This is gonna be a great upgrade for what I have in mind. taking my computer and sticking it in a closet with an external power switch, and Power LED being ran all the way from the closet to the L shaped Desk. that way I don't have to run from my desk to my closet and turn on my PC that way.
Cute switch. But you don't actually have to check the polarity for mechanical switches. It's just like touching two wires together - doesn't matter which one goes where. Same with a relay btw. Could be different for an electronic switch though (idea for next video: hacking a 433MHz radio remote light switch or similar into a PC power switch) .
True, I actually forgot about that fact, the LEDs you will need to, but as for the switches it does not matter. Good catch!
@@MaxsTech It was a perfectly good explanation on how to check polarity though!
It's funnier when you realise there was nothing about checking the polarity when the splitter was put in... 🤣
Silverstone (the case maker) makes a wireless switch you can buy for about $35.
Cool idea, maybe I can incorporate it into my next build. With gpu and cpus coming out I'm waiting to see whether RTX 40 or 30 series or AMD is the way to go. Fun times.
If you've got a soldering station and an old keyboard you could make one,it's a rather affordable alternative
How man? I got everything
Amazing video. I was able to do this myself in under 10 minutes. Thanks so much
I have a question! Would be happy if you answer...
What should I do if I want to light up both of the external power button and PC Case power indicators lights?
Brilliant!
Liked and Subscribed.
I ordered the external power switch (plus it looks like it ALSO comes with the splitter cables).
kinda of a dick move of them not including the damn led splitter
Always wanted to do this, thanks bro....✌
Doo you need the ''weideer 12mm Momentary Push Button Switch Metal''?
Well edited video. Would you happen to know the length of the cord coming out of your case? I know it will be different for each case, but luckily I have the same one as you. Thank you for your time!
It was about 3-4 feet
Thanks bro. Will post here again when I get it installed. 🙂
I think I'll just get a momentary switch from auto shop and splice in with disconnects from the stock button wires. So I can use either
Great video! I have a Dell XPS that has a 5-pin connector with the power switch and power LED all integrated into that one connector. Is there a way I can still use this external power button to connect to my PC? Also, the external power button I got came with a splitter that has 4 connectors total for two power switches and two LEDs (one set for original computer case and other set for new power button). Therefore the connector that is meant to connect to the motherboard is a single, long 4-pin connector. Would this work somehow with my computer? Thanks for the help.
I was able to do this but way cooler instead doing it with a Lamborghini start button on my desk and holy it feels sick
thank you!! i bought a button and it didn't come with any instructions. i felt it was pretty self explanatory but I wanted to be sure.
Is it possible to just wrap a copper wire around the pins on the motherboard instead of using a female connector?
yes.... but please don't do that, don't be stupid.
Yea i did that, just make sure wires don’t touch each other.
I forgot that and then wondered why my pc goes on & off without pressing the button 😅
nice vid Max
Could you do a video on how to wire a race ignition as a pc power button
My power switch for my Asus G11CD is broken. Even though the desktop is about 8 years old I'm hoping this anywhere power switch will save me a bunch of $$ compared to having to replace an entire machine as I'm not ready to upgrade yet lol. The connector pins are there in the motherboard thankfully.
Thank you so much!
Could U please answer this question? Does ATX external power switch work with mini PC's? The reason I ask becasue my recently purchase DKE power switch work with my desktop but not with my mini (which I think is ITX)!
I need something like this, but for a laptop 😅 any ideas?
Hey ive got a question if my power button doesnt work anymore can i just keep using the screw driver manually to open my pc will it like harm any of my components or break anything because im kind of scared but i already did power jump my pc and it work can i just keep using my screw driver for the rest of the pcs life span? thank you!
You can…but seems like a pain lol up to you though, it’s basically doing the same thing the button does, just connects those 2 pieces of metal. So if you wish to, you can with no worries of harm, it’ll just be annoying to have to do.
@@MaxsTech thank you so muchh! its much better rather than buying my self anything flashy or new 🙏
Thanks, awesome review, question, can the case power led be connected to the power led header - and the switch led be connected to the storage activity led? or the opposite? thanks!
It's just an LED in the remote switch. You can connect it to any LED header you want.
what if my front panel header cables are grouped into one single 10 pin female cover? What im trying to say is i cant only take out the power switch cable i can only take out all of them at once
you can modify the connector to your motherboard to have jumpers on the correct pins, then wire the splitter to one pair and your case button to the other.
hey my pc is dell 7050 micro, i cant seem to find those pins on the manual either
can i do this with my laptop if yes how and if no is there any other way to do ..??
I had a simular question to this... is it possible that when you press the power button on you pc to turn on all your monitors because i dont want my monitors in power save mode...
