No prob! A mini pc is very easy to setup, it's just like a laptop or whatever. Not as easy as an android based console, but still pretty easy. Especially with a drive like this that comes all setup. You're not gonna get PS2 and dreamcast if you're not on a PC. THe android consoles are great for the old stuff (genesis) and up to ps1/n64, but none of them can do ps2 or gamecube. For that a mini PC is the best low-cost choice. And I wouldn't mind, but I've been looking at softmodding an Xbox recently as well... Did I mention I love that system? Though, I would certainly ditch the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Edition, I refuse to buy that on principal, although, no doubt Pokémon is going to be on there, I should imagine Digimon as well as other Yu-Gi-Oh!... I've had two of these, and they both failed. The first one lasted about two weeks. It showed "unable to access, directory corrupted" or something like that. I emailed the company, and they said, "No trouble." We'll send you another; you can keep the first one. Great! The second one lasted about four months. Again, it showed "unable to access, directory corrupted." If you have one of these, make sure you shut down the computer or hit the "eject media" for the drive before unplugging. For me, I'm done with this drive.
@@jensbekaert166 Well, that may have happened on the first drive, but I was careful to properly disconnect the drive on the second drive. I've had some power outages, which may have caused the second drive to break, but it didn't affect the other drives I had plugged in. This is just a word of warning to let you know this can happen.
Dragon's Lair arcade is on his video at 6:36, yay. The linked list link doesn't work for me. I agree with you on the actively-sold-games shouldn't be on the HD. I buy all my emulated games from the licence holders as re-releases become available, plus I have a ton of original hardware and their games. I just HATE dealing with the rom setups and the front ends. I really wish Gauntlet II and Spy Hunter could be bought for current hardware (they did sell on old HW like PS1,PC). When they can be sold again, I will buy them. Looking for a spy hunter and gauntlet arcade machine. Please everyone, support the companies that sell re-releases.
Thanks for posting this and showing all of it. I've been looking for this, but little to steep in my opinion... Of course, I don't like that the current games are on it that's a deal breaker.
Maybe slightly faster loading time for the more recent console systems like Gamecube, PS2 etc and the PC games. The rest likely no difference. Game performance will definitely depend on what PC you connect it to.
This was the dream of every 80's kid, every game ever made at the click of a button! Makes me wonder if I live another 40 years (hey I'd only be a spry 87!) if they'll have 6 Petabyte drives (or holographic crystals or whatever the storage medium of choice is in 2063) and be advertising 1 million Games! Every game for every system up through the Playstation 10 and X-Box Series XVX .
THIS THING LOOKS AMAZING!!! Made up my mind as to what I'm going to buy. Never going to need another console again with this it has everything I could ever want to play and the best part is I don't have to buy any of them individually or have the console to play them!!
One complaint I've heard from someone on a previous video is that they couldn't start launchbox for some reason is this true and if so how would I fix that? Any help would be great!!
This is the first box, well usb drive, I am impressed with and tempted to buy. I have gathered a bunch of roms before, but I never set them up like this because it felt a bit tedious. For my pc, that I use as an arcade, I downloaded bundles of roms that were set up for CoinOps. It had a good arcadey selection. This one looks well done. I would probably keep playnite, delete the pirated pc games, and add some legal copies of easy to run games from GOG. The launchbox and emulationstation split is still weird. I am assuming it has to do with emulators and ease of use? Anyone can correct me if I am wrong. Emulation station is controller friendly, but it relies on emulators runnining in retoarch. Most of the emulators are good, but some are not. I see most people use the standalone versions of PSP, Saturn, and PS2. I have never used launchbox.
Honestly I think the only reason they are separated is out of laziness, they probably downloaded two separate ROM libraries that were pre-configured with these applications. There's no reason you couldn't just have both romsets featured under one single application..

Yeah a lot less dups. Check the game lists in the description if you want to know what's on here, I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to those old retro computer systems.
Thank you for convincing me to get this emulation drive. Im new to emulation and this thing is truely amazing. I can't get Sega Saturn to work wich is kind of a bummer, but other than that this thing works perfectly. I highly recommend it to anyone who's new to emulation unless Sega Saturn is really important to you.
Oh yeah? I wonder why it's not working for you. You can probably get it to work if you tinker, try starting up retroarch by itself, loading up a Saturn rom, and then when it asks you which core try several different options.
@@eduardopatricio The basic desktop version of LaunchBox is free. I use it with my setup with thousands of games. As far as i can tell the only thing that is paid is the BigBox mode and some customization options like themes and stuff. If you look at the LaunchBox segment in the video you can see it denotes "free version" in the upper right.
Separate frontends depending on the console being emulated is a non-starter. Why do that when both ES and LB can easily handle all the different systems?
