I still love and collect for the 3DS but for everyone who was into this great handheld for a long time: We all know that is not "more alive than it's ever been" because we all lived through the time where you would get less and less streetpass activity. Man, it was so great being on the road or vacation or a convention or a train station with your 3DS in the backpack and in the evening seeing all the miis that "visited your 3DS" and getting puzzle parts from them or bonus items in some games. This was truly a special feeling that no other console will ever give again. Seeing the Mii-Worldmap fill up and so on... I remember being on vacation in Croatia with my wive and kids (we're from germany) and an Italian family with a young girl stayed next to us and in the evening there was a Mii from Italy "visiting" our 3DSes - it was from that girl. The next day this was what caused all the kids to try to get to know each other.
Admittedly I didn't get too into Streetpass. Which is why I haven't said much about it. I usually like to play single player games, so social connectivity doesn't drawn me in. Though, it was really neat seeing the green light blinking after you would walk through a public area. I like hearing stories like this because the 3DS has things that I didn't really experience.
Goodmornin fellow German, Lets be honest, Connecting with others with the 3Ds was the normal way of dealing with things. Everyone had a 3Ds and If one person had a multiplayer game, everyone could connect to it via download play. Back when the 3Ds launched, people could keep in contact via Nintendo Letter Box (or in other Regions: Nintendo Briefkasten / Swapnote), which helped a lot. I still know, I got to meet a few really nice people via Heroes of Ruin, which was (afaik) the only game which had Voicechat functions. Back in the Day, you were able to just join any random online game and make friends with any random that you encounter. I rarely see any one play this game anymore. I still know when Skyward Sword released on the Wii, Nintendo released "The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition" for 3Ds and DSi for free. Everyone around me, even my Grandma, had it. Everyone could just play with each other. The possibilities were practically endless. People could meet up, play the game for a few minutes to hours and then go on with their day. Even if you pass by them, you would get a notification via the Streetpass-Lobby that their Mii came to visit. Everyone always had their 3Ds in their pocket or backpack to be ready for everything. I can still recall my parents gifting me a carrying case so that my 3Ds is safe even whilst traveling or school. Even if the eShop would still be open for all eternity, we all know that the 3Ds is slowly dying. As you already said, the streetpass activity reduced drastically. Only on gaming events I can still get new miis to join my Streetpass-Lobby. I personally believe that our Smartphone filled in the "Handheld" slot the 3Ds was in all those years. Why buy a handheld when you have your phone with you all of the time already? Personally I will keep on loving them and even take them with me on trips, like I did all those years.
It's so sad that the switch sucked away all the fun unique features like streetpass that made the 3ds feel connected. It was awesome from 2012-2015 and it made going on road trips fun since you could get to see messages from all the other kids in their cars on I-95, and it even made regular menial tasks feel way more 'alive' when you realized you got a message from a random person who liked the same game as you. By 2016 I was already well into high school though and I could see the number of other people on streetpass going wayy down before I finally stopped using my 3DS altogether. Sometimes I look back at it and it's cool to see the plaza packed with hundreds of random passersby who you'll never see again. Some of the names and timestamps even trigger an old memory that takes me back to wherever I was that day even if it wasn't particularly eventful. It was a pretty cool idea to bring people together in a world that's becoming more and more isolated and I feel like people could use it now even more than before
I wish Nintendo was still producing them. Even with no new games, I think the 3DS is still relevant. That and it would prevent them from becoming rarer and more and more expensive second-hand overtime. I would love to get some more of them into my collection. 😅
I wish they were still making them too. It was still selling well when it was discontinued. I know that we have to move on eventually, but it seems like the 3DS could have had a longer lifespan than Nintendo was willing to give it.
@@NeanderMeander they could have kept selling it as a cheaper alternative to the switch ans switch lite, or just for nostalgia since it was still selling. that would have been a better way to go about this rather than just fully discontinue it and shutdown the eshop
@@NeanderMeander I got a 3ds dev console right before they shut the selling of them down. It even has a late production date Im sure for dev equipment this is rare.
The 3ds is also the only time ive seen them release donky kong land 1 and the donky kong 1994 game were it starts off like the arcade and goes into an adventure.
The 3DS was there when no one else was. I will never forget all of my memories with mine. I used to fall asleep hugging mine because it helped me feel less alone. I have 9 now and still play them as frequent as ever. I’m gonna miss this era of Nintendo
@@anires1195 Prices are high because people have lost their minds. There was a time when nobody really cared about the 3DS. You could pick them up for around $20. I got one for that much.
Such an expansive library and so many beautiful editions of the 3DS. I kind of wish the Switch had as many editions as the 3DS cause it was so fun that everyone in my friend group had a different 3DS that matched our personality
It’s definitely a missed opportunity for Nintendo. The 3DS special editions were so much fun to collect. There were so many it was fun when you came by those past editions
Do you mean visual design editions (pokemon, animal crossing, zelda) or functionality editions (xl versions and "new" versions) because the different functionality editions are kind of... annoying in a way and sorry if I'm being mean to your harmless comment. They mostly just caused you to buy one and the next couple of months the better one came out and you have to stay behind with the worse model or buy the whole thing again and it got more frustrating with the "new" versions as they had very important features, exclusive games and a higher price tag.
