Getting Started with LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor - Everything You Must Know

  • The LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor does not come with any helpful documentation that teaches you how to get up and running with the platform; the included Quick-Start Guide is more concerned about protecting the environment than teaching you how to use this fourth-generation of LEGO MINDSTORMS. As I noted in my review video last week, Robot Inventor is a brilliant robotics platform that brings many impressive new features to the table, but my biggest frustration is the lack of documentation to teach you how to get started with the robot.
    Today, I seek to close that gap by providing a comprehensive getting-started guide that teaches everything you need to know about using the Robot Inventor for the first time: turning the Intelligent Hub on and off, charging the Intelligent Hub, connecting to a smart device, troubleshooting connections, navigating the new MINDSTORMS app, updating the Intelligent Hub operating system, updating the motors, running the demo to verify that all motors and sensors work, traversing the module-style tutorials, and building your first robot.

There are so many different blocks (and the variables) which all look to do cool things but I can't find any good videos on them. Is this something you're planning to create?

    Hey, thanks for the video, very useful! I've got a question, hope you can help me out, i've been charging the hub like for an hour every time I have to, this since i got the kit a week ago, since yesterday the hub has been turning off quickly while im using it, i turn it on and 1 minute later it gets off, could this be cause probably im not using the corret type of charger adapter? Is there something specific i got to do to charge it correctly? Or what could be happening, i'll really appreciate your answer, thanks!

    Hello Builderdude35! I'm Aren from the FLL team Brain Waves. We're extremely happy that you're posting again! We know that you're taking a break from EV3 content, but do you have any tips on how to prevent Gyro Drifts? My team is competing in this year's FLL tournament and we are using the Gyro Sensor for a lot of turns. If you can tell us some tips on how to prevent Gyro Drifts, that would be helpful! Too bad you couldn't have published this video Christmas Day. It freaked me out to have all those error messages pop up and Lego was slammed with customer service calls. After checking with a few chat rooms, it seems that most everyone was getting those same errors. Nice that you are showing people how to take it in stride and work through it.

    Thank you very much for the detailed explanation !
    My issue is its very difficult to turn the motors manually.I can turn it but with great force. At 6:19 you seem to turn them quite easily. Mine feels like I will break the internal gear mechanism. Is this normal ?

    • @Builderdude35
      @Builderdude35  2 года назад +1

      No, that is not normal; it should be relatively easy to turn the motors by hand, as long as they are note currently in "brake" mode because a program is running. Have you tried turning the motor on its own, not plugged in to the hub and without a program running? They should turn relatively easily.

    • @sudha124ragu
      @sudha124ragu 2 года назад

      @@Builderdude35 Even when not plugged in, it’s harder to turn for the first few degrees then it gets better. But again after the initial push I can feel the friction throughout the turn from the inner parts. All my 4 motors behave the same. I hope it’s normal. I guess I should not expect it to rotate freely like a flywheel.
      Thank you so much for taking the time to reply back

      @@Builderdude35 speaking of new things , in your video ,,Goals for 2021,, at 1:48 you mentioned that you kinda ran out of video ideas for Ev3
      Well, there are plenty of subjects i haven't seen you debate more in the past 6 years i have been subscribed
      For example, the motor stall program , the video was about a basic use, such as a ,,my block,, for moving forward. Ever thought about trying to make a ,,line follower,, that doesn't use the light sensors and instead it is capable to detect if a wheel has stall or is moving faster than its supposed on a certain surface ? This has become a recent practice in the WRO for precise movements without relying on the ,,gyro,, sensor
      .
      ( i don't like the ev3 gyro wich is why i marked it that way)

    • @Builderdude35
      @Builderdude35  3 года назад

      @@OWNEDGAMINGwasd I actually covered something similar to your example: I think I (rather creatively) called it a Motor Encoder Drive-Straight program, basically using a proportional controller to sync the motor rotation speed right and left. However, I agree that there may be a few fringe possibilities for me to explore, even if I can't think of them all myself

    I've learned that the music that accompanies many movies adds emotion to the outcome. But this requires accomplished musicians with a deep knowledge of appropriate music. Most of the music I hear on RUclips detracts from the information conveyed likely because the creator lacks the talent to choose appropriate music. That is not to say anything against the creator, why should we expect them to know both their subject and music. Look at the list of contributors to a film, perhaps 50 or more. Not required for these excellent tutorials.
