Very sad story, we hear time and again. Domestic violence is still a huge issue now. Although it is frustrating that the jury felt that he was provoked in to killing his poor wife when it was all in his own head.

I am glad the judge saw that as no excuse to murder her! 😱 Thank you for the fascinating vids, Paul.. always a special treat seeing you out and about on location and relating these harrowing tales in your usual compassionate way (and with that lovely Scottish lilt 🏴)
It was nice to hear that the judge had what might be considered an enlightened view at the time; that the wife has the right to refuse to associate with her husband if she chooses to.
Charles Wooldridge clearly didn’t love his wife. He just wanted to own her. Just like all those other despicable men who murdered their wife because she rejected him.
Exactly, a narcissistic prick is what he was. He felt his ego was being damaged even though it wasn't he's the only one to hurt his own ego. Ellen was so young and she was so scared, poor girl 😔💔
Women and men alike can react in an extremely exaggerated manner when they are rejected. It's really really hard to talk someone through those emotions even if you know them well. Infact I have found the best option to be distraction like with a toddler, only that never deals with the issue and then the next lover and the next lover and so on have to deal with the immature emotional reaction, unless of course you are there to carry their wheelbarrow of shite for them.
"For each man kills the thing he loves, Yet each man does not die" I've always loved Oscar Wilde( to the point I had a Gray cat named Dorian) and this line from Reading Gaol is one of my favorites of all time for how true it is of life. Thanks to you I've learnt a lot more about the area around Reading and surrounding villages. I live in a small village not to far from Reading. Coincidentally I used to work in the SSE building opposite Reading Gaol. The Gaol is currently up for sale and there is a push to turn it into a museum dedicated to Wilde/arts centre. At the moment it's disused and empty.
Love your channel. One of my favourite poems is Ballad of Reading Gaol. Oscar Wilde is a kindred spirit. Thank you. Love from Australia. 🇦🇺❤️✌️ As Oscar said in his poem, “I never saw a man who looked so wistfully at the day.” 🥺
Simply adore your story presentations.... even though the subject matter usually contains gruesomeness ! keep on keepin' on, Sir !!!! (anyone else notice how oscar wilde favors cameron crowe in appearance ?)
I really love your channel might you cover south African farm murders since I'm south African and I live on a farm and my grandmother's sister was sadly killed a very long time ago I don't know much about the murder and it would be interesting if you could cover the topic of farm murders hope your channel does well!

New 2 your channel, and am absolutely thrilled! I find your topics riveting and could listen to u all day. I especially enjoy how respectable u r of the victims, not like some other channels that sound like cheap gossip. Well done, sir. Big fan😁👍

I really like Mr. Brodie and all his videos. Almost everything is new for me and is a delight to learn from his work. Thank you!! Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Thank you for all these hidden stories that I would have never known about. You're awesome and I appreciate the research you must have to do for them.
Thank you for your kind comment and donation, Pumaa!
I love that you go out on location. Adds so much.
I'm al-ways expecting to see some "Monty Python"-characters - goose-stepping past him.
Well I Never! I love stories from the Victorian era. Great video as always!
Another fantastic video! Big fan of your channel 💕
Hello from Portugal 🇵🇹 maybe the best video so far. Congratulations on the excelent work.
Phenomenal yet again. You never fail to keep my interest
I really love your channel might you cover south African farm murders since I'm south African and I live on a farm and my grandmother's sister was sadly killed a very long time ago I don't know much about the murder and it would be interesting if you could cover the topic of farm murders hope your channel does well!
So happy I fell upon this channel!

You are a great storyteller that truly holds an audience. A fan and new subscriber!
Paul, I continue to be impressed and amazed at the quality of your content and videos :) Keep up the great work!!!!
I've always loved the channel, but now that u take the narrative and go places with it, it just makes the videos even better than they were before. I'm embarrassingly admitting I'm addicted to the channel. I look forward to the next upload!!! 🙂
Kind of repulsive that Wilde should dedicate his most famous poem to a brutal murderer.
Sir, I adore your voice. I hope you will consider doing some more recordings of just reading poetry.
I absolutely love this channel!
I really enjoyed this video! Definitely intriguing!! Much respect from Canada! 👍🏾

"For each man kills the thing he loves, yet each man does not die"
Yeah, lol cuz it's usually the woman who dies
Domestic violence in a nutshell.
How many times does a woman get to hit me before I can slug her.(and don't tell me to walk away).
I'll wait.
You're well on your way to big success. I love the production and formatting of your videos. and I have already recommended you to my friends.
Thank you so much for showing us the places ♡
I first read the poem when I was in high school. I had no idea that it was true!