@@redtheyiffer You're absolutely right about different functionality designs being annoying. I was more talking about visual designs. Like I had a red 3DS since that's my favorite color while some of my other friends had blue, purple, Pokemon, Zelda, or whatever.
There's plenty of different colors for the Lite version, plus all of the limited edition variants of the regular Switch (Scarlet/Violet, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, and Monster Hunter variants), though I suppose those are all technically base black, with fancy designs on the back. But there's also a red Mario-themed edition of the regular Switch. I would imagine that the different joycon colors are meant to be the most expressive part of the console, since they come in SO MANY different colors and combinations. I don't think there's been a Zelda themed console though; that's all we're missing from your list
Your love of this system is infectious my dude. Everything about your videos are top notch. And the eshop closing sadly was inevitable. Nintendo does anti consumer stuff like this all the time. But I’m glad it brought the 3Ds back into the spotlight one more time. It’s made showing off my collection a lot more fun.
Thanks for always coming back and watching! I'm very passionate about the 3DS and I'm happy to find others who share my same thoughts about it. Which models do you have?
As long as you keep putting content out I’ll keep watching 👍🏻 And my collection consists of Every Zelda 3ds/ 2ds release, The fire emblem 3ds xl, a new 3ds with the triforce cover plates, a new 3ds xl and my only modded model which is a blue 2ds xl. I’m always on the lookout for more. I love this system so much as well. It. Thought me back into collecting/ games again.
@@justineckard5399 agreed. I love this guy's enthusiasm is great. Especially the part about the 3DS just waking up. Brilliant!!! They should release a special 'swansong' final edition 3DS. One for the road as they say!!!
I'd say that it's getting appreciated now. During it's run I think many people though it was a kid system, which wasn't totally true. If Nintendo started manufacturing them again, there's no doubt they would sell
3DS has 3 generations worth of games. It can play GBA and DS games. What's more amazing is that the resolution is close to retro consoles like the SNES, Genesis, PS1 and such. You can expect a pixel perfect emulation for the games. Low resolutions lcds are rare and it's worth owning a 3ds just for this use.
Actually all the gba and DS consoles have lower resolutions than the 16 bit and 32 bit consoles. I never understand why people jailbreak them to put emulators on as they are always inherently graphically inferior
Such a great handheld. It's currently my favorite handheld of all time. Although it always did bother me how they kept the SNES games reserved for the New models. The old 3DSs can run Snes9x just fine, so i think Nintendo just kept those games exclusive to help warrant the upgrade.
It's my favorite handheld as well! Yeah, Nintendo almost certainly kept SNES games exclusive to the "New" models to warranty the upgrade. It worked on me, so job well done
Dang, this hits me hard. I absolutely love my 3DS, and I've been getting broken models to fix and sell...but I end up keeping most of them. I love this little console so much.
Imo it’s my favorite console ever the 3ds games are amazing but what truly makes the 3ds amazing is the ds games the 3d ability and being able to play older games plus love the folder part about it t help organize your stuff plus the background themes and the ability to decorate with stickers and other things it’s one the the most unique consoles out there that never seems to run out of games I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on a car trip and this thing has came in clutch amazing system
my newfound obsession with the 3DS came when the switch was released as my parents gave me and my older brother one switch and since he's always on it, I turned back to my 3DS and later upgraded to a new 2DSXL for my 17th birthday. the news that the eshop would close so soon was upsetting since I have a large wish-list that I was planning on getting when I got a job to expand the storage space and buy my whole wish-list. I really hope most of them get ported to switch.
Great video. I'm still on the lookout for a new 3DS XL. I've had a 2DS all this time and its loaded with 150 titles from the eshop. One of the things not mentioned (or really just hinted at) in this video is just how amazing the UI is. Beyond the eshop the customisable themes (added to by stuff like badge arcade) and the way it tracks your stats for playing all make it something truly special. I will never understand why Nintendo brought this down to about 2% functionality on the Switch which has one of the worst UI's ever.
Yeah, the UI is really something else on the 3DS. I thought I cover that later on and focus on the games for this video, but I could have put it in there. The Switch's UI is incredibly dull compared to the 3DS.
No one’s talking about how pristine all your 3DS’s are?! Bc wow. I got into the 3DS late, two years ago, so finding them in good condition has been challenging. Great video, thanks!
They are so hard to find them in good condition. I bought most of mine brand new at retail stores while they were still available. I keep them all in their own cases and I'm very careful with them. I'm still on the lookout for quite a few models. Most of them have scratched screens and scuffed corners.
