    Subscriber here. Great two part video which I've shared with friends and family as I plan to be there in 2022. I would like to know what neighborhoods do most expats live in Cuenca? This will help me when looking for an apartment so I can ease into the change from the US. Thanks.

    Great to hear the many different, yet somewhat similar, perspectives on life in Cuenca. I'm looking forward to retiring in less than 8 months, but was planning on moving to Costa Rica. Your channel is giving me a lot to consider. Thank you!

      Thanks for watching, we’re glad we can provide useful information for you. Congratulations on the upcoming retirement regardless of where you go. 😁👍 We couldn’t make up our mind that’s why we decided to travel the world. Cuenca is definitely in the top of our choices when we settle for good. We’ve extended our time here until February 2021, if the borders are open and Covid19 isn’t an issue Columbia is next.

    Best video ever. I've been trying to get this exact information for awhile. I am turning 61 soon and plan on moving at 62. Waiting on SS. I'm excited and scared. Lol. I am wondering about bringing pets with me. Any advice?

    Good video Warren and Julie...interesting perspectives. Two questions I would like to hear responses to are:...!- What do you wish you had brought here?...and 2- What do you wish you had left at home and not brought, or brought less of?

    • @WarrenJulieTravel

      Honestly we were not caught off guard too much and what to expect, the biggest curveball we had was COVID-19.
      We bought a Roku which is great, but the Amazon fire stick is able to use a VPN which enables us to watch a little bit more of a selection, so I guess bring an Amazon fire stick which we have one now though. Since we are each only traveling with about two suitcases worth of stuff it’s hard for us to say we brought too much of anything, our only response would be maybe too many clothes. We came with a whole lot of $10 bills, and in Cuenca a $20 bill feels like a $50 bill and can be hard to break at the Mercado and Tiendas, so I wish I had brought even more $10 bills. 😁

    I appreciated the information the group provided. One factor that would be nice to know is what expats do that are in need of prescription meds? Are there good drug stores in the area and what are the prices like compared to the U.S. ?

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  3 года назад +2

      🤔There are many pharmacies in the area, most medications you can just tell them what you need, most do not need a prescription. Most medications here are less expensive maybe similar to generic prices in the US. That said we can’t speak about all medications, just our experiences and those shared with us. 😁

    Is there any info we can get on how they all manage taxes in retirement when they don't work in Ecuador? And if they have US retirement accounts or other US sourced income like rent, is there any tax that needs to be paid in Ecuador?

    As Kay I am also from Seattle, and the "Homeless" although we should call it the drug addicts crisis is 10 times worst than in Guayaquil (Which is by far the most dangerous city in Ecuador. Safety wise I thing I would feel a lot safer in Cuenca than in Seattle, although with the mass immigration of Venezuelans the safety has been compromised...But still what is happening in the US in places like Portland, Seattle, Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago and New York is very serious and very very heart wrenching. Another great video! One of the issues that concerns us about Panama is some of the indigenous critters. Since Cuenca is at such a high altitude, I'm guessing that snakes, scorpions, etc. are not a big deal? Can you address that? Thanks again!

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  3 года назад +1

      I’m unaware of snakes or scorpions in the area. There are some very slow flys, slow cockroaches that seem to live the single life, and spiders which are also slow. I don’t think I’ve seen a mosquito, Julie said very rarely. I’m sure if they are here they are slow also 😂

    • @mikejunior211
      @mikejunior211 3 года назад

      The good thing about Cuenca is that similar to Washington State there is almost no critters that were so common in North Carolina... For instance I haven't seen roaches or mice or even flies here and Cuenca is very similar...However Spiders including Black Widows and Brown Recluses are common in cold weathers.

    One thing I would like to see you and everybody else that posts videos on RUclips do is give a date each time you do a video. I mean on the video itself. For example: "we are here in Cuenca, Ecuador on October 19th, 2020." It's very important because when you are discussing pricing on apartments, food, utilities, et cetera, it's very important that the viewer knows the information is current. There is a date under the video that shows when it was posted, but sometimes, you will actually see videos produced 2 or 3 years earlier than the posting date. It's very annoying to be ten minutes into a video with prices being discussed and finding out that the info. is dated and therefore inaccurate.
    I watched 2 of your videos and subscribed. Thanks.

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  3 года назад +1

      Thanks, so far everything we’ve done is March 2020 or more recent. You can trust our dates. It may take a month to catch up on videos so, we should not be older than that at uploading.

    So dental floss isn't a thing in Ecuador? What do the locals do for that aspect of dental health?

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  4 года назад +1

      Boyd Jones It’s here it’s just much more expensive than what you see in the states. Unfortunately the dental offices have been closed because of COVID-19 unless it’s an emergency, I hope to visit one of the clinics while I’m here. There are a lot of dentists in the Cuenca area, and from what I understand it is very inexpensive.
