Main price difference is material: - Plastic (cheap) bicycle helmets - Glass fibre (mid priced) motor bike helmets - Carbon fibre (most expensive) motor bike helmets. Shoei & Arai are for sure among the most expensive but really good helmets (still ride my old carbon Shoei, but think its aged now so not as safe but good enough for EUC speeds...was 300€ back then, 700 is just silly LOL)
Great review and I would like to see more on Ski Helmets as they are made to withstand multiple inpacts where as motorcycle helmets are single impact use only! Or so they say?
Color Match vs Safety: At first I was only looking for helmets that matched the colors of my scooter (grey with black). I found one and it looks great. Then I thought well it looks cool but it's probably not visible at night. So since safety is more important than looks (to me) I started looking for bright colors and came across "Hi-Vis" which is usually a very bright yellow or bright orange. I had hard time choosing from black/grey vs highlighter yellow since both beautiful. I almost purchased both but then realized if I only buy one I can get the knee braces faster. So I continued searching and came across a helmet that achieves both: it has hi-vis orange and grey. (Hi-Vis = high visibility).
was going to get the downhill helmet, since i dont go fast...then realised im sharing the road with metal cages thats mass + speed hurdle around me = a bad day if I get slammed by a car soooo went for the shoei. thanks for the help!
For moped i had a dirtbike helmet, open and sunglasses worked great for me 50kmh. With my bike drive license i got a free moto helmet, it was not a bad helmet. And now i have a shoei gt air, yes a pain to get on and off but uh def a step up in quality and features. I use pinlock on both, no fog. Maybe i go buy a downhill helmet for euc as open and light is very nice for less than 50kph. Waiting for my first euc to arrive and then i am going to learn alot this winter.
I bought a typhoon modular helmet as my first. It did well on the squeeze test... lol Flip up visor, flip up face guard with flip down sun glasses. 4 vents, one closable at the mouth. It gets foggy standing still, riding is clear and wind noise isn't bad. I can vouch for its toughness- I face planted after a violent wobble last Monday, ragdolled all over the place...smh Shattered elbow, but that's mostly it... the helmet has some light scuffing on the top of the visor, that's all! Looking to go with Reevu helmet with the interior rear mirror system next. Once my rebuilt elbow heals...smh
The TSG Pass needs to mentioned. it is extremely comfortable and has a massive viewing area. After trying all sorts of other full face and moto helmets, my search was over the moment I tried on the TSG Pass.
@@Papalou1234 uuuf, that is a lot but I will still insist its worth every penny if you're able to find one and can afford it. They're sold out everywhere and for good reason
Helmet fit SHALL be tight, most non motor bike riders don't seem to be aware. NEW helmet shall hurt a bit the first days up to a week as foam re-shape. Thats what makes it stay in place as you take a nose dive. They shall allwsys "burn your ears" a bit when torn off or they are too big ;)
Nice...I've been researching helmets everyday for about 2 weeks now. I keep changing my mind. Originally I was going to get Leatt but they have serious quality issues (rust). Bell is the one for me: stainless steel screws and double d rings, 5 year warranty, they even replace helmets with a new one (not sure on the details).
Funny I was also looking for AliExpress for helmets with signal lights. Like, highly visible helmets. There's tons of cars and motorcycle here. I'm less worried about high speed incidents. And I assume ppl in the northern hemisphere get more daylight time than in the equators. At 5-6 PM going home from work, its already dark here. Lighting seems more important factor.
When I got my V5F, I just wore my bicycle helmet that I used on my scooter. When I ordered my Gotway Tesla, I also ordered a cheap motorcycle helmet. This seemed like a good idea. I learned to ride the V5F during the winter, and the chilly air at 15+ mph made my eyes water. Motorcycle helmets have visors to block wind, *AND* they have an integrated sun blocker. How can you beat that for $70?! As you know, your field of view is pretty limited in a motorcycle helmet. And here in Texas, even my white helmet was hot in the summer. I wound up buying a Bell Super 3R. It was the only MTB helmet I could find on Amazon that had plenty of ventilation. That ventilation is worth every penny when it is 105 degrees outside! I don't ride as fast as most of the folks on RUclips. My rides usually average 12 mph on our bike trails, and my top speed isn't much over 20 mph. I have a speed alarm set to help keep me under 20. 25 mph isn't less smooth or any scarier than 20 mph, except that I understand how much more energy I'm carrying while traveling faster. I'm too old to want to take a 30 mph crash!
Oh no! I forgot to mention the vents in my cheap motorcycle helmet! The simple vents that it has work. When I open them, as long as I'm going 10 or 15 mph, they keep me fairly cool. The trouble is when I stop. Holy crap do you get hot when you have to stop for a minute or two! :)
@@mig6220 My V5F fell *A LOT* while I was learning, but I always stayed up. I fell off my Tesla once at around only 10 mph, and it wasn't fun. No serious damage, but it sure knocked the wind out of me. I don't even want to imagine doing the same thing at more than double the speed. I hope you're OK, Miguel! :)

Putting on knee pads, elbow pads, and/or a heavy jacket to go another 5 to 10 mph doesn't seem worth it to me. Am I really safe enough like this?