Hey, nice video! You should post a video saying that People should call Nintendo about the eshop closing. I called them, and if they get enough complaints about the closing, they just might reverse it.
I just bought a 3Ds game recently. I like the 3ds a lot. It just feels and looks like a high quality products. I do plan on selling it soon though. I’m done collecting for it. I have the switch, which doesn’t feel as high quality as my 3ds. The games look better of course, but the 3ds is built so solid. It’s a great console to get into for new comers.
@@NeanderMeander I don’t know, I wa a looking at some game and they pretty expensive. Kirby’s epic yarn, forget about it. It’s pricey. You can find some fair prices if you look though. The Nintendo games are high priced and will probably stay that way for a while.
The glasses free 3d is such a cool feature and I hope it returns one day. It doesn't always add a lot to the gameplay but it adds tremendously to the immersion by adding depth and it looks like you are looking INTO the screen. Super Mario 3d Land also showed us there are huge possibilities for new gameplay innovations with it. There aren't that many 3d games though, it was a feature that was not used enough.
I'm so lucky I got a New 3DS XL in 2020. I got it for $140 including shipping and tax on ebay and now they're selling for an insane $250-300. I love my New 3DS XL but if they were $250+ when I got mine I don't think I would have purchased one.
I bought almost a month ago a New 3DS XL at a pawn shop for $119 The pawn shop must've not known what they had because the sticker on the system said "Nintendo 3ds" for $119 and next to it was a Nintendo DSi XL with the SAME PRICE TAG and the same "Nintendo 3ds" sticker slapped on it ! Bought it immediately and kept my cool during the purchase incase it might raise suspicion. I squealed almost all the way home and I absolutely love it and daily it :3
@@SataniaMcDowel Similar thing, I got a blue old 3dsXL, in basically unused condition, at a pawn shop 3 weeks ago. About did a spit-take when I spotted it. It was leaving with me regardless, but I was very happy when they told me $89!
I recently homebrewed my old 3DS and I have to admit I am spending much more time gaming on it than my switch or other devices. My main jam is fire emblem and the titles on 3DS are just so true to the series.
I think the thing that’s most memorable for me as a day-1 3DS adopter is the actual built in software of the 3DS like the spotpass features, street pass features, the AR card games. It just had that Nintendo charm that I think we are missing now in this era of gaming. Nintendo seems to have changed a lot since the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS era. Not sure if it’s for better or for worse but the magical charm is gone with the switch, stripped of features that were great from Wii U and 3DS.
You're so right! The charm is gone with the Switch. Every time I turn on my 3DS or Wii U I'm greeted with amazing sounds, visuals, and music. The Switch is seriously lacking in those departments.
I love the ds and 3ds series. they were my childhood and the only consoles i owned until i got a switch lite. its sad to see the shop being taken down and i wish it wouldnt. i dont see why they are doing it and all it seems to cause is more piracy, which nintendo hates. before it shuts down i plan to get the rest of the zelda games and some of the mario games.
It was inevitable Nintendo would shut the eShop down. It does seem counter intuitive to close the shop then go after those who are trying to play the games they’ve locked away. But that’s just Nintendo
I am still collecting 3ds consoles and games in 2022. Cause 3ds is the best console ever for me. And you can't imagine how hard to find them here in Turkey 😓
The 3DS is one of my favorite consoles ever! I've owned three different models from Christmas of 2011 to present day and have played dozens of games on it. I agree that the market prices for new and used 3DS systems is undeniable proof that the system is alive and as strong as ever! I just downloaded a bunch of 3DS exclusive games from the eShop after hearing that it will be shutting down soon, and I can't wait to play through all of them! Thanks for another excellent video about the 3DS, you've absolutely earned a sub!
The Pokémon edition was a little tough to get. The SNES edition was really easy to find for a while. I got mine brand new from Amazon for $150. There was a time when people didn’t care about the 3DS just after the Switch came out.
@@NeanderMeander Yeah I didn’t get them at the time because I was waiting for the Switch. Wasn’t until recently that I understood the greatness of the 3DS.
Watching your videos after I finally pulled the trigger on a New 3DS LL Majora's Mask that I've wanted since it came out. It'll be joining my Blue Smash 3DS XL Original baby and my 2DS XL Hylian Shield to be my new 3D/Emulator Powerhouse. Keep up the 3DS content!
8:50 They were never offered by Nintendo, but with a modded 3Ds you can use a tool called the “Super Ultimate Injector” and get Gameboy advance games on every 3Ds working.
@@NeanderMeander I am really looking forward to more Homebrew on the 3Ds. Maybe it will get a phase like the psvita is in right now. The psvita Homebrew community is massive.
Thanks! I had an indie film director critique this video back when it first came out. He pretty much told me it was bad with it's composition. I didn't think it was too bad when I put it together. It's good to hear that there's someone out there that likes it.
Nintendo wasn't making as much money during this era, but even through the struggles, it was a legendary era full of so many hyped moments. Nothing will recreate the feeling of Streetpass, Miiverse, The Nintendo Directs, the Smash 4 hype. I'm glad to have been a part of it.
