@@robbiefishing yes I totally understand. I had a large amount of my small intestine removed and now I have short gut syndrome so basically I am limited to what I eat ☹️ pretty much nothing high fibre and lots of carbs and protein. I loved my red meat 🥩 yep T-bone 🥩 only cooked on my small BBQ flam grilled with garlic steak seasoning with some salt 🧂 or eye fillet yummy 😋 but for some reason I just can’t eat it anymore don’t know why. It is hard on my stomach and intestine. So chicken or fish or prawns 🦐 and I would say I am not eating prawns 🦐 that’s bait lol 😂. Now I have IV NUTRITION 12 hours a night 7 days a week. Weight has been a problem all my life now I don’t care if I want it I have it to what my budget can allow me to do anyway. Sorry for the long story oops!!!

Good to see the catch and cook again. It wouldn't matter what type of net you used in that spot because you would have got them anyway. What I cannot see is somewhere to put your details on the net, maybe a small string to connect a float with your details and you would know where they were then. Nice feed of yabbies and the Garlic Butter was the perfect choice. Thumbs up Robbie 👍

Thanks so much mate. When I've needed credentials on the nets I've been using masking tape. I do need to rig up something better.

That actually is healthy, high fat and no carbs. Those short cut bacon peices are a good choice. Some people might argue that the butter isn't healthy but it's ok in moderation. Salt free butter would probably be better and just use a couple of teaspoons of crushed garlic from a jar. Looks bloody yummmmm ❤❤

Robbie, an earlier comment beat me to it, but that was absolutely healthy. If you had put the yabbies and bacon in a sandwich or roll, that would make it unhealthy, it’s the processed carbs that are the problem. As a type 2 diabetic I’ve been on a keto, (high fat, low carb) diet for 2 years
and I’ve lost 25 kg and do not take any diabetic medication at all and my kidney function improved immediately. I have mentioned to you before that you look like a prime candidate for type 2 and I often think to myself that’s where you’re headed. I’m only saying this because I worry about you
and it seemed like an apt time to mention it.

mmmm, garlic butter yabbies. The best way to eat them. Also Chilli Yabbies. Some chopped chillis or chilli flakes (fresh is best of course), a bit of olive oil, some fine diced garlic, ginger and onion. Coat the boiled tails, allow to sit for a while to marinade and toss in hot pan. Yummo.

@@robbiefishing Fair enough. My nan used to do a fish and yabbie hot pot. Basically a bunch of vegetables and herbs roughly chopped, then what ever fish frames and the meat cut into chunks, the yabbies added and the whole lot boiled for hours. It did not matter to her if we caught trout and Redfin or cod and Yellowbelly, she would chop them all up and add them if she was in the mood for a fishpot stew.

Hey Robbie I’m thinking maybe if you tie a red/white float to the top of these nets with some fishing line slack you can find & hook them when they are in deep..
I still have a few of these style nets I made years ago out of fencing wire & steel window fly screen mesh.
& yes they still work well, only mine were bigger..
I used those floats on mine & never lost one in deeper water 👍

@ I really did love that video. From the first time I saw your Crawfish nets I thought they would be great. Josh at ‘Team Tibett’ posted a Yabby video today using lines. That’s where I think your new nets would be great. Instead of usually one, and sometimes two Yabbies on a line, your nets will catch multiples all the time. The only down-side would be you spend less time in nature catching enough Yabbies for a feed. 🤣😂

I didn’t say you were tying to stop me, I’m saying there is nothing wrong with it with regard to health. As a type 2 diabetic I started keto 2 years ago and have completely stopped all diabetic meds and have shown improvement in all areas of human health. Even though I doubled my fat intake on keto, (high fat low carb) butter too, my cholesterol level went down! This, much to the amazement of my doctors. Modern medicine is waking up slowly that the real enemy is processed carbs.

ya need something to soak up all the juices like rice and another benefit is it turns 1 meal into 2 meals, also those traps need something simple like a small flag on top so you don't lose them.
anyway was a good catch, i'm wondering the location you're at you could just jump in with a set of waders and a landing net and catch 10 times more in 5 mins, no bait needed.

I have just been watching a YT clip from the 'Elusive Catch' channel, filmed in North QLD, where the couple used boiled potatoes as Yabby bait. They caught a lot of them, absolute stonkers, Slightly different species with red claws. Just wondering if boiled potatoes will work on our blue claw variety?

    • @robbiefishing
      @robbiefishing  2 месяца назад +1

Thanks mate. I've never used boiled potatoes, but I have used rockmelon. Rockmelon works really well for redclaw, but it didn't work for these yabbies. I'm going to guess that boiled potatoes wouldn't work very well on this species.
