    Chaos have that awkward sweet spot of 50% trim and 50% panels. Great vid going through the different approaches. If you ever get the chance to try metallic Sharpies please do. It's what got me through a Heldrake with a shred of sanity left 😅

    Neat trick, thinning the contrast as a guide for the unthinned paint. Very good vids, these, for people to actually get things on the table and worry about 'master painting' later.

    It's a good tutorial because it reminds us that there is no right or wrong way of painting, just matter of preference. I have tried all these methods and I am currently in favour of the last one because I really enjoy using Contrast paints. I have Slaves to Darkness army set in queue but it would look great on World Eaters too.

    The new Slaves to Darkness are superb fun models to paint :) ... been painting the army box and a vanguard patrol over the last few weeks and it has been a blast. I am mostly done with the army now. My method is very similar to the first techique shown here and very happy with the results :) ... For shields I used contrast over a metallic drybrushed undercoat which looks awesome as well!

    Great vid. I think the bottom line is all figures, in GW color schemes, take a LONG TIME to paint, no matter what. It's a question of less long or more long :D But every color scheme, particularly with Chaos, is starkly contrasting to catch the eye. Black v gold, Red v brass, etc. I mean, even space marines, White v red, Yellov red, Blue v white and so on and on. These are great techniques, but I think (excepting things like for Nurgle and Iron Warriors :) ) a painter is just stuck, or picks a monochromatic scheme and says Chaos don't care about shiny trim, why would they?!

    That idea of thinning the black legion to do the edges is genius. Hope I remember that one. I'm curious about you thinning with water not medium? I haven't used a lot of contrast but I remember when they were first released painters saying they don't work well with water?

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  Год назад +1

      Never had n issue with water, but it does depend on how much you thin it, if you need to thin it a lot, then defo use medium. But for 50:50 ratios or around that are fine

    The trim is the worst part of playing CSM haha. My preference currently is to prime black, drybrush with the metallic, and then "fill in" the flat parts with paint or contrast/speedpaint or sometimes a mix of the two. The drybrush over black keeps the trim looking worn and aged.

    • @hannupajula1422
      @hannupajula1422 Год назад +2

      My rule of thumb is to use water to thin the paint or medium to thin the colour. Since Black Legion is not used here for "contrast effect", thinning with water is fine.

    I always primed black because a rattle can of krylon black is like 7 dollars and a rattle can of gold is about 15. No thanks. GW golds are over 30 bucks, insanity. Over the course of priming a whole army you could buy another kit instead of buying gw gold spray.

    Another tip is to just not paint all the trim. You won't notice it in a squad if not every single bit if trim is done. Just get the key bits like pauldrons and helmet then be selective. Not painting stuff is the fastest way to paint lolz.
