That's not wooden casing on the bolter. That's a slab of bacon for after-battle snacking. The heat from the firing bolter cooks the bacon as the battle rages. The smell of cooking bacon encourages them to end the fight as quickly as possible in order to sup. Meanwhile, the sound of sizzling meat strikes fear in the hearts of their enemies. This is canon
The funny thing is, I've actually seen gun nuts on YT cook bacon by wrapping it around the barrel of a machine gun and shooting it until the heat of the barrel cooked the bacon. The whole thing was kind of funny until I remembered I was still watching gun nuts.
Back in the day, when Chaos teamed up to get rid of the Emperor and his like! Then they could have fun eradicating each other until only one (Nurgle) remained.
Plag-yew-ee Marines! "A Tapas of Traitors" 😄😄😄 The foam and cocktail stick plants are coming on a treat. The base-murkins are a nice touch. The musical accompaniment on the outro song is great.
Those old metal Chaos models are superb, and I'm only getting more envious the larger your old-school Chaos army grows. This was also a fantastic paintjob. Love it!
I believe one reason the Plague Marines could have the wood addons to bolters and such is the inspiration from trench warfare and WWI. Brilliant video as always and the song is a treat of goofy 2nd edition proportions!
I would be 100% lying if I said I didn't like your songs.. I catch myself humming/singing them around the house,, which has my kids and the dog very concerned : )
Literally had all of these models in my very first Army, this was pure nostalgia to my brain. The metal sculpts especially have SO much personality, for their relatively basic posing. You did them such fantastic justice!
Modern Plague Marines are brilliant. But I like these. And the pre-"Everything's A Subfaction" days where they could be part of a chaos undivided force, it's more fun. Especially since modern rules encourage squad sizes that don't please any Gods.
"It started with one!" Exactly that model started my way to Nurgle when I saw it in a Rule book. And I thought: "When I grow up, I wanna be like that!" and so I did!
Plasma Pistol Champion is one of my all time favorites. I gave him a powerfist to round it out. A few years back I stripped and repainted my 20 something 2 ed. metal plague marines. They got a small upgrade with the use of mk.3 arms and backpacks to make their armor look more retro and tie into the newer designs. They also got spiffed up with 32 mm bases. Surprisingly, I never got my hands on any of the plastic plague marines from that time. I thought they looked too mono pose for me.
Finally got some free time to watch this and I have to say it's always a treat to see all the retro models that you paint up! I may be a guard player but seeing the various other factions is always fun!
Love plague marines! They have always had that look of being walking death incarnate, menacingly encroaching towards you, always versatile either as a melee unit or a dedicated shooting unit, blesse the holy 7
oooh plaguies! Nice! All the chaos looked good back then. Next after my 1990 Tyranid warriors! This is another great vid thanks! The scenery looks great too!
Looks like I just found my new favourite channel, I started playing back in 88' but I was poor back then, being 10 😂, so the last few years, I have been gradually collecting and painting my dream 2nd edition armies, I went with expanding the 2nd edition boxed set, copying the box art, and expanded it to a pair of 2k point armies. . Almost finished them now, I just love the old sculpts.
🤣 Loved the song at the end! Think you pulled off the rhymes pretty well. 👍 Great thumbnail, using the box art style. Still have one of those boxes in the attic. Full of bits and old Citadel paints. Plague Marines were quite the passion of mine back in the day. Quite the regular, down the GW shop, looking for casts i didn't have yet. Considering buying some primaris and converting them up as Nurgle followers. Probably keep my old Plague Marines paint scheme of Goblin Green and Go Faster Red. If you couldn't guess, were my next army after Evil Sunz!😂 Really enjoy these videos. So many memories. 👍
God I remember all this. I remember the old stater set with the one pose space marines orks and grenchin with the cardboard cutout of a ork dreadnought. Games back then took all day.
I’m working on a plague marine army… well a squad at this stage. 1st one since getting into the hobby. It’s based on mk iii HH marines with sculpting for all the nurgly bits. Just got some of the same plague marines in a 2nd hand job lot and it’s amazing how much smaller they are. In the same lot I have some standard mk VII marines which I’ll use to convert in the same way. Funny how we’re working on the same thing !

Greetings! This Squad looks great! Mine are all Khornites. GW released a pack of the 4 original Jes Goodwin Chaos Marines, which my son picked up and painted. They are all depicted in the 2nd Ed rulebook (except the Khorne one) B
"Gasmask gives them a whiff of Nurgle's stink" is accurate, Mortarion's mask has the atmosphere of Barbarus, their homeworld. At least according to many remarks during the Horus Heresy novels.
Hey im actually painting some 2nd and 3rd edition plague marines myself, and I was curious what edition these are? Looks like 4th, but im fairly new to the older side of the hobby
When a heat gun was mentioned my concept of a meltagun changed forever... Now when I think of one I hear the hair dryer sound of paint stripping goodness!
Great video Sir! I still have both plastic mono pose and metal Plague Marines in my Chaos Undivided Army 2nd - 8th edition Rules. The Army could be broken up into war bands or a Armageddon battle. Once again love the videos!
Awesome plague marines Matthew, and the space cactus in the background? This is obviously just coincidence but i have seen those Styrofoam balls a million times at my local stationery store that i get my hot glue sticks or pva or whatever from and every time I'm there i pick the baggie up and think maybe i should add those to my jungle themed table project that i keep buying materials for and never finish....and you having one slowly coming together in the background (i think I'm starting to notice you like to hide upcoming terrain projects in painting videos lol because i asked you about the terrain for your badass chaos terminators recently and sure enough you did post a video after about making that terrain, thank you for that it goes without saying) has been the subliminal messaging needed for me to man up and begin making this classic piece of terrain already like god intended damnit! Keep up the quality work! P.s. kudos on another great song too!
Thanks for the comment ☺️ the cactus was meant to be a bit of a fun meme, but I don't plan on making a video about it I'm afraid. I find terrain videos take more time to make and perform worse.
2nd edition chaos codex have the best conversion guide for chaos models. Ita a shame the Iron Warrior got retconned to bland mfs the barbarians they were in this codex were pretty cool, iron and fur was a great scheme for beginners to pick. Also your terrain efforts really paid off the video looked amazing with ruins.
I'm a little plague-man, short and stout. Here is my bolter, here is my gout. When the plague spewer comes on out. I laugh and sing, as my foes turn inside out
4:25 I think nurgle is the god of numerology which i think explains the secondary number. Some personal conjecture is that maybe all 4 gods second number would be whatever adds up to 10 so slaanesh would be 6 and 4 for example.
An interesting thing from the studio Chaos models of this era was how a bunch of them have Gorkamorka Ork guns. Check out the Alpha Legion and Night Lord squads in the book.

Love the gradual build of a toothpick cacti 🌵 In the background!
I see you couldn't resist the spiker cacti. Spikers are the scariest thing from the rogue trader rule book.
Honestly my favorite channel. Love the old hammer content! My youth brought back! Never stop. Gonna do some vehicles?
Thank you. I will do some vehicles eventually.
Yay Plague Marines! They are my favorite models in all of 40K. I love how the design has evolved over time.
Perfect timing, just cooked my food and can now sit down and enjoy this

Great squad (and space cactus!) - those monopose plastics really came up a treat, you'd hardly know the squad wasn't all metal.
"Flatulence of Papa Nurgle" is a top-tier phrase :)
I love the monopose Plague Marines! Their faces make me think of classic Silurians from Doctor Who
Yes!
Using dripping water as the backing track for the Plague Marine song was neat.
It's not water 😉😜
My spouse and I are using this song and land raider to help lull our 1 week old to sleep during the day.
