This and the Paul Davids review inspired me to buy a Kernom Ridge and my oh my it has not disappointed. Whether it can recreate a legendary pedal in an A/B doesn't really matter to me, what matters is can I quickly dial in a great tone and will it cover a lot of bases for its real-estate. The short answer is that the Ridge pretty much does it all quickly and easily. The mood control basically allows you to dial in 6-7 different OD/fuzz pedals and then the brilliantly design EQ section allows you to sculpt that in seconds. I had not really appreciated the value of EQ BEFORE the pedal until I worked with the pre-tone here, it is genius. Also genius is the dedicated cut/boost mid control... essentially this lets you hump or scoop the mid like you would on a Boogie graphic EQ; works a charm. Bottom line here is that the Kernom is all I need on my board and it displaced Jessie Davey's Duelist, which has been my much loved staple for some years (and itself threw the Sunset and all-other-comers off), Strymon Sunset is not even in the same class as either of them. With the mood cranked left the Kernom is even in 'always on' territory. I'm not a big writer of reviews and am certainly not an influencer... just another guy like most here, but thought it might be useful to share here among fellow guitarists since these things are still rather rare at the moment. Build quality is also superb and the metal enclosure is solid, yeah it looks a little unusual but geeez does it deliver so who cares. For info I'm using a CS Strat into Victory The Jack/Victory Creamback cab and play mostly blues/classic/80's stuff. HTH. (Lee/Pete, thanks for the outstanding video).
Mine arrived from Kernom earlier this week. Killer pedal and a great review! That said, it can get even closer to the different sounds you were after once you get your head around how it works. Start with mood and get in the general range for the type of drive you're after. You guys, for instance, did a lot of tweaking trying to get it to sound like a KOT on the boost and more TS modes, and not enough in the middle, which is bluesbreaker territory. Once you have that right get as close as you can with the eq flat and get the drive in the ballpark, THEN move on to your eq. Understand that the pre-eq makes a MASSIVE difference in the tonal character of the drive. The mid helps with presence and boosting the amount of drive, and the post-eq kinda corrects what you did in the pre-to your final taste. So looking for, say a klon sound, use the pre to cut the bass (as klons tend to do), tweak the mids, and then you can return as much bass as you want on the post eq and know it won't be at all flubby from the distortion circuit (or leave it out to be more klon like). The mood and the pre-eq are the keys with this pedal and between them, I'm not sure I'll need another drive pedal (who am I kidding, I'll buy them anyway). lol My Chase Bliss Preamp MkII is going up for sale! :)
Hi Ezm69! Mine arrived too. Its great. Im noticing when the mood knob is at around 9 o clock, there is a very sudden switch, not really a gradual/fluent transition, but almost like a switch being turned. Does your have that too?
Thanks for this. Sounds like we are similar (though I’ll be keeping my Automatone MkII 🤓). Mine arrives soon and I’ll likely follow the same logical steps you outlined here. Hopefully we will be able to share custom settings as we become more familiar with the pedal. Enjoy and keep exploring 🤙

5:50 Pete's absolutely right. This tech should definitely be in an amp. I'd buy the damn thing. Throw in a nice sized foot slider on the footswitch and you've got something special.
And yeah, put something like an HX Stomp XL in the effects loop and hey presto, twin XLR direct outputs, and you’ve got an hugely versatile rig. If you need a fuzz, just throw it in the front of the amp.
I wanna visit Europe....drop in at Anderton’s; to thank the Captain & Danish Pete for the joy and informational honesty they’ve brought to my life. Congrats, you deserve 8 million subs
I honestly think the coolest thing about this pedal is that you can pair it with any amp and come up with an inspiring sound to you. I haven't bought music gear in years. This pedal I'm thinking about because it completely eliminates the question of "which overdrive should I use?". You just plug it in and come up with something you're happy with and you're done.
it's true but the appeal of having the sounds split up into the originals is having them accessible quicker and on their own. really depends on what you do. i guess savable presets would help with that
The easy answer to "which overdrive should I use" is all of em. This is a hell of a cool pedal and the price is right in the middle somewhere. Two of the pedals on that board are obscenely expensive so this thing is a no brainer. But just go to the store man. They'll let you try anything you want.
Good to see this. I see some great comments and quite a few haters that just want to put things down and I don’t mind their opinions, but I do want to hear from the ones who have it or have tried it. Mine was ordered about a month ago and is finally on the way! Can’t wait to try it!

