  • I believe Christian Bale gave a genuine apology on the KROQ "The Kevin and Bean Show." In his first public appearance since his blow-up, Christian Bale apologizes to the world. I think he really was sorry.

Sounds legit, sincere, and from the heart. I don't see the big deal that everyone's making. We all have our bad moments when we work on a job or a project, and later on we apologize, admit we're wrong, and move on. I don't see how this has to be any different.

Well, if you do not happen to be a famous actor, it is quite likely that you will lose your job for such a rant. "Having Bad Moments" does not nearly justify such childish, overly aggressive insult sprees. Plus, he was even about to attack that guy.
You cannot just brush off every severe lack of professionalism as "bad moment" and then move on. People lose jobs for such behaviour. Imagine the DP yelling like this at Bale. You think he would have kept his job after that?
      Not bloody likely.

I wanna think it was some "artist" just making a film, but seriously, we all go through shit in life, but we all have to keep our head about us. If the lighting guy made a mistake, reset, have a word or two, and then proceed on. It sucks because it ruins what this guy brings to other roles... batman? Was he constantly being a douche to everyone on set because he is Christian Bale? The guy has millions more than ANY of us have in the bank... wouldnt that be enough to keep a calm head knowing he wont ever have to worry about making rent or paying for a horrible surgery? I wish I could make a fuss about that sort of thing, but, I'm fighting with workmans comp just to get my leg fixed and keep a job so I can have a living wage... it's all perspective. people tempt to forget that he is also a human like us. man, we all loose our patience in life. Some can handle it with ease, others freak out. and you need to put yourself into the situation: he has been working all day, he wanted the scene to be perfect, he's dedicated to his work, he was maybe already upset with something, we never know, ... so when I heard the footage, I wasn't shocked or anything. because yeah, he expressed his frustration, his disappointment and that happens everywhere to everyone. let's not use the footage as a an excuse to judge him and say that he is pretentious and he thinks that he's better than others. no he was just mad, that's it. and some of you will say 'yeah but that's not a reason to swear and to disrespect the guy' he maybe swore and things but obviously he didn't ment that, like that logical. and we don't live with him, we don't know his personality, we just see him playing roles. but other than that, I think Christian Bale is an amazing actor, he's really talented and this kind of incident must not affect the way people think about him. That one incident doesn't define him you know. try to think more openly and not just base yourself on one factor

It's unfortunate that it was taped? Are you kidding? If it wasn't he probably would have forgot about it or not be inclined to apologize to begin with. Bale wasn't the one who made a human mistake, the guy walking in on the scene did.
I've had a boss that did what Bale did here on a daily basis. In fact I had to go to counseling after I quit because of it.
She'd attack me for the stupidest shit, like not wrapping a sandwhich properly or improperly marking a lettuce pan. Calling me names and telling me I was worthless despite me trying to do my best. The sandwhich thing was on day one, and the lettuce event was a week afterwards. It wasn't just me either, she attacked some of the front end women and other fry cooks for messing up orders or sending out the wrong stuff, and not just like letting us know we fucked up or something. Full blown attacking us and threatening to take money off of our paychecks, in fact she did whenever we cooked too many chicken nuggets.
When I requested fewer hours or gave her notice (during the interview that I could not work on certain days, she still put me on those days) she would make sly smug comments about how she had to work her ass off just to keep the place open.
I'd like to hear from the guy Bale attacked on set before I trust the word of some pompous actor who clearly isn't above attacking his own staff. Even if it was a one time thing and Bale apologized.

I don't buy his explanation.. 'Jared Leto method acting' - it all just comes off as movie stardom. "You don't know what it's like being around actors, that's what it is. I'm TELLING you!"
I mean I get the DP might have been distracting, that's a reasonable bitch, but they all got a job to do. And the actor ends up looking good. If the lighting sucks the 'movie star' would bitch even harder lol.

See, kids? THIS is how you legitimately apologize - none of this "sorry you feel that way" crap. That's just stroking your own bruised ego, without actual regret for your mistakes, on your behalf...and you're not even really sorry for them in the first place, anyway, with that attitude - it's completely dishonest. Instead of humbling oneself, "sorry you feel that way" is just a means for the person to continue in arrogance, while being wilfully ignorant, refusing to learn from their mistakes. As if, at all costs, that person must always be right - they can never be wrong. It's quite a sad reality that we live in, in this modern day, where we actually have to explain this stuff to people. I would say, that the world has indeed, "lost its youth."
