So be prepared for a tough one Mario..

I LOVE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT IT.🤍🪞🪽
Well, today marks the day I find out that World 5's backround does in fact move and isn't just a still image.
If I speed up the video I can actually see The little swirly things move
@@laytonduncan9627 you don’t need to speed it up though, and those are no common swirly things like u just said HAHAHA
@@ErykRoll 😒
@@laytonduncan9627 i mean do you at least know what a galaxy is? 😭
@@ErykRoll who cares lmao it aint that deep
I love the slogan of this World: “The Trial of the Galaxies”
That first piano note never fails to send a chill down my spine.
if you have a fullsize piano, you can play the lowest D register of it and you'll have the same experience!
Frankly my favourite world map theme, it feels mysterious, ominous and yet somehow encouraging.
When you first enter this world, it’s like there’s a giant billboard in the middle of the screen that says “Ok, this shit is serious now”

My favorite world as well. It's so beautiful *and* also a little bit disturbing.
