Balmain had the wood on South Sydney big time . Souths were a tough skilful team for sure who had a great season and were just nudged by Parramatta for Minor Premier honours in 1986 . The Tigers though in some ways were a bigger version of Souths and those clashes in the 80's were epic to say the least . Balmain knocked over Souths 30-13 in round 13 at Redfern , repeated the dose in this game here 38-20 at Leichhardt . 2 weeks later the 2 teams would meet in the Minor Semi on Saturday September 13th when Balmain would win 36- 11.
I was a big John Owens fan and at the end of the season he gave that jersey number 25 to me, i wore that jersey very proudly. Great game, Great Memories.