Your opening narrative was just good enough for me, stating how 3DS just woke up that is awesome and any real fan, especially a portable game. We know that that is sacked way to keep the fire burning or passing it into a flame there’s enough for convincing for me to just watch.
The DS lite was my first ever Nintendo handheld and I feel like the Wii and DS era is my true safe space in gaming and i always tend to go back to it every now and then I recently ordered a flare red 3DS off of eBay for a great price to satisfy that inner kid in me that wanted that specific model so badly even though it was the original 3ds and the newer models had more to offer, that one stood out to me. Likely because my first DS was the shiny Red DS lite I also bought a misty pink 3DS for my mom, we used to love battling it out in New Super Mario Bros' Mario versus Luigi mode
Thanks for sharing. That Flare Red 3DS is really good looking. From what I've seen, it isn't all that common. The Flame Red is everywhere. That's the color I have.
Ok… I’m back. That video was fantastic. Your love for the system is sooo beautifully captured. I’ve been gaming since the 80’s and the 3DS is my favourite gaming experience.
Dude that was shot so incredibly well I can't believe only 5k Subs. That's insane. Figured it was at least a 100k channel. Loved the cyclical design with the beginning intro to the outro. Made me want to fire up my 3ds
@@NeanderMeander well keep it up, because it's a severely underrated channel. The pan shots with depth and narrowing focus is just, *italian hand* _muah_
I bought a 3DS at the end of last year and it’s been collecting dust ever since. You’ve inspired me to look back into getting some more games for it. Also you’re vids are great
@@NeanderMeander definitely your console collection video!! I completely missed out on the DS line because I was studying for a licensing exam at the time and working 80+ hours a week for a few years after college. I started building my DS and 3DS collection recently, and PS Vita too! Man I missed out on an entire era. Never too late!!
@@moriyama815 I'm glad you liked that video. It was fun reliving those memories while I was writing and filming it. I completely missed the N64 and GameCube. I always felt like I missed out, but it made me really appreciate them while I discovered what they had to offer. My guess is that you are really cherishing your time with those handhelds now like how I cherish the time I spend on my N64 and GameCube. If feels good to have a chance to revisit those times.
I needed this today! The 3DS is such an amazing machine. I don't think it will ever go away. It's guys like us that will keep it alive and kicking. I still play mine nearly as much as my Switch.
@@NeanderMeander my pleasure! You're videos are anything but silly! You craft them with a lot care and heart. Hearing your stories about gaming and growing up always takes me back to a happy time. The 3DS will always have a soft spot. I picked one up after the Switch came out and fell back in love with Nintendo. I got a Switch a year later the 3DS was that much fun.
I'm playing Ocarina of Time on it right now. It's so fun. I didn't think I was gonna enjoy so much, because it's fundamentally really old and there's so much reading, but man... All I want to do right now is to get back on Ocarina of time.
@@NeanderMeander Absolutely! I feel like the 3DS may just be the most immortal console, considering all the DS and DSi Games work on it as well, the awesome 3DS titles, the download play and multiplayer features, and let's not forget the homebrew scene. It's very clear that the community will never let the 3DS die. In 2027 there will still be videos made about the 3DS and kids will be amazed by that weird handheld with two screens. Just found your channel, I don't normally sub quickly or go through old channel content but I guess there's a first for everything. Your content has a nostalgia to it. Hopefully you get more subs. This channel deserves it.
Such an amazing video. The 3DS is such a great system. Probably tied with the PSP as my favourite. It was also my first Nintendo system. I have great memories with it such as making new friends through Monster Hunter, and some painful like when Pokemon Omega Ruby bricked my first 3DS XL. I still play on my N3DS XL since I have a decent backlog on it. It sucks that Nintendo is shutting down the eShop for it. And it being Nintendo, odds of them changing their mind on it is highly unlikely. It really sucks here in South Africa because the distributor for Nintendo didn't do the best job handling things until the Switch. They'd do stuff like reseal game by heat wrapping it and damage cases, to even telling retailers the 3DS was discontinued 5 months before the Switch released. So aside from the struggle of getting games, it was a struggle to even get the system at times. Second hand stuff is quite rare as well because of it. Even with all that, I'm glad I still have mine and will never part with it
@@worldsboss The Pokemon carts in EU are pretty lousy. Always had an issue with them but OR was the worst case. I closed the system while I was in a Pokemon centre, so nothing was happening. Opened it a few hours later and the system was frozen. Eventually got it to reboot and was greeted by a black screen. Same thing then happened to a friend with his New 3DS XL and Pokemon Sun. I was lucky enough to not have to buy a replacement since someone at the distributor was really helpful. My Sun cart is already dying as well. When I last I tried playing it, as soon as I tried starting the game, it says I removed the cart and must restart the system
I was waiting for this video, I had a feeling you were gonna make it. We've talked a few times in previous videos about our shared love for the 3DS. And if it wasn't for your 3DS collection video, I wouldn't have added so many to my own collection. But with my ever growing physical library and my army of 3DS consoles, I will be well prepared to continue to play through what I have for many years to come. To be honest, I've never really been good at playing digital only games because my brain needs a physical entity to associate and remember to play it. So unfortunately my digital library might as well be a digital graveyard to me. However despite that, the 3DS eshop has gotten quite alot of love from me that past and current consoles haven't. Alot of the old pokemon games mostly, but some others as well. My og 3ds is the lime green Amazon exclusive, so it came with Super Mario World preloaded on to it. Games like the Legend of the Dark Witch series, and Attack of the Friday Monsters are also some of my favorite eshop games. (Check out Guild01 and Guild02 on wikipedia if you haven't. Compilations of all these popular Japanese devs coming together to make some quirky little games. Japan got a physical version of 1 but we only got separate eshop releases. Attack of the friday monsters is part of that series) I always appreciate your 3DS videos because it helps me stay connected to the console and are kind reminder to myself "Oh, have I given my 3DS some attention recently?" The 3DS will always be the console I feel the most sentimental towards and will be the console I will never part with. Thanks again for your coverage of this special little handheld.
