I am so glad you approached this after some sleep. When you get frustrated, just walk away, relax and get some sleep. A fresh mind and body is always best.
Excellent advice.
That's nice when you have that ability on a project car like this, but what about when you need to get something working so you have something to drive into work the next day at 8 AM? That is when the frustration and desperation really sets in. Would love to have something fun to work on where you don't have to deal with that stress.
Funny thing about being frustrated in any technical road block step... the simple rule is walk away... and relax! Shit will come to you eventually! Heck, anyone heard about breakthroughs? You ain't gonna get that while cursing and being pissed off that something won't work as planned. Just my 2 small "c"...
Sarah?...That driveshaft final install was good, creative, full body, wrenching!...Kudos! Arms, elbows, torso, knees, legs, feet...they are all acceptable tools in the shop! I like watching a REAL mechanic working in a modestly-equipped garage. You get to see problem-solving at its very best.
You come off just goofy enough to be fun to watch, very genuine, and a pretty solid 'wrench'. You, my dear, have nailed your niche!
If I had a dollar for every time I laid on my back in the dirt and "walked" under a car on my shoulder blades with some heavy object on my chest, fasteners in one hand, and a wrench in the other! Or...held the back of a transmission up with a wood block and 2 X 4 lever with one hand while putting in trans mount bolts and snugging them with the other. Gotta' love rollin' around in the dirt with a Borg-Warner T-50 on your chest, too...they're small and light, so you can get away with it, but they kept breaking for some reason!
Then there was the New Year's Eve party where I put a freshly rebuilt '64 wildcat engine in my girlfriend's '77 Skylark. Tin shed, dirt floor, minus 20 Fahrenheit, 1500 Watt electric heater pointed at the toolbox, and hours with a prybar wiggling the engine with one hand while trying to put a motor mount bolt in a hole I couldn't see with a fingertip I couldn't feel!
I did a series of three GM H-bodies... a Monza and two Sunbirds, with some Skyhawk pieces-parts for good measure. The first two were done in the dirt. All were stripped down to the unibody, parts-wise and rebuilt. Nothing pretty, just go-fast sleepers. My last GM H-body was assembled from miscellaneous factory parts, in a very non-standard configuration, in my brother's heated, concrete-floored, garage. It felt like wrenchin' in the damned Taj Mahal! I pushed in a dirty, oily, disgustingly rust-free, carcass and drove out in a 350 CID-powered, 5-speed, air-conditioned, Monza-Bird-Hawk hatchback with '80 Malibu steering knuckles and brakes. She'd run a buck and a half on a slight downhill at 4,500 RPM, and 140 coming back up...not a stitch of aero, she'd get a little 'light on her toes' at speed. I had $1,200-$1,300 in it, including a rattle-can rebuild! Two barrel carb, GM HEI ignition, and God's grace were the limiting factors.
Sweet Judas, I do so miss those days! I think that's why I enjoy watching Sarah so much...she's always crawling around under a too-low car, just like I did 30+ years ago! Two main differences... she may look a little better than I did after scrubbing the grease off, and she works on a better class of car.
When are you not fun to watch? No time! I am so happy to see you smile in your triumph over problems. Sometimes you have to step back and reflect or even dive into divergence in order to get back into the build or fix. You are doing so well and watching you pleasure yourself makes me happy also! Shine gal shine! 😁💖
What a difference some rest and regrouping makes. Sarah is the #1 female youtube car girl for sure
Tj Hunt is #1 female youtube car girl for sure
" Try to be an adult" and " I'm extra creepy today". All the more reason to watch your channel versus any other. Your channel is the reality of the true diy'er. The 1 hour job they portray, is really a 3 day blood and guts ordeal.
Greg Payne You speak the truth. Her videos are real and hugely entertaining thanks to her authenticity and personalty. If she runs into a roadblock, she explains that she has and why.
Not wrong. And most of the time the joy (not) is in the parts hunting...
Not to mention she is 5foot 11inchs of bonafide US AIR FORCE and everytime one of her crewmembers(her cars) gives any grief she makes double time to get them back in order!!!!🛫🗽🚘🇺🇸
What a star! What a channel! Makes me smile, another extraordinary couple of videos from your good self. Brilliance can't help but shine.
Sarah rocks! This like a how to video! She loves what shes doing, and her editing skills are awesome.
It took a real Sasquatch to ninja that driveshaft in. Nicely done.
DOUBLE THUMBS UP FOR YOU! The "Star of David" trick when you're under the car with the Drive Shaft !