People, just curate your own collections. You never know what craziness you're putting in your PC if they're willing to straight up put pirated modern PC games on it... 😂 Messing with emulation settings can be daunting, but it's a fun learning experience if you're into tech. I curate my own collections for my emulators by ripping my own games and other "archives" 😉 And I still find time to do that working two jobs. And best part it's free and won't give your PC a Trojan. 😂

I already have a near perfect retro rom collection from 3do, Jaguar, TurboGrafx, Cave, CP, Konami, Atomiswave, all Sega consoles, all Nintendo consoles and Virtual Boy, PS1, PS2. Right now I'm working on getting PS3, 360, and a nice collection on Nintendo Switch roms :) I'd definitely buy this just for the PC titles.
Might just me the one I got, but there seems to be inconsistencies on each one they send out. I didn't get some sytem roms like 3DO, NDS, N3DS, etc. And of the systems that are available, there are differences in library size. Here are a few: System Roms - Me / You: MAME - 2116 / 10201 Atari800 - 2670 / 2116 GBC - 1289 - 1046 GBA - 2782 - 1810 Lastly the themes and settings are different. There was a few rom folders that were not selected to display, so at first I thought I had way less games.
Definitely! The good news is that those folders are already in the Roms folder, you can just add the games to the folders and they should be detected (if you're using launchbox you might need to rescan the roms folders).
So I just got the hyper base mix and for the simulation station it only lets me play older games but it doesn’t let me play DS or super Nintendo like it loads up the screen like if it wants to launch the game but then it backs out every time I keep clicking on it can you help me figure out what to do please?
Try pressing select when you have Snes open, go down to 'advanced system options', and then change the emulator. There should be several to choose from, maybe one of those will work for you?
You'll need a PC for this one. If you'd like something you can use on your TV you can look into those android consoles, like the Super Console or Hyper Base devices I've reviewed.
I ordered from the link you provided above..i read some of the reviews...people are saying everything is in chinese and it doesnt work with their controllers that they're using on their pc
The fact that it's chinese doesn't affect anything. Launchbox, retrobat, and retroarch are all english programs. I tried several different controllers and tried it on several different PCs and it all worked as expected. As long as your controllers work with windows I'm sure it'll be fine. You could always download Retroarch right now (it's free) to test it out (it comes with some free homebrew roms to test).
Nope! But, if you get this product the company has an FTP server that you can connect to and get whatever other ROMS you're missing. Not that I'd condone such things...
Can you point me in the right direction I'm looking for a plug n play that has everything from arcade to like 360 ps3 era something I can plug into my TV n play ? Anybody but I want a good one
The best option for higher end emulation (ps3/xbox 360) is a gaming PC, a cheap prebuilt gaming PC with at least an i5 10400, 16gb ram, and a GTX 1650 (min) would work well. If you're looking for something cheap and small that you can buy and use with this hard drive something like this mini PC that I reviewed recently would work well (ruclips.net/video/_vir-A4j1E8/видео.html), although you won't get xbox 360 on that. But PS3 works pretty good! For xbox 360 you pretty much need a PC with a dedicated GPU. And there aren't any emulation products that come pre-loaded with xbox 360 games (that I know of).
One thing that is bad about it if you buy it you could end up in prison. Its unlikely but most first world countrys have laws against buying stolen stuff.

Again, it showed "unable to access, directory corrupted." If you have one of these, make sure you shut down the computer or hit the "eject media" for the drive before unplugging. For me, I'm done with this drive.
i'm guessing you didn't "make sure you shut down the computer or hit the "eject media" for the drive before unplugging" ?
@@jensbekaert166 Well, that may have happened on the first drive, but I was careful to properly disconnect the drive on the second drive. I've had some power outages, which may have caused the second drive to break, but it didn't affect the other drives I had plugged in. This is just a word of warning to let you know this can happen.
Hey man thanks for the videos,
Can I copy the entire drive into an NVME super fast drive ?
No reason to really, but yeah
Yup!
I was thinking the same thing or to just put everything in launchbox
Do you think that making a copy of this hard drive to an external ssd would boost performance even further? Or would it be throwing money away?
Maybe slightly faster loading time for the more recent console systems like Gamecube, PS2 etc and the PC games. The rest likely no difference.
Game performance will definitely depend on what PC you connect it to.
I love tech dweebs voice it makes the videos fun
This was the dream of every 80's kid, every game ever made at the click of a button! Makes me wonder if I live another 40 years (hey I'd only be a spry 87!) if they'll have 6 Petabyte drives (or holographic crystals or whatever the storage medium of choice is in 2063) and be advertising 1 million Games! Every game for every system up through the Playstation 10 and X-Box Series XVX .
A dweeb can dream...