Oh no, I've encouraged others to spend their money on multiple systems and games! I love collecting them and it sounds like you do too. It's good to meet like minded people. I'm glad I was able to play a small part in your gaming life. I will definitely give those game a try. I love discovering new games I've never heard of. I also have a hard time with digital only games. Having an actual game cartridge is nice to have. You actually own a tangible way to play that game on any system. I did however like having A Link Between worlds digitally after redeeming a code with one of My 3DS systems. It was nice having it always on the system without taking up an extra game card slot. I was most likely going to play it again at some point, so having there was really convenient. I did buy the physical version before I got the digital code, so maybe that helped me transition. I still prefer owning physical games and I'll be buying them until they aren't being made anymore. Thank you so much for watching
The Nintendo 3DS line was...okay. I didn't have many games for my 3DS. The only games that I have on my 3DS are Tekken 3D: Prime Edition, Super Street Fighter 4: 3D Edition, Mario Kart 7 and Super Smash Bros. 4. I moved on to my Nintendo Switch Lite and I'm happy.
I bought the Metroid 3DS XL & that console is what got me into collecting video games. Glad I was able to get it when the spotlight was on the switch because I was able to grab some great games physically for it before they became harder to find in stores. Shinobi on the 3DS is a pretty cool console exclusive. Luigi’s Mansion 1 & 2 was nice for me since I didn’t have the Gamecube growing up. 3DS certainly has a special place in my heart too. Wish I had picked up a 2DS console before they become more expensive but I’m thankful for what I have. Great content, keep up the great work. Looking forward to your Wii U video!
That Metroid edition is so awesome! I kick myself all the time for not grabbing it. I had many chances to get it too. I think of it as a learning moment. Shinobi is a great game! As are the Luigi's Mansions. I'm currently working on the Wii U script. I'm hoping to get filming it next week. We'll see how it pans out.
@@NeanderMeander right on! Do you know is there any specific 3ds models that are sure to have IPS screens or is it random? My 3DS isn’t IPS I think because colors fade when viewed from the side.
@@nessentialsunlimited The Hyrule Gold New 3DS XL and the 20th Anniversary Pokemon New 3DS are usually found with them. Though there are instances where they are not. Both of mine do, but it's not guaranteed. I didn't even know it was a thing when I bought them. I got really lucky. My Fire Emblem New 3DS XL has a top TN screen and a bottom IPS panel. It's kind of a bummer.
@@NeanderMeander thanks that’s helpful. It’s really good to keep an eye out for those screens now that we know that Nintendo used the IPS screens in some of them. I have a strong feeling the modding community might be putting IPS in them in the future like they are doing with the GBA but always better to get them straight out of the box that way.
Thanks for watching. The 3DS is a really special piece of hardware that was able to connect with many people. I'm glad you were able to connect with it was well.
It's crazy how much some of the special editions are going for! I bought my SNES edition for $200 brand new. I had no idea it would go up in price so quickly. When I bought it I kind of regretted it because I already had so many of them. I'm happy I did now.
The 3ds is my childhood. I remember when I was four, my cousin gave me his old 3ds and a ton of games. I dropped that thing down a flight of stairs and it came out fine. But I ended up leaving it in the car for to long and it got smoked. I'm now 13 and I've had 3 models of the 3ds and still use them all the time. (Also very high quality video)
Like every system I own, I will NEVER move on from the 3DS! I still bring mine wherever I go most of the time, mainly because the Switch doesn’t fit into my pocket and I’m still looking for people to StreetPass with! (My system got waterlogged in 2019 and Nintendo sent me a replacement and DID NOT transfer the data over, so I have to do Puzzle Swap all over again!) I actually did get 5 StreetPass hits at Comic Con this past October and I have StreetPassed with 2 other people a few times in my area this year! I will be going to Blackpool in June and Hyper Japan in July so if you’re going, I’d love to StreetPass with you! I’ll even download Layton vs Wright before going to Blackpool!