Half a package of Fig Newtons was funny. Sarah, you rock!
Patience is a virtue! With my 20b swap on my Rx7, I probably pulled the engine 4 or 5 times to modify the subframe to get the engine to sit EXACTLY where I wanted.
Great going, Sarah! Looks like you really brought that TT back from the dead!
Congrats on installing the prop shaft and getting Haldex functional again. Knew you would. Lift seems to work well. Great update as always.
Congratulations Sarah! All the right tools make all the difference. Looking good!
Well done, Sarah for persevering with that car. It has cost you blood, sweat and tears but you are making real progress now.
Great work! I like that you stay at it until you get the results you want. Too many people quit when things get tough, but struggling through really makes you appreciate the results. I know you love when hard work pays off, it can be seen in your excitement! I'm glad you stuck with it and get it done!
Good job, Sarah! When my truck stopped working because the a/c compressor seized, it felt incredible when I got it to drive again after replacing almost all the components of the a/c system. I appreciate all the detailed explanations you give as many other channels gloss over or assume things are common knowledge.
If you are looking for video ideas, I'd love to see tips on how to remove and replace o-rings. It's the last thing I think I need to replace to get my a/c working and find refuge from the Tuscon summer heat!
Sarah,so happy you got the TT fixed. Now,tear everything out and drop an LS in it.
That moment of pure excitement and joy when you achieve something like that. It's amazing, and why I like doing things myself! It's great seeing someone from youtube have the same moments of exhilaration and excitement when successfully completing something that gave you so much pain! I'm thoroughly enjoying your show! Keep it up Sarah!
Well done Sarah!! Thank you for giving us the chance to get to know our cars!! Keep up the good work!
U do awesome work. It's a joy watching u work n explain what you doin. U push thru the tough times n get it done
You get 5 extra ATTA GIRLs for all that effort! Congratulations.
Just stumbled on this channel, love it, true view of frustration, busted knuckles and profanity..... great channel!!!
I found your channel yesterday and have since binge-watched videos like crazy! Hilarious and awesome! Thanks for being awesome!
While they are funny, it's not the best part for me. She's authentic and knows a lot about cars, admits when she doesn't know something and learns it. I think Sarah's an amazing example of knowledge and wit on youtube. I've learned plenty already and I've been wrenching for years, plus I actually laugh at her jokes, unlike a lot of other channels I watch!
@That Onedude that's why I'm here lol
You make a good point about the fig newtons. Also, I was very happy for You when the driveshafts cleared each other. That part can be such a pain!
I just watched a few of your videos and subscribed, you are very skilled and I love your humor. It does not hurt that you are easy on the eyes as well!
I found your channel a couple of days ago. Watching most of your videos since then. Your awesome at what you do and they way u make your vids... So much fun to watch!! Greeting from NL
So happy for you Sarah!!! You definitely poured blood, sweat, and tears into Mr. Teeter Tot. Literally. The feeling of victory when a machine is fixed is soooooo satisfying.
The smile during the test drive says it all. Bravo! Great progress. Can't wait to see what you will do to it for upgrades. Congrats.
Time, effort, hard work, and patience = results!!!
Great job Sarah!!! 😉👍🔥
Sarah I was so happy for you to have successfully gotten your AWD fixed. Great accomplishment!!
Congrats Sarah on getting everything back together. I'm glad you got the jack too, I am sure the extra clearance helps a great deal.
Stay true to yourself. I love your innuendos, your quirks, creepiness, and glasses.... that makes you who you are and makes you cute and beautiful. Keep the awesome contents coming. I have an 1991 MR2 with a V6 swap
So very very very happy to see Teeter Tot running so well!
I'm glad to see those jack stands under the quick-jack (just in case!!!) Good for you! You also described many aspects of your install with some technical data. Well done Sarah. Also, as I work alone many times as well, consider a 4 ton porta-power set from Harbor Freight: this is like a floor jack, but in cylinder form. You can get very creative with it, but as far as working alone it can also be used as a extra pair of hands...... you can push (carefully) with it, you can hold things with it, you can use it as a safety jack. You name it. When you need one they really come in handy! You may not use it very often, so that is why I rec'd the HF model. Your getting to be quite the "wrench" !
Stefan Czechorski Nice call on the extra tool. It’s different but she was a fully qualified mechanic on aircraft for the US Air Force prior to starting this channel. So yes...quite the wrench.
You had me LOL with the fig newtons crack. For those of us that watch SMA it would be 1 to 1.5 ugga duggas. Boy that extra space makes a difference when you are are on your back under the car. From what I here from other folks that fix cars everything about an Audi is a PITA.
