Hi Jamel. Please take a look at Talk Talk.. a band from England in the 80s. Talk Talk my Foolish Friend video is so thoughtful and the voice of mark Hollis very special.
Hey JAMEL! Check out Billy Joel's song, "You're only Human"!! Makes a lot more sense than this man's LAME EXCUSE! LOL 🤣. Thanks for your reaction though. Now THAT made sense! LOL 😆
I've heard this song many times - was around when it came out - but never listened to the lyrics carefully 'til you stopped it, talked about it, and made me crack up. Thanks Jamel!
That's the way it is with me too on many of his vids. I always focused on the tune first. The message was secondary so I missed the meaning in many of them. Sad Eyes, for example by Robert John. Great tune. The message is telling a woman he's cheating with to wipe her eyes and split because his wife is coming back home.
Ikr! Fill the space of emptiness?? I was on a three day business trip? Tf you mean?? Filling your secretaries space is more like it! FOH!😂 I got issues!😂
God bless Jamal for having a strong sense of decency and good character! Cheating is cheating is cheating. Don't have a relationship if you can't be faithful to that one person .....
The Human League were one of the pioneers of electronic pop in the UK and were initially totally synthetic. Original keyboardist/writer Martyn Ware passed up the chance of buying a car to purchase his first polyphonic synthesizer, for instance. But they always wanted to be a pop group first and foremost (one of their seminal influences being Donna Summer's iconic disco hit, 'I Feel Love').
I'm a musician. Been playing for 24 years. I always hear the music, never the lyrics. This has ALWAYS been my fave 80s song. And I only found out what it was about like, 3 years ago! Lol
That's what I was thinking when she said we were apart.were they on a break to think about how their relationship was going and what to do next or did they split up?😁
Josh Smith ... It's a story about a couple being apart for whatever reason, whether it's a break up or separated because life happens. While they were apart loneliness happened and they both made mistakes, like humans do.
"Love Action (I Believe In Love)", "Mirror Man", "The Things Dreams Are Made Of", "Darkness", "Empire State Human", "Being Boiled" and "Seconds" are just some of the New Wave greatness that The Human League had in their early years. They are definitely a band worth investing some time in, beyond the songs that were at the top of the charts.
I’m 70 years old and grew up listening to these songs and going to many awesome concerts. It’s awesome watching you listening to these songs for the first time. It brings back the feelings for the songs for myself! Thank you for what your doing!
'The Sound of the Crowd' and 'The Lebanon' are great ones from them. The singer Phil Oakey also did 'Together in Electric Dreams' with Giorgio Morodor (Heart of Glass, I Feel Love, etc)
Hey Jamel. I had to laugh while watching you experience this song, getting tight with what the dude was saying, all the while thinking "Wait for it, Jamel." And then she dropped the lines! LOL This is a great song and it got serious radio airplay back in mid/late 80's. And it's still such a great song to deserve serious airplay now. ☮ out! ✌🏼
Jamal and company, here are 3 more great '80's songs: 1) Howard Jones - What Is Love 2) Nik Kershaw - Wouldn't It Be Good 3) Nick Lowe - Cruel To Be Kind. Enjoy!
One of favorite songs from Human League. The song was written by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Back in the day when the song came out you would hear this song playing even in the hood.
Check out "Sarah" from Starship and "fortress around your heart" by Sting. Not necessarily similar in content but both good 80s songs. Keep up the fun vids mang.
if you do sara you have to do it like i did as a kid and listen to we built this city and rewind the cassette at minimum 20 times before getting to sara.
"To err is human, to forgive divine" Alexander Pope or as you would say, Different Strokes for different folks. An aunt by marriage had an affair & when she got pregnant was abandoned by her lover. My uncle took her back & raised the child as his own.
when i first heard this in 1986 i went hold on what is this? By the 3rd hearing i said this is the best thing they have ever done. I was into Human league from the start 'being boiled ' etc- loved them all 'Love Action' but this is my favourite song and it still sounds great today.