Will always be my favorite handheld line, period. From 2011 to 2023, I will be with this little guy, until the end. And a little sidenote regarding Sonic 2 on Game Gear, I don't know how the freak you actually like that game. All that game did wws piss me off, due to its complete BS in its level design and small screen size, which definitely didn't work with certain levels.
Really wish the community could form a fundraiser to persuade Nintendo to keep the eshop online for an extra year, to 2024. I'm trying to buy up as much digital stuff I can, as well as grabbing some games that might go up in price. Really sucks to see it come to this, but it was bound to happen. I'll be using my 3ds for years to come because the game library is so amazing
I’m so glad Nintendo did the ambassador program. Not because it allowed a select few to download the games but because it opened up homebrewing other titles to be injected into a jailbroken 3DS.
@@NeanderMeander Well, I have been wondering how DKC would look if it was on a more powerful console than the SNES that has a 3D engine, with all characters and assets rendered in real-time (instead of pre-rendered sprited) and with a perspective camera view. @@KingYoshi93 I was thinking it would have the character in the foreground and the backgrounds pushed way back. Something similar to DKC Returns 3D. I just love the way that looks
Got back into my older nintendo systems/handhelds recently. I like them more than my Switch and find a lot of the older titles to be nice to play. Been giving the 3D a second chance and have been loving it. Kind of sad that they are tossing the 3DS aside but all good things come to an end. At least we had a fun good decade of the 3DS
The 3D is great! I pretty much only play with it cranked to the highest setting now. I find 3DS games easier to pick up and get into. I don't know if that's because they were made with the intention of quick handheld game play in mind compared to how the Switch has to also be a home console. Maybe I'm just delusional.
@@NeanderMeander i find the catalog of games for the ds/3ds to be much better than the switch. There are some great games for the switch but the 3ds will always be my home. As for the 3D i feel like low to medium is the sweet spot for me, otherwise it puts too much strain on my eyes.
Awesome video! I have to say you've also inspired me to delve a bit deeper into all the 3DS had to offer. Currently up to 5 systems. They are so enjoyable!
@@NeanderMeander A grey 3DSXL, new from the toy store back in 2012 / 2013, I believe. Second hand 2DSXL black / blue somewhere in 2020. Last year I got a second hand Black New3DS (current favorite). Got Kirby shells recently! This year I got a second hand Blue New3DSXL and thought I was done buying.. Until I spotted an actual NEW Pearl White New3DSXL in the local toy store. So that's 5. Hard to resist.. Not dipped into the special editions. (So far..) Thanks for your reaction and all the effort you put into your videos. Really enjoy them. 👍👌
I just realised I've got 5 3DS systems too.😅 A limited edition white 3DSXL that came with Super Mario 3D Land pre-installed back in 2012; a Pokemon Sun and Moon New 3DSXL (I got it from EB Games thinking it was the regular black one, but when I got there, it was the Pokemon one...(that was good score.😅) I got that one a few years ago. Maybe 2018? Then I picked up a black/blue 2DSXL before they were discontinued. And managed to find 2 more brand new metallic blue New 3DSXLs just after the 3DS was officially discontinued because I knew they'd get harder to find, and I really liked that metallic blue colour. Don't even get me started on the DS systems my siblings gave to me after they no longer wanted them. I've got so many systems haha. I could easily host an 8-player DS Download Play Mario Kart race all by myself.😅
I love my 3ds! We are actively collecting for it and last year I got very lucky and picked up a fantastic lot of games and a 3ds complete in box for a steal of a deal. The loss of the eshop will be felt. It’s too bad that it’s coming to an end 💔

I collected all the limited editions of 3ds / 2ds and I stopped at 2DS XL. they are really something to me, bring back my memory back as a pokemon and mario fan. I wished they could bring some older games to the 3DS (not a virtual console ) but they ...did not. 3DS deserves a better lifespan than what they had.

Awesome story! I've grabbed a few refurbished 3DS's from the Nintendo store too. They all have look brand new. You scored a great deal on that 3DS XL! I second your advice to check out pawn shops. I recently went into one and found a DS Lite in mint condition for $20. The deals are still out there. You just have to keep your eyes open.
great Video! The 3DS Family is a great gaming machine for many Games. But I have to admit that I don't touch anymore my 3DS Consoles because my time is limited to the Switch :/
I frickin love the 3ds! I have a boxed 2ds xl, boxed PokeBall 2ds xl, and a Sun and Moon 3ds xl. The sun and moon 3ds is my main handheld rn. I'ma be buying a lot of digital titles before it closes. Its kinda sad knowing the eShop is going to close tho. I have an R4 card so I can play a bunch of D's and emulate gb, gbc, and gba!