A quick question i got a propleme (too long to describe) can i unplug my recently power button and just put an second extern button on my table so that i have only the extern power switch
Absolutely you can! Just unplug your case switch and plug in the external one. No need for any splitter.
If you replace a power switch on a dell computer because you want to swap the motherboard will it work
can i hook this to a mini HP EliteDesk 800 g2?
anyone got a diffrent place to buy the splitter? amazon doesnt deliver that product to switzerland and I can't find anything by googling
AliExpress
So my wire for that part of the motherboard has all of those wires together could it still work?
If you’re able to separate them you could, otherwise you would need to somehow splice into the power switch wire alone…it would have to be a bit rigged up.
the switch is out of stock
You can find plenty of them on Amazon in different styles. I just bought one branded as DKE. It was under $10 and came with a splitter.
Make your own by bying one keyboard switch and the cables
Help!!!! So I have a GIGABYTE B550 Vision D-P motherboard, and a Lian li o11 case my front panel connector doesn't have separate pins so can I keep it plugged in and plug this little power switch next to it or do I have to remove it? I'm new to this
From what I can see it looks like the motherboard has all the necessary connections in the bottom right corner next to that orange sata port. I can’t find anything to show me the connector on that case but if it’s a preassembled single connector and not separate wires you may not be able to use this external switch.
My cpu button is damaged. Can I use this as a permanent solution? Don't want to buy new cabinet. Please advice
If you’d like, sure. No problem using this forever. Does the same function as the main button.
Is this possible for a laptop ?
My hp gives me bios error failure cable
is it possible to install this to a laptop
Would this work with a laptop?
Is there any chance you know how to add an external power switch to a laptop? I want to keep my laptop closed and operate the PC on my external monitor but the power button is on the inside and i need it on the outside.
It’s not perfect but you can go into your power settings and change the “closed lid” option for laptops to only turn off the screen. You can then put the PC to sleep and wake it up with a mouse or keyboard click. Unfortunately that’s the only method I could think of to keep the laptop closed.
nice but i cant find that switch in italy or europe reseller and i had to import from usa to 60$ with ship wtf...
Can we connect it to mini pc intelnuc?
now how do i make that 1 key keyboard
What’s the name of this cable
Could someone help me on this, I have a Dell motherboard (0427JK) and I don't think I have these pins like the video? I think mine is a 'mini' version but don't know enough about PC's to say for definite, are there cables I can get that would go from mini to standard as I have one of these power buttons on order already?
Do you happen to have the dell xps 8930? Or 8940? Looks like it’s a prebuilt from dell that may use their own custom proprietary board and front connector. Looks to be like a single 4 pin port, you can try to follow that and see where it leads to, you may be able to find the wires where the power button plug into that cable and use that.
Great job my hillbilly friend. I’m going to give it a shot.
what if laptop? is that possible?
do anyone know if i can do this with a laptop with closed lid? i use my laptop as a desktop and is always closed under my monitor support
Laptops dont use standard motherboards so their power buttons are usually soldered on directly :/
Is it okay if I dont plug the LED lights?
Totally optional
does this work with Xbox series s?
Does it work with xbox
but what if my front panel cable comes all together
Unfortunately the only way to add a switch in for that scenario would be to splice a wire into that combined plug… or find a way to separate them
How long is the cable?
I need a cable that’s 3m long really
It’s about 6ft long
All you need to make it custom length is to find a bit of extra wire (eg: from a dead electronic device) and a soldering iron.
Great video! Really lame shirt tho, go SpaceX!
Can you use this switch On a standard laptop?
I think no, cable doesn’t fit the one in laptop’s motherboard.
can u do for laptop
No
I connected this with a sonoff re5v1c which let's me tell my alexa to turn my pc on and off
do you know 2.5GbE switch?
Does this work on a laptop?
Im using acer nitro 5 and power button is not working
I have a better solution! I simply wanted to turn on my PC by remote control at home as I did not want to get up out of my chair with my yellow lab sitting on my lap. I also did not want to use a phone or app to turn it on and off so here is how I did it. I added a remote control to my Minisforum mini pc by adding a "remote control power strip". Set the Bios (hit delete button during boot up), change the setting to enable pc to start after power outage. Then simply turn the pc off normally but after pc shuts down power off the power strip. When you turn power strip back on PC boots up automatically. Simple, cheap and effective! Hope this helps everyone.
Why is this a cable? Ugh. I need it to be wireless. The only one I’ve seen uses an adapter card which is dumb too. Seems like this would be easy???
Bruh
I would like to get a solution via usb-c. Plug and play.
This pci-e remote thing is horrible. I agree with you.
Great content, but for the love of god please keep the sub and like promotions AWAY from the literally middle of the content I’m trying to watch
why on earth would you wanna have something like this??? sigh* 90K views
Try thinking outside the box, get creative :) many others have!
now show me how to do this on a laptop
