It's important to note (according to the text) that Cain and Abel's offerings were not requested by God. The two (competing?) brothers were simply looking for an "attaboy," perhaps. Then God just "looked" at Abel's offering and panned Cain's-saying nothing. No evaluation. No consuming heavenly fire of acceptance. God gave nothing more than a glance. Abel was willing to accept such a response. Not Cain, who became downcast and angry-perhaps reading more into the glance than was intended. God's counsel to Cain afterwards reveals profound motivations. "If you do well, will not you be happy? If you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door and its desire is for you. But you must master it." The word, "sin" is translated from the Hebrew noun meaning "offense." Question is, who was offended? Just as Cain would have been happy had things gone as he expected, he was offended when things did not. It's THAT offense that can leap and grab hold to take human nature down unintended paths. Like a beast. (Don't we see that scenario played out repeatedly even today?) But what was that door about? (Just opening up a rabbit trail for those interested.)
That passage reads this way, that Cain brought SOME fruits from his harvest while Abel brought the first fruits and not only the first fruits but the fatted (best) of the first fruits. It is not so much about blood but about offering God your best/finest. But for argument sake let's agree that their is the blood element at play here. " For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness for sin" So Abel not only offers the first fruits, the fat/best, but he also bring a blood offering. So Cain becomes irrate because his is rejected while Abel's is accepted. God didn't reject Cain just his offering but Cain is incapable of seeing that so he murmers to himself you want a blood sacrifice God? I will give you a blood sacrifice so he proceeds to take the life of his 'acceptable" brother. He spills his brother's blood. Cain wanted to be accepted on his own terms and not on God's terms. Humanity hasn't changed much. We are still trying to force our terms on God. Hebrew 12:24
The fig tree being a symbol of Israel in the Bible is surely typological in this story. Sins needing to be covered which would very soon need to be covered by the shedding of animal sacrificial blood for the Israelites then Jesus’ blood under the new covenant.
Tell me the Cain and Abel story was a metaphor for something else (I'm not sure what) and not meant to be taken literally. If it was a true story it would show that the Hebrew god was playing favorites with his two children instead of loving them equally. Cain worked very hard as a farmer growing vegetables to please his master and what did he get? Scorn. God knew how this would turn out - Abel is with God and Cain must wander the earth where he would meet his wife in the Land of Nod(!) Wow, some pages are missing here.
Cain’s Spirit cannot be Eternal. Like hell cannot be eternal. Hell was created and so was Cain. If they had s beginning, then they have to have an end. That is why the only way we can have Eternal Life is to have God’s Spirit dwell in us, that is the reason for the new birth. We have Eternal Life dwelling in us now. That is why we need a new body that is compatible with the Spirit of God that dwells in us NOW
So the story of Cain and Abel is about... Marxism? Oh, stop it. This story is a moral tale for all of humanity: for every era, for every culture, for every ideology. Metaxas is a bright guy but his main talent nowadays is in never missing an opportunity to make scripture into a political weapon. It's apparently a good career move.
Sorry but it’s true. They’d have you believe Marx / Engle, the Fabians and Bolsheviks had a “new” idea but it keeps on going back past Moore, the early Christians, Socrates, to Cain and Abel. Immoral, Godless, communism wants / covets what belongs to his brother. And that is the whole brief but bloody history of mankind. Cheers 🍻
Thank you Mr Metaxas and Mr Peterson for a Profoundly motivating podcast😇
I am so glad Peterson has become a believer! He was always sooo close!
It’s why the Holiness of God is such a major theme throughout Holy Scripture, beginning to end. See book by RC Sproul of the same title. 👊🏼
Yes. Holiness is God's most significant attribute.
And most Christian’s don’t understand this and don’t have a problem saying “OMG” and think nothing of it.
Love RC
His Ecclesiastes lectures are my favorite
@@kaleb4214 Thanks. I'll look into it!
As Paul said "We war against Principaliities and powers" not flesh and blood.
Yes but people are always taking sides and acting out.
I love how humble Jordan Petterson is
This “spirit of Cain” concept has been with me for a while.
Trust and l obey our Lord. Prayers 🙏🤲😊❤

Totally spot on, my friend!
We work out our salvation in fear Honor and trembling of God's wrath. Both good or evil

Listen to John MacArthur, His sermons will help you a lot