I really hope they incorporate some of it. As great as the Switch is, it hasn't done hardly anything in terms of UI and charm they usually give to their systems. Compared to the 3DS and Wii U, it's quite bland. Let's hope they do a little more for their next console.
It's sad it's going away, alot of fond memories on this console. Also I read supposedly Nintendo is doing a last run of some physical games with the cases being thinner (less plastic) in Europe. Not sure if theyll make it to NA though...
12:27 HOLY CRAP I HAVE THAT 3DS!!! I got it for Christmas 2020 off of eBay at an absolutely amazing price! I also have 4 Swords Anniversary Edition, my mom had got me a used DSi XL several years ago and one of the previous owners had downloaded it during its limited availability and deleted it; I was able to redownload it… I might as well have won the lottery, getting that game. It is now on the aforementioned 3DS XL.
@@NeanderMeander Yep! And, I just remembered, that wasn't the whole story The reason I bought that 3DS was because my other one broke, it was a black New 3DS XL. I had actually originally transferred it to there, but I couldn't transfer it to my new one because it wouldn't boot and therefore I couldn't use the transfer tool. Well, it turns out that once Nintendo swapped the Serial Number attached to my Nintendo Network ID, and I signed into the Zelda 3DS, I was able to re-download it onto the new one. So, I am ridiculously lucky to have that rare little gem of a game.
@@NeanderMeander Oh and btw if you ever decide to play Four Swords Anniversary Edition, be prepared for hell if you decide to take on Hero's Trial. Some tips: 1) DO REALM OF MEMORIES FIRST. By doing so, you will unlock the sword beam at full health, and that will help you immensely. 2) There is a shortcut on the second floor of the second door. Just after the section with bow & arrow cavemen, there is a hidden bombable wall with some bushes nearby… restart the level until you get super lucky and the bushes produce a bomb close enough to where you're actually able to throw it at the wall. That skips, like, 95% of the floor, which is absolute hell to complete normally. 3) CONSERVE YOUR DEATHS FOR THE LAST FLOOR. Dying takes rupees, and the cost increases each time. Do everything you possibly can to conserve deaths for the final floor of each door. 4) On the final floor of each door, restart the level until you get a good set of berries from the bushes. If you don't, you're probably not getting through the floor unless you're a god gamer.
No joke, the only Gameboy game I think that holds up today is Donkey Kong (1994). I honestly cannot stand playing most of the OG library. And keep in mind, I grew up with the original Gameboy (it also happens to be the only gaming system that I donated. The Gameboy was what you played because it’s all we had).
Last year I made the decision to put away my Switch and focus entirely on the 3DS to get through my backlog on that system before finally moving on. I’m still going strong with that quest, and have played some truly fantastic titles that would’ve completely passed me by otherwise. Still lots to go on my backlog though, so until that task is taken care of, the 3DS will continue to be my main system 😁
This is so cool! Most people, including myself at times, only focus on the latest and greatest. It's great to hear that you have decided to focus on a system that really has a gigantic library of amazing games.
Kirby is going to suffer the most from this. Kirby had many eshop exclusive games aswell as the 2 main great Kirby games for the 3ds. This is really gonna suck. Why doesn’t Kirby get love man. Not even special edition consoles or any way of preserving the exclusives. Their was 16 Kirby games on the 3ds
You're right! Those games are going to be unavailable for many people. I don't know why Kirby gets the shaft so often. It's kind of like Donkey Kong. Where are the DK special editions? Probably where they keep the Kirby ones.
Goodmornin fellow German,
Lets be honest, Connecting with others with the 3Ds was the normal way of dealing with things.

I should have brought that up! That's a really good point and something worth knowing!

This is an awesome comment! The 3DS is truly special
my newfound obsession with the 3DS came when the switch was released as my parents gave me and my older brother one switch and since he's always on it, I turned back to my 3DS and later upgraded to a new 2DSXL for my 17th birthday. the news that the eshop would close so soon was upsetting since I have a large wish-list that I was planning on getting when I got a job to expand the storage space and buy my whole wish-list. I really hope most of them get ported to switch.
It would be really great if those games got ports to the Switch. I’m not confident Nintendo will do it, but there’s always hope
That would be awesome! Maybe I'll give them a call
Don't waste your time. Companies don't do that.
You can homebrew so much easier when it closes and get any game and more
I just bought a 3Ds game recently.
I agree! It's a great console for new comers to jump into. I've noticed that prices for them have also started to come down a little.
It would be really something if Nintendo brought it back sometime in the future.
I'm so lucky I got a New 3DS XL in 2020. I got it for $140 including shipping and tax on ebay and now they're selling for an insane $250-300. I love my New 3DS XL but if they were $250+ when I got mine I don't think I would have purchased one.

I recently homebrewed my old 3DS and I have to admit I am spending much more time gaming on it than my switch or other devices. My main jam is fire emblem and the titles on 3DS are just so true to the series.
