Have you never taken a job that you actually liked and when you finish and its your last day you look back as you leave and all the memories and realizations you made there become vivid for a moment? Well something similar happens here, some of these singers know perhaps this is the last time they will perform this role before they are too old, but that experience and strength of spirit drives her to perform this much better than anyone could, so that tear at the end could be a last farewell,a realization of a good job done singing that aria, an expression of the soul...or perhaps all those things combined in one homogeneous expression of showmanship
She deserves all the applause
Dessay has also said that she tried to do each performance as if it was her last (in a "you could be dead tomorrow" kind of sentiment) which'd motivate her to do each performance to the best of her abilities. I think she said it in the mini-documentary "Lucia à Paris" which is on youtube, she might have also said it in other interviews as well.

I love this part of the production with Nathalie Dessay singing over the orchestra pit. It is an imaginative way of helping the audience to feel the suspense of her sleepwalking .

This was a surprisingly thoughtful and convincing production of Sonnambula and the only one I have ever seen live. Florez and Dessay were prefectly matched in these roles.

She puts tensions in her voice here and there, not a complete free sound. She might get all dynamics right, but there is not much beauty in her phrasing.
Acting wise...not something I care about in an opera
And of course she has Mic. Too airy, constricted and intonation si not good sometimes.

2 mi ricordo ancora come le mie amiche e colleghe soprani negli anni 1958-68 interpretavano la meravigliosa musica di Bellini !...
3 Dessay e' una dilettante pura per me che conosce poco i stili d'interpretazione diversi e di più cantonava durante anni con una tecnica vocale scarsa in un modo poco professionale aiutata spesso dai microfoni 🎙️.
4 sono testimone vivo che negli anni 1958-68 la stessa Natalie Dessay non poteva entrare in un coro con la sua vocalità dilettantesca .
5 il fatto che questa ragazzina e' la tua dea non ti dà automaticamente il patente degli insulti gratuiti...
per questa ragione scendendo al tuo livello ti dico che da questo momento in poi non avrai mai più l'onore di una risposta della parte mia.
sei un dilettante frustrato e maleducato, e' un fatto !
e l'avvenire sarà la prova di queste parole mie .
ritorna alla scuola per insegnarti le buone maniere .

This was excellent, but I'm sorry - the sopranos performance doesn't even come close to Cecilia Bartoli's. If you haven't heard it on her Sospiri album, totally worth the listen.
