What did you think about this 12TB hard drive? Are these quality, or are there better large capacity options?
Did you run virus scan? Any hidden surprises on it?
I can’t believe their audacity in selling that, as it’s not like a mini pc, or a handheld, or anything that’s unique they actually make. That’s just pure piracy, and the fact that Amazon is allowing it. ..but I’d still like that build, as I can use it to breakup on handhelds, but wow, lawsuits coming here, they are just daring them to with this, thanks for sharing
My issue with these drives is that people get them and don't have a clue about HyperSpin and then want to add stuff and change stuff and then end up asking on the forums for help when they have ZERO clue.

All the hours I've spent "acquiring" the huge ROMs for recent systems, only to be out of space an not getting nearly all I wanted, this is pretty good, all configured and everything
6000 games legally backed up and organized by yourself, hours of work and testing......

12:04 The specific Ugreen HD enclosure and the Seagate HDD they used totals to about $175 for both. So effectively you're paying around $100-120 for the work of having all these games collected and downloaded for you without having to do any downloading/ripping yourself. And yeah, having bought one, solid conclusion. If you want a mostly complete retro games collection and frontend with little hassle, this is a good pickup, even if only for the gigantic ROM set. But obviously if you're more interested in having a curated library, then do your own thing.
I own this exact drive and consider myself an expert on emulation that could actually build this if I wanted and have in the past. This is absolutely the best drive you can get for the price hands down. Mostly everything works and yes even the pinball stuff. The sheer amount of media files on this drive is insane. It does need some additional love and modifications are needed to make it flawless but out the box it worth every penny !!! 😊
How much pinball does it have? I was looking for fp and vp , pba, and latest fx3 or fx stuff.
I purchased one from the depths of china last week, so Im still waiting to get it. Excited though.

@@Peter-st2fv I have one on the way as well but I am thinking about buying one from arcade systems since he actually updates and supports you if you have any issues they have bigger sizes also like 48tb that way I can get the full ps3 and 360 library which is what I am after really the 12tb is not big enough for that

Mine had over 230GB of free space so adding more games is an option which I chose to do. Just keep in mine it's a real process for each addition.
I own an older version. It was less configured than yours from what I understand. I use it to make my own collections. I prefer retrobat so sooner or later i will redo my drive in retrobat. And ive since archived a bunch more material.
You should do a follow up. This drive has pinball, mame, lighthun games, magazines, etc. Tons of content.
I've had this on my wish list for months. It's definitely one of the best retroboxes out there. My only question is, can you change the appearance on the main menu, such as if you want it to be separated by Categories like console, arcade, Mame, Favorites, etc instead of having that one long wheel. Is there a part in the settings that lets you change the way it looks
It's running Hyperspin, which has a ton of themes you can get and set up, but I haven't changed mine yet. I just turned off the obnoxious transition animations and a few other things in the menu (there's a controls section where you can see the buttons to bring the menus up). I've also tooled around in the text config files and you can show/hide certain collections, but as it's already preconfigured with a huge amount of ROMs it might be better for you to start with a fresh config.

What controller are you using?
Interesting with so much space of 12tb
I found my solution!!!! First off, I had my Windows desktop at 3840 x 2160 resolution. Before you go into Hyperspin, make sure you reduce your resolution to 1920x1080. ADDITIONALLY, find advanced settings for your display and MAKE SURE your ACTIVE SIGNAL MODE is ALSO 1920 x 1080, same thing as your Desktop mode. Also I have my refresh rate set to 60. It works. Audio skipping and distortion is GONE on ALL SYSTEMS and for the most part many of the games are now playable, with only joystick/joypad settings needing to be messed with. Hope this helps!
For me the most old games run totally slow ... if I press the space bar it switches to hyperfast ... I have a Ryzen 9 3900X with 64GB RAM and Geforce 3090-Ti ... should not have such a problem. All Drivers and the font which come with the harddrive are installled.
It seems this is an issue of the RetroArch emulator which is used for almost all consoles. (tried different cores and frame skipping settings ... did not change anything)
By manually loading the games with the emulator I found out that they run at normal speed in a smaller window. When I pull the window bigger in size the emulator can not hold the speed and slows down until I decrease the size again.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the case ?
So is this ready to play out of box ? Or do you have to set up the software ?
Basically Yes. It has a folder of redistributables/runtimes/etc to install on your pc, but you dont have to mess with the emulators unless a certain game isn't running right. Just to be on the safe side, you can use the folder of runtimes for reference and then source the actual installers from the manufacturer/OEM website. It only takes a few minutes and if you run steam games on the PC you probably have the majority already installed.

love it. but the only thing i HATE about it is the ini files you have to install for it to "work" what are they installing
amazon one says 100,000 games but the ali express one says 40,000.. will there be a difference in game count or are they the same??

