Yes, it can work for deposits. I've used the Chase ATM with my phone to do deposits. Generally, you can only do deposits at the ATMs owned by your bank (not at another bank's ATM) though.
If you want to do the contactless, usually you have to use that bank's card. So, Chase will only take Chase cards for contactless. If you're inserting the card, generally you can use almost any card at any ATM (but you'll sometimes get fees).
