- This video is meant to show the quality of life you can experience as a retiree in Ecuador for as low as $500 a month. This is based on the $200 a month suite with a $300 meal plan at the Oasis Eco Resort outside of Cuenca Ecuador. You may also choose other options to include building a home on the resort property. All of the options require a one time $5,000 fee to join the Intentional Community at the Eco Resort.

Ecuador is affordable, and the lifestyle you can have on a typical Social Security check of $1,500 a month is very attractive. Budgets vary, and many live in Cuenca Ecuador on much less than $1,500 and others far exceed $1,500. We've met people living on under $1,000 while we've been here, so that is a possibility.

@@idratherbeatthebeach4752 if you were here you probably wouldn’t be worried, elections are coming and there is no concern from the expat community. Truth be told the US has been more chaotic than Ecuador as of late IMO.

Just retired and looking to explore and moving somewhere that is simple and affordable.
Probably a good country for you.
To get legal pensioner/retirement residency in Ecuador requires a minimum of $800 a month for one person and an addition $100 or so for dependents. Nicaragua used to be cheaper, but now requires $1000 US a month for singles and $150 a month more for dependents. Otherwise, you will have to leave every six months and stay out of Ecuador for six months.
That was in 2021. No more.
Looks and sounds great for young to middle age however lots of steep hills and stairs for the senior citizens
This looks great! I could see my sister and I using the cabin you showed. It’s one cabin but there’s some nice privacy as well.
It would be very easy to have plenty of privacy with the way the cabin is divided, if you were looking at the cabin that Julie and I stayed in.

Hi Warren and Julie! I watched you two on Amelia and JP's site. I think I have also talked with Louie before as well. I think he was also planning another resort on the beach. I was wondering if he has gotten started on that. As I love the mountains, but I also love the warmth of the beach. My dogs would probably like the beach better as well. So I was wondering if you have any more info on whether or not he's started the beach evo resort.

I like this concept. So do they have nursing homes in Ecuador? You know we’re not getting any younger and I’ve wondered how this will be in Ecuador.
I believe it’s more like assisted living, I think some people hire someone to take care of them at home. This concept appears to help in these situations.

Yes there are nursing homes in Ecuador. My grandma pays $300 a month of it. It’s really cheap and they take good care of her!

I would like to purchase but don’t know how to get into contact with you. I will be there on the 21st and would like to come see the property. This would be a dream come true and I have been planning this for years.
There was no mention of Wi-Fi or cell phone service. Perhaps that is part of the intentional living lifestyle at the eco-resort? He was talking about assisted-living type of situations which sounds curious only because it looks like there is a lot of stair climbing and hilly situations which could prove to be very challenging for elderly or physically challenged people. How quickly could emergency services get to this location?
I’m not sure why the meals included plan cost $300 a month where as if you go there as a visitor you have to pay $30 a day or let’s say $900 a month? Thanks 🙏
I’ll ask Louis to respond to your comments and questions. I think most people would come able body initially, but as years pass they would assist the person as needed.

I agree as people get older well that’s just life and perhaps they would make a change at some point.
Our current plan is to build a 9-unit "assisted Living" complex, connected to the main floor of our lodge building....those who choose to live in a private condo will not have to climb any stairs in order to join the others in the community center; as for the time to the nearby hospital, it is approximately 20 minutes by car/ambulance...police are 2 kilometers away in our village, where also exists a free clinic for basic medical help

@@casamurphy we have two antenna receptors now that serve the main lodge and first 3 cabins...others can set up their own service for $35/month, and the one company that serves this area is beginning to install a fiber optic system

each member is supported in having whatever legal papers drawn up here in Cuenca; technically there is no sale of property, but a lifetime lease agreement; you own the building that you build, but not the land that it sits upon; if you are buying a cabin or condo as an investment the community agrees to buy the building back from you any time you like

@@spearageddon3279 assuming that the family member wants to become a member of the community, yes the cabin can be gifted to a family member...otherwise the community can buy back the cabin and the proceeds wired to anyone chosen in their end of life paperwork....we work with each member with their end of life process

(Cuenca resident for 6 years). I’m not sure where he got the statistic of 50% of Gringos are full time residents, and 50% are snowbirds. Was he referring to just the residents of the community, or Cuenca in general?

about half of the gringo population in Cuenca spends 3-6 months each year in Cuenca, the rest of the year in USA or Canada...this is a well known fact

for most the altitude, which is the same as downtown Cuenca, is not a problem.....there are 3 bus lines that serve Jadan, and would drop you off aand pick you up right at our front gate

The beach is a long way away from this property.
I did want to retire in Ecuador, but after hearing about all of the violence I’ve been hearing about, I’m going to take a hard pass.
You have to look at location, Guayaquil, Manta and Quito are not Cuenca. It’s like judging the US on Detroit, Chicago, & New Orleans. Honestly though, do your own research. I’m not sure what story spooked you, living abroad is not for everyone. You should see how scary the US looks in the news though.

Has anyone ever mined for gold in the creek? I saw you had quartz and immediately thought that gold and quartz are like twins. Not to get rich but as a hobby. Warren or Julie which one of you started the beautiful fire, I can never start one in the fireplace, so irritating.

The location is in the Andes Mountains outside of Cuenca. The Beach would be a days drive away.

How much money for buying such a house?
Which one? You can rent a place in the big house, or build a home on a plot by joining the community. You would pay $5,000 to join the community, the larger cabin cost $23,000 so that would be $28,000 total. The places we stayed in cost $18,000 to build so $5k less. To rent in the big house it’s $200 a month.

we feel that they are very secure, as long as you know how to pick the bank...for us the cooperatives are the most stable. The protection offered here is limited, I think, to $30k
