What I find inspiring from this ending, is that Che fought in the Cuban Revolution, not because he believed in the Castros, but because he believed in the Communist Revolution. Which is why after Che could've become a comfortable Cuban citizen- he chose instead to give his life for the spreading of the Communist cause. Very interesting...

Indeed, in fact the time he spent as minister of foreign relations and president of the national bank of Cuba (before he went to Congo to help with their revolution) he wanted to receive the same salary that the average Cuban had at the time. The man died as a martyr for equality, its just that the CIA completely twisted the image Americans have of him.

Sad ending for a unique man. Guevara fascinates me. Like T.E. Lawrence or George S. Patton he was that rarity: an intellectual man of action. Like them he put his beliefs to the test and his life on the line. Who does that now? One of the most interesting things about Che was how an individual as capable and intelligent as Che favored a societal system that protects individuals from exploitation on a macro sense. What the U.S. was doing economically in Latin America still goes on today all over the world and within the U.S.' own borders to a certain extent: unfair trade practices and a plutocratic establishment seeking to grow their own financial footing at the expense of poor laborers. Instead of coups, we use NAFTA.

Thus, I believe it still to be a communist's job to help end fascism, but instead of purges, it is to be done with commpassionate and respectful communication. For example, we constantly use the slogan of "Liberty, Equality, and Brotherhood"... But what point is that motto... if we can't even commit to it with undiluted dedication? The way that we gain equality is by treating everyone, even our enemies, the same way we would treat our comrades.

How ironic that his own method of indiscriminate execution would be used against him.

FYI that long-repated claim of his executioner role at El Cabana has been factually, authoritatively refuted many times. And as a pacifist I'm no Che apologist either.
