I just received mine two days ago, and I have the previous 12tb drive as well. I thought I'd share some thoughts that might answer some questions: 1. Overall, yes, this is miles above the previous 12tb drive, for some reasons that I'll mention in a sec. I do get someone's comment that it's a bit of a headache dipping and diving around all the setups to find what you want, but compared to the general "wow" of it, it's a small frustration. 2. And this is the main reason I gambled and got this: the possibility that it would work better. On the last 12tb drive, not only would a lot of games give error messages or not run, my biggest complaint was that Xbox 360 games, every single one, had a weird stutter to them. They'd go for a sec, slow to a crawl for a sec, go for a sec, etc. There were tons of great games that were just unplayable. After trying every remedy that the internet and RUclips had to offer, I just chalked it up to my not having a good enough graphics card (AMD Ryzen 7735) for 360 games. BUT, my friends, I'm here to tell you that Xbox 360 (the games I've tried so far, anyway) runs like butter on this bad boy. It's fantastic. Same (for the most part) for PS3, which, on the previous build, would either not run, give weird visuals because of "compiling shaders" issues, or would not give me any visuals at all, just sound. Couldn't be happier with this improvement. 3. This is the second reason I got this one: more games in several key collections on this build. Many more, in some cases. Previous Nintendo Switch count: 62. New count: 203! Previous PS3 count: 23. New count: 172! 4. The build just runs better overall than the last one. I'm not a huge tech-head when it comes to these, but I'm wondering if the organization, with the different front ends and section choices (like giving Teknoparrot it's own section, for instance), helps the stability. Also, one of the big problems with just having Hyperspin on the previous drive was that not everything runs smoothly or has adjustments to emulators and controls that work on Hyperspin. On this build, I've seen several cases where a game wouldn't work from one frontend, but would work perfectly from another. If you only have one frontend to work with, you might be stuck with a game that just won't play. So far, I've had very few games that just won't run. A FEW have glitches or freezes that have made them unplayable, but there are very few games so far (the new TMNT game, Shredders Revenge, is unfortunately one of these) that just won't run or gives an error message like the last drive. But, it's early in my time with it. It's Friday, and I'll give the system a more thorough look this weekend. 5. It looks like several games, mostly PC games, that were on the last one got omitted, I guess to make room for more late-generation games for PS3 and such. As Drew says in the video, Playnite has 45 games, but the selection won't really blow you away. On the last build, there were some really great AAA PC game options (I got obsessed with a Cobra Kai game), so that's a shame. Ditto if you are looking for a bunch of MS-DOS games. They're not trying to pass off a bunch of PC games as PS4 games this time, thank goodness, but it sucks that these games aren't even here at all. I think that covers my main impressions. I'm thrilled with this new one so far. I might do an update here after this weekend.

As far as roms, you can download and install them, but there are a few things you have to do to get it to show up on your frontends. Again, I’ll have to defer to someone who’s more experienced with that.
On their previous 12TB Hyperspin Attraction HDD, they propose that for some systems (Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64...). It has pros and cons, as you could now look for a title in different collections to find it, if the romsets are not complete.

I still want one where I can just plug it into my TV. I don't want to play it on my computer so I would probably have to plug in my computer to my TV and then plug this into my computer. I'm not a noob but some of this stuff is confusing. I just want it to be like a raspberry pie which just plugs into my TV HDMI. I know the games run on graphics cards but maybe one day we'll see a standalone. I've seen a few but not like this
I would consider this, but some time back I bought the 4TB version and most of the games on Launch box were not playable, whenever I played games on the SEGA STV the games would freeze and then I would end up having to re-start the whole thing over again. Then the audio on the MAME just stop working and I could never get it to work again. Too many headaches.
@@Theshark15z that might’ve been your issue. Some want you to change the drive letter for certain things to work properly. I bought a launchbox drive from one of those sellers and the instructions were to change the drive letter to L. I ended up copying it to a new drive using Retrobat as the front end.
I just received mines. I think I got the wrong one. I got the hyperspin only backend version. I didn't receive the 5 in 1 version. 😢 Im missing a few of these systems and games.
@@wesleygriffin9071 yeah I managed to find the ps2 collection on internet archives. I did however delete a few duplicates and versions. I was left with just over 3tb. So I’m not sure why it would be so large like 25tb.

Hi Drew, I hope you can help me. I just got the kinhank 12 tb 5in1 harddrive yesterday and tried to play with my wireless 8bitdo controller. I thought that Kinhank had pre set the controls for a wireless controller and that it was gonna be plug and play but apparently not. 😕 1/ If you are using a wireless controller like 8bitdo in Retrobat do you have to set the controls up for the first time? (map the buttons) Because when I went in the controls menu of Retrobat everything was set in ‘standard’. It did mentioned that I was using a wireless controller and that I needed to map all of the buttons. So I did ... multiple times … Would it be different if I would use an Xbox controller? Is the harddrive pre set up for the Xbox controller? Or do you also have to map this controller for the first time in Retrobat - controls menu? 2/ The mapping of the buttons on a controller only have to be done in the menu controls of Retrobat? It’s not that you also have to map it in for example Dolphin emulator? In your video you say that you have set up the Wii controls dependent on the type of Wii game you wanna play. How do I know what controls i’m gonna need? I tried to play Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii in Retrobat with my 8bitdo controller. Of the chinese made ones it seems that Kinhank is a good one - There are better drives made by americans and canadians but they will cost you significantly more.
12TB is way out of my price range and most of the newer system games are not going to run on my ancient 4GB HP laptop but I did get a 500GB SSD for just shy of $20 CAD and I think it's great, has almost everything up to PSX and N64, also had some DREAMCAST games and GAMECUBE but they don't run well on my crapper of a laptop. But for just under $25 CAD how can you go wrong?

if you want to play everything You're looking at like a 8 or $900 equivalent PC but if you just want to play like 90% of the games you can get away with like an i5 and a dedicated graphics

Each video on this channel gives you the gamelist for the drive tested, in the description. If you compare those spreadsheets with what your drive shows (titles, or number of games for said console) you should find out. There are several videos for 12TB Kinhank drives, but not so many 🙂
By the way, it's strangely low for a 12 TB to only propose 69 psx games or even 117 PS2 titles (the one I have proposes 1804 psx + 633 PS2 games). Do you have many PS3, switch, xbox360 or PC titles to occupy these 12TB?

12tbs every game? the ps2 rom set alone is 25tbs without any media. the media is close to 2tbs itself.

i think 25tbs is jap , US and Euro Set. When you use only US Set i think IT IS unser 8tbs.

This is NOT for beginners. This drive is definitely for medium to advanced users. Newbs will find this VERY frustrating
I've found all the frontends are too cumbersome. There's no way you can enter the name to look for a particular game like that of the Pandora Box.
Of the large game drives you have tested, do you have a favorite? What do you do with the older versions when you get the next generation of them?

i had so many issues with xbox 360 running like crap on my ryzen 5 cpu, i think many of these emulators dont like amd cpu chips

@@chrisblack9811 The previous 12TB Drive from Kinhank didn't have a single Vita game, sad thing. At least they began to offer some titles. But vita3k doesn't have a great compatibility list yet either...