That's awesome!

It was awesome!
Your opening narrative was just good enough for me, stating how 3DS just woke up that is awesome and any real fan, especially a portable game. We know that that is sacked way to keep the fire burning or passing it into a flame there’s enough for convincing for me to just watch.
Thank you for watching! Sounds like you're a fan of Nintendo's portable consoles. I am too!
Superb editing and music too😭😍Your 3ds collection is nice👍
Thank you so much! I keep all my 3DS consoles in their own cases. So far that's been the key to keeping them scratch free
The DS lite was my first ever Nintendo handheld and I feel like the Wii and DS era is my true safe space in gaming and i always tend to go back to it every now and then
I recently ordered a flare red 3DS off of eBay for a great price to satisfy that inner kid in me that wanted that specific model so badly even though it was the original 3ds and the newer models had more to offer, that one stood out to me. Likely because my first DS was the shiny Red DS lite
I also bought a misty pink 3DS for my mom, we used to love battling it out in New Super Mario Bros' Mario versus Luigi mode
Thanks for sharing. That Flare Red 3DS is really good looking. From what I've seen, it isn't all that common. The Flame Red is everywhere. That's the color I have.

Wow! Thanks for stopping by, watching some videos, and commenting. It really means a lot to this small time video maker
Even with all that, I'm glad I still have mine and will never part with it
Thanks for sharing. I love hearing personal stories like these
How in the heck did Omega Ruby brick your 3DS??
Attack of the friday monsters is part of that series)
I always appreciate your 3DS videos because it helps me stay connected to the console and are kind reminder to myself "Oh, have I given my 3DS some attention recently?" The 3DS will always be the console I feel the most sentimental towards and will be the console I will never part with.
Attack of the Friday Monsters is a good game.
It's actually a crime that you aren't getting millions of views. Most underrated channel I've ever seen.

Yeah, I thought it was a good take. Some have said it's not as alive as it once was, which I agree with.

Best intro I’ve seen in a long time (on youtube ever)
That makes me happy that you liked it. The 3DS means a lot to me. I hope the video portrayed how great it is
That SNES edition 3ds is sooooo expensive these days. In 2017, I remember seeing them for 300 bucks… now it’s around 500 to 600
It's crazy how much some of the special editions are going for!
That’s crazy! They are quality consoles. Which models do you have?
Just the black 3ds xl and the white and orange new 2ds xl.

I’d say you could chalk it up to nostalgia. I love it! I was never all that great at it and never got that far, but I love it anyway

I had a chance to get one of those and I passed it up. I totally regret it now! That's great you got one!
I’m so glad Nintendo did the ambassador program. Not because it allowed a select few to download the games but because it opened up homebrewing other titles to be injected into a jailbroken 3DS.
Very true!
Those 3D Classics were pretty awesome! I was hoping you'd mention them. Nintendo doesn't really make these ambitious kind of remakes, do they?
They really are awesome! I never understood why they didn't make more. Can you imagine a DKC or Mario World in that style?
@@NeanderMeander Well, I have been wondering how DKC would look if it was on a more powerful console than the SNES that has a 3D engine, with all characters and assets rendered in real-time (instead of pre-rendered sprited) and with a perspective camera view. I'm not sure how to imagine Super Mario World in that 3D Classics style. Did you have something in mind?

The 3DS Family is a great gaming machine for many Games.
But I have to admit that I don't touch anymore my 3DS Consoles because my time is limited to the Switch :/
Time is always so short. It's definitely difficult to find time for both.

Looks like you're setup for the future
One can hope and dream, but the Switch 2 to encompass all the good things the Switch and 3DS were providing, might be a dream come true.

The reason I bought that 3DS was because my other one broke, it was a black New 3DS XL. I had actually originally transferred it to there, but I couldn't transfer it to my new one because it wouldn't boot and therefore I couldn't use the transfer tool.
I had a hard time going back to them as well. The controls are tough to get used to. But I've come to appreciate them for what they are.
@@NeanderMeander Totally respect that. And I wish I had more tolerance for that library. But boy are those games rough, lol.
i actually starting playing 3ds at school with my 2 firends and at home i managed to play mario kart ds with 4 ds's, im still enjoying my 3ds
Awesome! I’ve only played a small part of Mario Kart DS. It was really fun!
One reason why I say it’s dead it’s not because the Eshop it’s because i rarely get street/spot pass and the closing of miiverse notesswap ect
Yeah, that's true that those things were fun. But I think there's still a crazy amount of interest in the console aside from Street and spot pass.
The 3DS was and still is a great console.
The start was a bit bumpy because there was a big lack of games, but overall it was realy enjoyable.
It was very bumpy in the beginning. I remember it vividly. I'm glad Nintendo pulled it together
Excellent video. Gonna miss the eshop download screen…
I love that screen with the sound effect!
Kirby is up their with link and Mario yet they get special edition consoles and Kirby gets treated like crap.