I lived in Sheffield when they were getting famous ,along with heaven 17 and ABC and you would see them in the clubs My claim to fame was doing a women’s self defence course with Susan and Joanne ( the two female singers ) very Yorkshire , very funny , was great ! I’m not sure if you look here ,but their track “ Louise” is lovely and shows Phil Oakeys bass voice off so well
I saw the Human League live when they were on tour for this album. I was so impressed that lead singer Phil Oakey's makeup was more on-point than the ladies. Fun show. And I remember that they just *killed* this song live. 👍🏼(Translation: killed = were great)
What's good for the gander is good for the goose. This is the one song of theirs that always moved me. Love those harmonies and falsetto singing, great melody and resigned admission of human frailty. Maybe mankind isn't made to be monogamist. I had actually confused this song with one by the same name by The Pretenders which was the theme song to a very short-lived TV show I loved back in 1998 called "Cupid". It starred Jeremy Piven in the title role and the lovely Paula Marshall as his therapist. He's convinced he's the actual Greek god kicked out of Olympus for his arrogance, banned until he matches 100 human couples without the use of his powers. It was funny and human, good lead actors but the song is one of The Pretenders' best. Please give it a hearing: ruclips.net/video/RkW-8jwfIFI/видео.html
More than one couple has experimented with other folks. So, while the lyrics may not be ideal, they are accurate for some. That being said, the melody and groove are fire!!
Human League's Human - as well as New Edition's Can You Stand The Rain Album - are among the first productions of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (who also produced 5 of Janet Jackson's best albums. Bobby Brown, and many others during that time). They were also members of the group The Time, a creation of Prince. Their influence, along with Prince's, illustrates how dominant the Minneapolis Sound was during the 80s and 90s.
To me. It sounds like they decided to take a break from each other. Then they decided to get back together. He confesses that he hooked up with someone and felt guilty for it. Asking for her forgiveness. To add the twist. She did the same.
I thought that sample sounded familiar too. Like NE or Ralph Tresvant had used it maybe. After further checking, I found that Boyz II Men, Bone Thugs and Rick Ross had used it also! 👍
Some more great fine songs from the synth 80s: A-ha - Hunting High And Low, Ultravox - Vienna, Alphaville - Forever Young, A-ha - Stay On These Roads, Ultravox - Lament, Spandau Ballet - Through The Barricades, A-ha - Manhattan Skyline, Ultravox - Hymn, Falco - Jeanny, A-ha - I've Been Losing You, Ultravox - Dancing With Tears In My Eyes, Cutting Crew - I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight, A-ha - The Blood That Moves The Body, Ultravox - We Came To Dance, Alphaville - Big In Japan, A-ha - Cry Wolf, Ultravox - Sleepwalk, Falco - Coming Home (Jeanny Part 2), A-ha - The Sun Always Shines On TV...
Yeah when I first heard this song, the chorus was stuck in my head. When I started learning the versus, I was like WTF? Lol … The song still brilliant!!
This song sounds like other Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis hits, all of which are sung and played in A flat Major. New Edition - Can you stand the rain Janet Jackson - Escapade, Come back to me, Love will never do without you, and Runaway
The thing about this song is he was married to his high school for about 2 years then he had an on and off fling with the dark haired girl in the group. They still remain friends to this day along with being in the group also.
Hahaha! I was waiting for your face when she started singing her own confession and you didn't disappoint! I agree with your assessment btw but I was just waiting. Don't ever change! ❤
The beat and production were by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis from Morris Day and the Time. They eventually wrote and produced for Alexander O'Neal, Cherelle, Janet Jackson and countless others.
Written + produced by Jimmy Jam + Terry Lewis. They started as bandmates of Morris Day. All 3 grew up with Prince. 🤯 Meanwhile, Human League was on the decline around 1984. They wrote fewer songs + relied upon outside writers as years passed. Human is 1 example. Philip sang well! 👨🎤 So did Joanne + Susan. 👩🎤👩🎤 Suggested next Jam/Lewis song: Love Is All That Matters. 🇺🇲🇬🇧
"I wouldn't ever try to hurt you I just needed someone to hold me To fill the void while you were gone To fill this space of emptiness" The point was, They broke up or she left him... He went for someone else, then he realized that he can't be without her. Same story with her. That's life, that's human. Something you youngsters won't understand
How quickly we forget, Jamel. If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.- Stephen Stills And by the way, why are you taking this song so personal? It was a top 30 hit in the mid 80s! I think we can all suspend disbelief for the 3 minutes for a cool tune once in a while... lol Keep up the great work. Love the reactions
Fun fact: The Human League were searching for a new member, a singer. An unknown guy applied for the job and they laughed him out of the studio. He answered them something like:"Well, if you don't want me, I'll do my own thing." His first album is called "Emergency on planet Earth" and his name is Jamiroquai. Today nobody knows about The Human League anymore, but Jay Kay is World famous. Don't judge a book by its cover!