WTF with the oreo XD
🍪`
THIS THING LOOKS AMAZING!!! Made up my mind as to what I'm going to buy. Never going to need another console again with this it has everything I could ever want to play and the best part is I don't have to buy any of them individually or have the console to play them!!
Nice! Hope you love it!
One complaint I've heard from someone on a previous video is that they couldn't start launchbox for some reason is this true and if so how would I fix that? Any help would be great!!
Also would you be able to make a video on how to add games?
@@deconstructingnarcissism3062 You can still use the frontend of your choice with these roms, you're not locked to the ones in the disc.
That's very impressive to see all those games on one drive 😅😮
Keep it up Dweeb Lol love the theme of the channel. Brings me back to old cartoon network show.
Thanks buddy!
@@TechDweeb @TechDweeb I was wondering if you wouldn't mind dropping a short video on how we can add retro emulators of OG Xbox, Wii, WiiU, PS3, Xbox360, NDS, 3DS etc to this "Hyper Base Mix" if it is even possible? This would be awesome for us TechDweeb subs.
I have a more than capable PC and want a drive that is awesome! Deleted the shady PC pirated stuff. I just need pure retro bliss.
The missing emulators should have in further updates are Microsoft (MS-DOS, Xbox OG and 360) and bad thing is Playnite due to no updates or "Codex Patcher" built-in
Hi guys!! How does this compare with the 2TB JW hard drive you reviewed before? Does it still have as many retro Sinclair , C64, Mame games on it as the other hard drives aswell as all the high end stuff aswell?.... I'm impressed with all the PS2/ Gamecube games available on this one!! It looks amazing!! BTW, great Utube channel Tech Dweeb!! 👍👍
Also, it looks like a lot less duplicate ROMs on this hard drive?
Yeah a lot less dups. Check the game lists in the description if you want to know what's on here, I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to those old retro computer systems.
From the video looks like no retro 8/16-bit computer games?
Thank you for convincing me to get this emulation drive. Im new to emulation and this thing is truely amazing. I can't get Sega Saturn to work wich is kind of a bummer, but other than that this thing works perfectly. I highly recommend it to anyone who's new to emulation unless Sega Saturn is really important to you.
Oh yeah? I wonder why it's not working for you. You can probably get it to work if you tinker, try starting up retroarch by itself, loading up a Saturn rom, and then when it asks you which core try several different options.
@TechDweeb I will try that, thank you TechDweeb! 😊
What about the Launchbox license? I doubt these drives hold genuine ones. It's a current product and this would be undercutting the developers.
I thought Launchbox was free, but Bigbox is paid?
@@TechDweeb it's free only up to a certain number of games. 100 maybe?
@@eduardopatricio The basic desktop version of LaunchBox is free. I use it with my setup with thousands of games. As far as i can tell the only thing that is paid is the BigBox mode and some customization options like themes and stuff. If you look at the LaunchBox segment in the video you can see it denotes "free version" in the upper right.
@@killswitchscar1060 Ah, right. So the 100 games limitation must be on the Android version then. 👍🏽
This thing is amazing. I did delete the pc aaa games to bulk up the ps2 games to over 600. It's missing some real gems
Separate frontends depending on the console being emulated is a non-starter. Why do that when both ES and LB can easily handle all the different systems?
I'm with ya.
@@TechDweeb can't the roms be moved over to the other emulator?
People, just curate your own collections. You never know what craziness you're putting in your PC if they're willing to straight up put pirated modern PC games on it... 😂
Messing with emulation settings can be daunting, but it's a fun learning experience if you're into tech. I curate my own collections for my emulators by ripping my own games and other "archives" 😉 And I still find time to do that working two jobs.
And best part it's free and won't give your PC a Trojan. 😂
What if I have two toddlers and work 40 hours and don’t wanna do all that tho
@@JetSetTyler then spend the money duh. U pay in labor or you trade your labor for cash then trade cash for someone else's labor. Depending on your income it might cost less to just pay the professional and work your job but for lots of us poors out here we dont make enough money to pay someone else so we do our own labor. Its not a choice when you are broke or just like diy stuff
This is a very good point. I hope everyone runs Bit Defender.
@Generic Name ok. I'll just go home and stare at the wall after work today.... 😂😂😂
Boi, I work 2 jobs, GTFO here with "If you had responsibilities..." 😂😂😂
I already have a near perfect retro rom collection from 3do, Jaguar, TurboGrafx, Cave, CP, Konami, Atomiswave, all Sega consoles, all Nintendo consoles and Virtual Boy, PS1, PS2. Right now I'm working on getting PS3, 360, and a nice collection on Nintendo Switch roms :) I'd definitely buy this just for the PC titles.