You need to make sure you install all the runtimes indicated in the instructions. You should also try to open the emulator itself directly from the hard drive to see if there's a pop-up or something that's not showing when you try to load the rom directly from the frontend.

I got the ser7 mini pc. What would be the limit with this hard drive?
You might run into some minor issues with the higher-end "PS5" or PC stuff, but otherwise you should be fine with all of the actually emulated systems on here.

Its pretty easy to get entire rom sets these days. The pain if with scraping and renaming to get the right box art etc.

It's worth it for the MAME and hyperspin alone
This is the best 12tb hard you can get especially if you know what you are doing. Been playing around with this drive for weeks and i can say that 95 percent of everything works. You can update this drive to include updating emulators, adding games and much more. Let's be clear there are only deplictes dude to the collections which is important for a drive of this size with nearly 400 wheels. Just buy it...

Higher end stuff will struggle tremendously on that old of a system. You might also run into data transfer speed bottlenecks depending on what USB ports are on your machine.

Firing and jumping (action) controls don't work on many games, and there's lots of stuttering on the music and sound. Not sure if I did something wrong or what... I am using a brand new Xbox PC controller.
I had some issues at first before I realized that I wasn't using the USB 3.1 port. There's a lot of data being transferred, so you need to use the highest bandwidth port you've got on your machine.

Awesome !! Usually with retro hard drives which advertise over 100,000 games -- they are padded with loads of duplicates !!! Buyer Beware !!! Always read the reviews first !!!

Hard disks are cheaper. Especially when talking 12tb.
Scanned 20 percent of mine with webroot and so far 6 malware, be really really careful and do not connect to wireless or a computer you use for anything else !!

Virus scanners pick up a lot of the less than savory exe files for the PC games.
Emulation is the way to go.
There is a problem with this hard drive from Japanese games that should be in English to certain games not working. The oversaturated collections. And inability to change emulators through retroarch. The absolute biggest problem with this hard drive is most of the emulators are out of date and you best not try to update You will kill your hard drive. To the positive it is decently put together It is fairely plug and play. And let's be honest anyone who does emulation really this is great for just having the files You get so many files of so many roms. It's really do you trust stimulation or not May personally most of what I own period. You got some awesome Make sure you scan this hard drive before you look it into your network, personally I would not use a personal computer with any personal information to run this hardware Even if there is no malware.

I'm in the camp that if the company for the console has stopped supporting the system then it's become EOL and that makes it retro imo.

I didn't do any forensic-level scans, but I didn't get any legit anti-virus alerts with my generic freeware stuff. Windows defender didn't so much as peep either.

same here there are people already showing pictures of it on Amazon getting viruses we tried to install it and there are a lot of games that do not work at all
@@ultralamont the fake Amazon reviews that claim that were written in broken poor English and only one is "confirmed purchased".
Most Amazon reviews are fake, these sort of drives have been reviewed on other channels and none have turned up viruses.

I'm not happy with the Hdd I got, 12 tb space is focused mostly on the pirated PC games ( not good ), which you can get from Steam and like.
The rest is not a complete retro games selection. If there is Hdd that concentrates on Retro games only, then that's the Hdd to get. 🤔

At this point I'm just after the one retro gaming shortcut that will save me all the effort...but it'd have to be a one shot thing that groups up *all* the orphaned titles.
Oh ifI could buy a set up like what was shown, but just the retro stuff, instead of flashing up games I have on steam, all chewing up Gbs like a hundred games couldn't use that space...
Lemmings 2 the list tribes, that and all the relatively tiny pc games that came before it, I'd love to enjoy that side if retro gaming that's not just console stuff early pc stuff was janky and most of it us abandoned currently...
(I packed away my old games decades ago with planning making a retro set up... I know that I'm not gonna be dragging all that stuff down from the attic any time soon leave it up there as my license library along with my 2000ad collection and the neatly boxed pogs)

@@HelloSnake different countries handle it differently. But saying you paid for it is pretending it's legal, which is a terrible cope. The fact that this drive contains actual pirated media of games CURRENTLY on the market is already a red flag. Which means Zu is reviewing and promoting a device that's clear-cut piracy. At least the other handhelds have the decency of only including old games and being careful with specific Nintendo IPs.
If companies catch wind of a handheld reviewer advocating for this device, it might be a bad look for the emulation scene as a whole.