In retrospect, you can tell that Phil Oakey really developed as a singer if comparing this to "Don't You Want Me". Please react to "Things That Dreams Are Made Of." Oakey has stated himself that the lyrics aren't particularly good on this song.
Have loved that song since I heard it for the first time! The British boyband Five has a cover of this song and my teenage self was in la la land when they released it back in the day. Good times...
"Did New Edition sample this?" Not quite. But they have very similar songs, all of which are produced by Minneapolis mega-producers, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Right after this song, they went on to begin their decades'-long collaboration with Janet Jackson - who also has similar songs, sonically.
The human league were produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis which were big time producers in the 80s and 90s and beyond. They produced Janet Jackson. If you listen you can hear the similarity to Janet Jackson song escapade.
OH SHIT!! I just realized that the instrumental sounds a LOT like The Force M.D.'s (r&b group) song Love is a house. That's crazy. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis wrote & produced both of these songs.
Human league came to do "Human" and 2 other songs with Jimmy Jam and Terry Louis in Minneapolis, Mn. This was a big Club in 1986. But Jimmy and Terry only worked with Bell Biv Devoe not all of New Edition.
This song reminds you of "Can You Stand the Rain" by New Edition because both songs were produced by the legendary production duo of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (who are actually more known for producing Janet Jackson's string of hits in the 1980s and 1990s). They did produce other artists aside from Janet Jackson eg: they also wrote and produced "Tender Love" which was a huge 1985 crossover hit for 1980s R&B boy band Force MDs. You should check that one out.
You're so right on the lyrical content & thank you for addressing it - I felt the same way too when analyzing the lyrics more closely as I got older, having falling in love with the song when it came out. Musically, it's absolutely gorgeous, which is what makes the song hard so hard to dismiss. Wouldn't it be nice if new lyrics (of fidelity) could be written for it?!

Waiting for Jamel’s reaction 😮 to when the girl says “ while we were apart… I was Human too”
And Jamel fallin’ back in his chair like “ whaaaat?!” 😂😂😂
Jam and Lewis added that rap.

Yeah, they were both unfaithful!
This was a classic Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis production. Yes New Edition's N.E. Heartbreak was produced by them. So the similarities are uncanny.
and a lot of Janet albums
Its funny How most pop songs in the 80s SOUND THE SAME
Reminds me of “ Can You Stand The Rain”.
Jam & Lewis we’re great producers. Rhythm Nation by Janet Jackson is their absolute pinnacle of quality.
@@manyelephants and the Janet album but I think rhythm nation spawned more top tens

Still one of my fav groups in the 80’s! I still play this music, and my kids listen to the 80’s now 👍💕
2 wrongs don't make a right , but 3 lefts do.
Exquisite, refined, sophisticated .. Times of glory .. !!
Man! I miss the 80s! 💙 The part he spoke under his breath early in the song was "Won't you please forgive me."
You're expression when she said she was human too. PRICELESS!!!
I did not know this song was written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. But now that I hear it again, that makes total sense.
Preach brother Jamel! I feel the same way.
Those three songs are even in the same key lol
You're so right on the lyrical content & thank you for addressing it - I felt the same way too when analyzing the lyrics more closely as I got older, having falling in love with the song when it came out. Musically, it's absolutely gorgeous, which is what makes the song hard so hard to dismiss. Wouldn't it be nice if new lyrics (of fidelity) could be written for it?!
I am REALLY ENJOYING your reactions to these lyrics ‼️😂👏👏
The songs catchy and has a good hook but you pay attention to the lyrics and you’re like damn they got a bad relationship.
LOL. Love it when she starts talking 🤣🤣😂😂!! One of the best reactions Jamal🤣🤣🤣😂😂when she said she was human too !! Priceless!! ❤️❤️❤️
Me at 16: This song is so beautiful and full of emotions😂
Me at 46: These fools toxic af! Run!😂