Nice sir it's super expensive in india
Ah that's a bummer. I know you guys often have to pay more for things that are cheap in North America :(
Don't let the price get you down. You can always make this yourself. I know it can take a while, but can be fun to make it the way you want it.
@@joshsadowski8869 ok sir thank you for your advice i will try
I’m having issues launching launchbox, any advice?
... *opens up the massive 5TB drive to find a near empty plastic box with a 32GB micro sd card inside*
I still don't get how Amazon allows some blatant copyright infringement on its storefront.
It's one of life's great mysteries 🤔
voice dubbed by a smurf?
How do I order it from India, this has everything that I always wanted to buy
Have you done any scans for malware on this drive? This is an extremely common attack vector.
Yup. I do virus scans on all these emulation hard drive products. Haven't found anything yet.
Great overview!
Anyone know if there's a tv version of this emulator? Would be cool to play on the big screen.
I'd suggest adding a MIIN PC to attach to the TV and turn it into a home theatre PC.
@@TechDweeb thanks 🙂
Or get those cheap Android TV boxes that came with bundled games which you can connect directly to TV.
Might just me the one I got, but there seems to be inconsistencies on each one they send out.
I didn't get some sytem roms like 3DO, NDS, N3DS, etc.
And of the systems that are available, there are differences in library size. Here are a few:
System Roms - Me / You:
MAME - 2116 / 10201
Atari800 - 2670 / 2116
GBC - 1289 - 1046
GBA - 2782 - 1810
Lastly the themes and settings are different. There was a few rom folders that were not selected to display, so at first I thought I had way less games.
Great box, but is this using a licensed version of launchbox? Proper license? Do they know of this?
I believe this is the free version. The paid version is for Bigbox, which isn't on here, unless I'm mistaken?
Those things are really awesome! Is there a 12TB one that is compatible with Mac?
Once u delete the PC games, can u add a wii or PS3 emulator and games to it?
obv bro u can add... but you have to link the destination to the retroarch
Definitely! The good news is that those folders are already in the Roms folder, you can just add the games to the folders and they should be detected (if you're using launchbox you might need to rescan the roms folders).
Forget that, The most important thing is the OREO cookies. 😎👍💯
Hey guys if buy an empty 5t hdd and copy all.the contents of this device. Would it work as an exact copy of the hard drive?
Yup
So I just got the hyper base mix and for the simulation station it only lets me play older games but it doesn’t let me play DS or super Nintendo like it loads up the screen like if it wants to launch the game but then it backs out every time I keep clicking on it can you help me figure out what to do please?
Try pressing select when you have Snes open, go down to 'advanced system options', and then change the emulator. There should be several to choose from, maybe one of those will work for you?
Musashi47 here have the same controller too 😅 great video
Cool. What computer did you run this on?
Specs in description 👍
Wait so i can buy this and plug it into my tv? Or do i have to plug it into a computer?
Retrobat, I mean (retrobat comes with retroarch)
I appreciate the response. I am still waiting for it to arrive. It should be here next week. I will update you on the product once it does.
Another banger, sir. Good stuff!
I just ordered one. Wondering if I should sell my n64 and Dreamcast to cover the cost but might regret it
Don't sell them, unless you're really really tight on budget.
Save your retro consoles! I wish I saved mine over the years instead of selling them.
what os do you use to run all those games?
Windows.
Do you think you can upload the roms so we can download them I like them since they are clean us roms :)
Nope! But, if you get this product the company has an FTP server that you can connect to and get whatever other ROMS you're missing. Not that I'd condone such things...
can't seem to find this anymore at amazon at least...any other sources?
amzn.to/420Tj3y
Aliexpress also selling the exact same product, and cheaper, though obviously you wouldn't get the same customer return service as Amazon.
I noticed on the games list that Mother 3 is on there. Is this the translated version or the Japanese one?
Do you think this would be worth playing with a prebuilt mini-pc?
Definitely!
Can you point me in the right direction I'm looking for a plug n play that has everything from arcade to like 360 ps3 era something I can plug into my TV n play ? Anybody but I want a good one
Following. Something like this device that works on a TV is exactly what I need!
@@TechDweeb ok thank you yea most looking for 3rd party games on the ps3 360 stuff
This looks great, but sadly they don't ship to Canada...
Ya otherwise I would prob order it..
Would this work on something like the nvidia shield?
Nope, this one is for Windows PCs only.
So if u get what youre saying this drive is what runs the games and any pc with jusy any spec can play them ?
Yeah, the emulators and ROMs are on the drive, and you run those on a computer.
Unfortunately I can't open the lists. It's asking for me to pay a subscription to view it
One thing that is bad about it if you buy it you could end up in prison. Its unlikely but most first world countrys have laws against buying stolen stuff.