Nah, Audi is the same as any other. I just finished all my mods on my S3 taking just a couple partial days for about 20 mods and did't have any kind of lift. I'll admit getting the downpipe out wasn't fun. Less than 10 min to get the car up and the downpipe all unbolted and ready to pull, and another hour or pushing pulling and cursing to get it out. Out of the 40 or so cars I've had, the only ones I really hated working on were my CRX SI, Accord and v6 4Runner - Everything is packaged in the engine bay so dang tight.
Great work...the cv joint assembly was super informative. Thanks.
Hi Sarah
I’ve only just come across you on RUclips , just wanted to say it’s a joy to watch you working on your TT , I own a 2001 TT convertible and a 2004 b6 avant S line , all the best Phil from the uk 🇬🇧
Outstanding! Good to see you happy with accomplishment.
Great video, one of my favorites. Sarah wrenching under the car and winning with great camera angles.
way to go! congrats on that achievement, i started following your stuff 2 weeks ago and love it!, regards from Mexico amiga!
Very impressive Ms. Sarah. Truly a milestone. Now the fun begins.
Great to see everything is going well for Sarah with the cars. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work, your s champion
Nice job on the driveshaft. Replacing mine to a carbon one on my GT350 was tough. The stock one was so tightly mated to the transmission, I almost gave up. Stuck with it and finally popped it off. I share your enthusiasm for conquering that.
Nice work, Sarah. We all knew you could do it. Now the fun part of having this car begins. I also noticed that you have a ton more room under the car. You'll love having that Quick Jack. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic work! You do great work with the tools and equipment you have. Kudos to you on your patience on working on a used German car as well! Let’s get her to 100k subscribers!!
Good Job Sarah nice to see the Tt on the road and working right .You must be exited go girl !!
I love how excited you get when something goes right. And you weren't kidding about all the innuendos; not that I'm complaining lol.
Most impressive!! Some time ago I watched a reality show where a guy was trying to rebuild a CV joint. He was ready for a straight jacket by the time he was done. The TT will be a hoot to drive when you are done with it.
I had the same one for a few years when i was 21, loved driving it, took it from new york to florida more than a few times and neved had a problem.other than window stuck.
Great job! Way to go! Those quick jacks look to be an awesome tool to have!
DUDE - awesome job! That was a big job alone! Nicely done!
Great job on the TT. Videos always enjoyable to watch. Wish the channel well.
Woo hoo! Great job, Sarah! It feels great when the all the hard work pays off!
Great job Sarah. Sarah. You can lift the car and start the TT and put it into First gear. You will see all four wheels rotating. Your AWD is working.
Keep an eye out for the Haldex pump. With age the will simply go. And also keep an eye on the plug connection for the Haldex Control module. That will corrode. (You live in AZ you should be fine) change the Haldex fluid and filter.
So happy for you Sarah, you make me smile
Congrats on the project and got to love the figs they're awesome!
Happy Sarah is a treat to watch! Another great video 👌
Kudos Sarah! Teeter Tot's a hot potato..
all the more satisfying for you after that rough patch a couple of videos back
Glad you got it all back together. My viewing experience was enhanced by drinking coffee out of my new "Wake Up and Give It The Beans" mug from Teespring. :-)
Handle the shaft, squeeze the grease and maneuver the balls. Sarah, you never disappoint. 😅
Awesome job getting the Quattro working! Lovin' your videos.
Impressive, well done. You're really doing very well with what I consider one of the most difficult brands to even keep running, let alone major repairs being done.
Sarah, you rock!
I was so damned pleased with myself for mowing my lawn today. Then I watched you manage to get that driveshaft up to snuff and with no little effort, install it. Well done! Maybe I'll go edge the grass along the sidewalk...
Yay! Your determination paid off! Now the fun upgrades can begin 😃!
Nice to see you fixed it! :) Definitely worthwhile to have it working.
As some useful info, the way the generation of Haldex (1st Gen) works in the 8N TT, the car will run in nearly 100% FWD mode until there is as little as 1/8th of a wheel revolution of slippage on the front end. (Varies depending on source--some say 1/4, some say 1/16th.) At that point the rear will start to engage. Depending on the severity of the wheelspin on the front end, the Haldex theoretically can distribute up to 100% of the torque to the rear end. Note that only up to 50% of the *drive* can ever go to the rear (rear can never rotationally overdrive the front). The "100% torque" figure comes from the fact that if neither front wheel has any traction, they will merely be spinning and therefore not actually applying any torque (meaning all the available torque will be applied at the rear).