For a single pedal to be versatile enough to get that close to the KOT & Klon is amazing by itself. Add all the additional sounds it actually does make sense to buy two Kernom pedals. I would never pay $$$$ + for a pedal, ( Klon ) or even wait over a year ( KOT ) for one to arrive when I can get one or two of these for a fraction of the cost.
I saw Paul Davids' video and immediately placed a preorder on Andertons 2 weeks ago (best price for US shoppers!). This is everything I've been looking for in an all-in-one drive pedal. Glad to see you guys got some great sounds out of it. Looking forward to finally getting it in my hands.

@@Paul_Lenard_Ewing While I don't deny there's a lot of hype around this pedal, it did sound stellar in this video. Super close to the KoT and the Klon, sometimes virtually indescernible. If the Ridge had just a basic cycle through like 3-4 saved presets on the left foot switch - it would seriously be the perfect overdrive pedal. Shame it doesn't have that but it's still mind blowing how good and versatile it is. I just love how much it breaks through all of the preconceptions people have built up around overdrives. Even the whole "it can't do the sound of 2 drives stacked" thing. The kernom paired with a simple EQ pedal, and you don't need any other drive pedal
Very good demo! Thanks! It leaves me with two questions. Can it regain the rich overtones of a tube-driven OD, eg Kingsley Minstrel? How does it react when you turn down the volume on the guitar? A really good OD keeps the volume but reduces the gain, like the one mentioned above. It's been 9 months since you posted the video, so maybe too late to ask questions.
I'd like to see a side by side with some of the other digitally controlled analogue pedals , Strymon and that Chase Bliss monster thing with the motor faders
True! They both sound so good! I’m totally new to MIDI so I’m excited to be able to use different tones for different songs live! I’ve been using my BB overdrive for years which I love, but I always just kept it on the same setting.
I'm a noob at electronics, so it boggles my mind that an all-analog pedal can have presets and MIDI control. Congrats on the 800K! We'll be at a million in no time!
I TOTALLY AGREED with Cap when he says that Klon is overrated! Damn right: is a good pedal, great sound but hey! Not the Holy Grail…but probably I say this ‘cause I can’t afford it…😂😂😂😂
No- you're right. It's absolutely overrated, in fact I've seen blind tests where the ppl consistently picked a 20 dollar clone over the actual Centaur. They took two pedals- hid them, let the ppl hear them- and then ask them to pick the most expensive drive. Almost without exception they chose the 20-dollar Mosky silver horse over the Klon. When asked why they chose it as the more expensive pedal they all said the same thing- it sounded better. They assumed that the more expensive pedal would sound better- which makes sense, but it didn't.

Congrats on 800k!
Congrats on 800k!!
Great video as always! Congrats on 800k 🎉 looking forward to winning the two pedals 😂
800k 🎉🎉🎉 well done all involved
Guessing this is a scammer for details
No KOT comparison in the timestamps? Awesome video just a nice vibe :):)
Congrats 800K
Would love to see a battle of the ‘do it all’ drive pedals - this, Hamstead, Empress, Great Eastern FX etc
Bravo on the 800,000!
If you watch very closely, you can pinpoint the second when Pete’s brain implodes during the Captain’s explanation 😂
now we need a Kernom Ridge vs that Chase Bliss with all the sliders
Exactly what I was thinking
This seems actually really close in functionality to the Strymon Riverside. But I think it sounds a bit better.
hit me up is a scammer
I'd like to see a side by side with some of the other digitally controlled analogue pedals , Strymon and that Chase Bliss monster thing with the motor faders
Yes I’m so torn which one to get lol!
@@kristenrocksfrags8584 I suspect they all do so much that getting a good tone is not the issue. It comes down to your own setup and work flow.
True! They both sound so good! I’m totally new to MIDI so I’m excited to be able to use different tones for different songs live! I’ve been using my BB overdrive for years which I love, but I always just kept it on the same setting.
The Captain has a crush on Paul Davids like Pete has on Chris Buck. 😉🤣🤣
Nice sound. I would like to have one too.
I'm a noob at electronics, so it boggles my mind that an all-analog pedal can have presets and MIDI control.
Congrats on the 800K! We'll be at a million in no time!
Signal path is analog, preset saving and Midi are not.
@@seusicha but how are the analog pot values changed by digital signals?
@@seusicha just like tap tempo on all analogue delay is digital, doesnt affect sound
🎉 well done on 800k
