I'm a private pilot that's been looking at experimental category for an affordable way to fly. I'm used to having a six pack, two radios, and an in-panel GPS, so I appreciate the reference your channel offers and this video in particular. Also major agree on the radios. Nothing (short of an engine failure, maybe, but I have been blessed to not find out) saps my joy flying and replaces it with worry quite like little or no reception. In fact the lousy radio antennas I've found so many rental airplanes to be cursed with is the biggest factor pushing me toward independent ownership right now. I am sick to death of not quite hearing something important. To people considering radios: not having a radio is way, way scarier than figuring out how to talk on one. Direct concerns of safety and pattern etiquette aside, how much fun you can have flying is directly related to how good your situational awareness is and how confident you are in it. If you don't know exactly what's going on around you, all you will have time to think about is what that might be and what you can do about it. A good radio is the difference between stressful flying and relaxing flying.
@decofox6789 I promise you when you have engine failure you realize it's not the biggest problem and you look at it differently! I fly fields so if my route is heavy on trees I just create a plan around it! I no longer worry about it because I know my plane glides awesome and I can land on a dime if need be!
I had 2 issues this past weekend flying out of KBXK, Buckeye AZ. Issue 1. Flying a Challenger II with my cfi, I took off runway 35 and stayed in the pattern for some touch and go's. As I announced turning left base another plane stopped at the hold short line. As I announced turning short final, the other plane took the runway. Knowing that the only other plane in the pattern had just announced turning left downwind, I knew I had enough separation so just did a quick 360 to delay my final. When on the next downwind I heard the other planes report a small plane in the pattern not on frequency or without a radio. Must be me. Left the area to sort this out. Radio on, check. Correct frequency, check, TX showing, No. Responses to radio check request, crickets. Carefully got back into the pattern and back to the hanger . Swapped radios and all was good to go. Issue 2. Just before turning crosswind, another plane announced 3 miles out for runway 17. I quickly announced left crosswind for runway 35, then downwind for 35. 2nd plane came back on the radio and announce change to 35. If we were still flying without radio communication, there would have been a conflict in runway choices.
Just to note - those portable ADS-B -In devices like the Stratus, Stratux, etc, will not give you a full picture of traffic without ADS-B Out, and also other traffic may not detect you either.
@@TheJonjonj I wonder if they still teach manual navigation, with sectional charts and the E6-B...That was a pain in the butt for a while for me, then all of a sudden, it clicked and it was no big deal...LOL.
I'm sorry about that I hope this video answers some of that. I remember the comment and I thought I answered it so I apologize! If there is anything else you want to see let me know!
I just look and I don’t see it Sometimes that happens I have had that issue in my channel weird But I was interested to know about your antenna and how you connected to the jeasu ? Maybe you can reply here if impossible thanks
You have got to be shitting me!! Kingman, Az. Holy shit so did I. For many years back in the early 2000's. I also lived in Parker where I graduated from. then moved to Lake Havasu City. So glad I don't in that place anymore. To red for me. The plane you have is cool, but you are limited by fuel as to how far you can fly. Aren't you just flying the same route every time you go flying? You have mentioned before about the amount of fuel you can carry, but I have seen these planes with external fuel tanks attached to the wing cross struts.
Going into the Bravo??? What???? Planning on heading to JFK in your puddle jumper? Most controlled airports are Class C or D. If you're in a Class B, in a tiny plane ATC will probably tell you to get out!
@emu-5493 I'm just focusing on getting my cfi so it is by choice! I'm trying to build this channel and just make aviation my life! Not easy but I'm trying!
Nice work,,useful knowledge

This is what I’ve been needing. Thank you My Guy!
Thanks man.👍
@wavewaker2 no problem thanks for watching
Great video
Thank you for watching!
Left Crosswind!! 😂😂😂 awesome video. Can’t wait till I get back to my plane. You need to fly closer to sunset. The air is more calm.
@@thecottonpatch80 did you hear something I didn't? Lol
I think price came down on Stratus. $350 for internal GPS and battery pack and a little more for external GPS.
On my pilot store they are $749 that's just the one I have the stratus 3 obviously there are multiple options this is just what I ended up with!

Wow that sounds like an interesting day 😆 I'm glad things worked out safely! Thank you for sharing this story!

you would like flying in Montana, mountain's up to 8,000 ft
And it's so beautiful!
i have a PJ2+ handheld
@joeyturner9687 that's a great radio too!

Sorry you are out of pocket. Hope 'unemployed'' is a special case and not the typical bareassed & hungry situation.