While the 1st Gen Haldex is quite basic and almost strictly reactive (relative to later gens which are more proactive and quicker to react), you can still get an aftermarket* controller for it, which will make the rear end more aggressive and engage without requiring wheelspin. This can effectively make it drive the rear end at all times depending on the controller and/or mode (Haldex modes are usually Eco, Sport, Comp, and Race).
*These controllers are usually actually made by Haldex Traction themselves, but they are sold in the aftermaket by various tuners.
Awesome Sarah to see it moving forward sometimes you just need to walk away and as they say and regroup congrats. Take care always.
Short shorts and mechanics ....
Your fig newton jole had me smile i love your face of gratification when your work pays off
Reason why I subscribe keep reveiling themselves every show
And I havent mentioned editing skills but you have them too see I notice everything
Superb. I used to have the same TT as you, now I drive a MK2 TTS. 👌🏻👌🏻
Another great video, Sarah. 👍 Well done on fixing the transmission. 👍 👍
So cute 😱😍
Following this project for my Quattro
Yay! Yay,yay, yay!!! Soooooo happy for you. Persistence paid off! Great job!
Awesome work Sarah, so happy to see things going your way...……...but now I want fig newtons, can't wait to see the mods
You rock Sarah!! Great video, as usual.
Yay Teeter Tot ! Time for a joyful backroad run! (Recommend Colo-Wyo north to Flaming Gorge National Park thru N Colo. lovely switchbacks and so on) Luff!
Thoroughly enjoy watching you tighten nuts!
Loved the video your so awesome I love the fact that you don't give up on trying to fix what your working on
How refreshing a woman working on her car ....well done !!! Love the channel top work subscribed .your awesome Sarah funny and so entertaining thank you 😉👌👌
The BEST car woman on RUclips...no competition.
Color me impressed! After your first attempt at the drive shaft I thought "That poor thing is going to have to take that to a shop for repairs" You are not a "poor thing" kudos!
Good job Sarah 👍 knew you'd crack it!!
G'day, Sarah! Awesome! Bravo! A nice pat on the back, for your good work. Rebuilding a driveshaft constant velocity joint! Btw, yes! It's about, a half of a fig newton!! That was pretty humorous! Thank you! Nice job! Cheers! 😊🤗✌🏼💕
P.S. “Never take a nail to a bar. They tend to get hammered.” 🤣
That's awesome! I was worried after you showed how messed up the rear side of the original drive shaft was that the rear diff would be stripped out. Looking forward to seeing the upgrades roll in on Teeter Tot!
Awesome progress on Teeter Tot, can't wait for the mods to begin.👍
Hi Sara, I got an old Audi too, but the good news is mine is FF, so I don't have to worry about this drive shaft! :)
Great video again. Thank you from Houston, Tx.
Phrasing to the extreme! Great video Sarah!
Great video, you made it look easy keep up the good work.
Excellent work Sarah keep it up..👍
SO I was packing the grease last night......lol you can see that its hard for her to keep a straight face through this.!!! Im glad i found her channel
Congrats on having a quattro (again). Your perseverance paid off. :D
Way to go. Great job. Just love your sense of humor
Damn you put some work into this car! Congrats on getting it running properly. That lift seems to have helped a lot.
Congratulations Sarah, you won!
VUT (very useful tip): try not to hammer on transmission components at any time. Use press-fit tools whenever possible or use heavy rubber interface layer and (best)/or a rubber head hammer.
Hitting with direct metal to metal contact is likely to create material stress and micro fractures especially since hammering tools might be made of a harder metal alloy than the impacting surface (cv joint). I had one VW gearbox disintegrate because despite the correct technique it was reassembled with a little "ease". With age and time, heat cycles and so on the damage that was already present after reassembly manifested itself in the loss of 5th gear.
Don't worry too much now, it'll probably be fine anyway. I wish you complete success and happy miles. Love your dedication. Cheers from Italy.
Good to see you make the TT a Quattro again!
I'm loving this project of yours, I currently have a project C5 A6 with a 4.2 that's getting all sorts of rehab. Believe it or not, I got it in worse shape than your TT! I felt really bad for it, so I brought it home (despite my other 2 cars being AMGs lol). Now, it's currently getting all sorts of goodies.
Good job! Your Awesome Sara!
Great video. Great music. Amazing editing.
My daughter has a TT and your videos are going to help me out
I love Fig Newtons and I love what you do.
