- Scott Brady interviews the legendary Tom Sheppard, an icon of overlanding, and one of the most accomplished desert explorers in history. With overland projects and many solo, remote region, off-tracks Sahara expeditions to his name, Tom also led the eight-man, first coast-to-coast Sahara crossing and gravity survey, later recognized by a Royal Geographical Society award.. Tom is an exceptional practitioner of the craft, and authored numerous volumes on the subject, including the preeminent reference manual of overlanding, the Vehicle Dependent Expedition Guide.

I grew up listening to stories of my father crossing the Sahara on a BSA 650 motorbike in the early 70’s. Those stories inspired my life that I live now. Keep inspiring, Gents!
Wow. Just looked for his book and cheapest used one was $78. Must mean it is a great book. Thanks for great interview.
Worth every penny. . . and if you don't like it, I will buy it from you LOL
What an amazing interview!!
Tom is a true legend.
Amazing interview of a brilliant pioneer indeed!
I had the honour and good fortune of meeting Tom many years ago (circa 1997-8) when he visited Namibia.
At the time I was a young LR fanatic with a LR workshop maintaining a fleet of Land Rovers across the country on various remote tourist lodges.
Namibian hospitality industry at the time was a fledging affair and support of these vehicles was quite a task...
The meeting with Tom back then was memorable and I treasure the autographed copy of his book "The Land Rover Experience" to this day!
Salute!
PS. Visiting Namibia, he drove the exact blue Land Rover that's on the 'cover' of this podcast!
Tom is a legend. Thanks for the comment
Rarely do I feel privileged to just "listen" to an interview... but here I have that feeling. Great dialog Scott. Fun historical perspective with a touch of Tom's honest and almost at times tearful emotion when sharing a story. God bless Tom. I only hope I'm as "with it" like Tom should I make it to age 90. In the Journal, I especially loved following Tom in the Jeep Renegade across the desert and his pre-trip prep of his vehicle. I too am a fan of the Renegade Trailhawk. I've had several in my off-road courses. Thanks again for these podcasts Scott.
Tom is a inspiration to us all. Beyond grateful I was able to have the discussion
Could you please let me know how to find Tom Sheppard’s film on that crossing of the Sahara. You say you found it on RUclips?
Thanks in advance.
Incredible discussion between two icons of the global expedition community. Scott and Tom, thanks for sharing this incredible conversation. So much beauty, wisdom, and hard-earned knowledge shared. VDEG and 4x4 Driving are incredible, Quiet for a Tuesday is an amazing piece of work, and now I will have to grab the Nobility of Wilderness too.
What an amazing life Tom has experienced glad to see he is looking so well and still as sharp
I have many of his books and would highly recommend his photography books
He rides the BMW310 to the gym daily. Such an inspiration.
Truly amazing, what a gem! Thank you for this
It was such a joy to spend that time with him
Thanks for the amazing podcast Scott. Tom is indeed a legend.
Fantastic interview thanks Scott. Tom Sheppard the legend! Would love to know Tom’s thoughts on the Grenadier… 🤔
What an incredible story and what adventures. I would like to venture out to North Africa one of these days, using my Land Rover Defender (from 2010; it's a shame it already has a lot of electronics in the engine). A hug to everyone. It's a shame the world is in this chaos.
Picked “Quiet For A Tuesday” and greatly enjoyed, both words and photography, during the beginning of Covid. Amazing life he has lived and I hope to one day see the artwork of the Al Hoggar.
That is one of my favorite books from Tom. The title is perfect too
This one is a winner. Iconic overlander. His book "Quiet for a Tuesday" I have read umteenth times. Video appreciated !!
Any guidance to locate the YT video on Tom's expedition you mentioned in this video ?
