    Been using kn filters for 20 years this year.. Always been my first purchase when I get a new vehicle.. I've seen reviews stating they can be bad or not filter as good.. But I haven't seen anything in my oil samples that would suggest excess dirt is getting into the pistons and oil.. And my vehicles have gone 300k miles no issue.. I clean pretty often since I live in dusty west Texas usually twice a year.

    I have used K&N filters on my LPG powered Subaru and Mercedes 6 Cylinder engines for over 18 years, they totally kill the stuttering caused by LPG, at traffic lights and give a cleaner burn.
    Just to calm my nerves, I have always used the foam pre-filters an all vehicles.
    Just changing the ones on my Viano and S-Class , the Pre- Filters are worth their weight in Gold, after 60,000 miles the filter itself has very little dirt or wear on them.
    Highly recommend their use.
    PS, Thanks K&N for totally curing the LPG stutter. I will use nothing else.

    How long after spraying would you recommend to wait before installing back in the vehicle? Also, would you recommend leaving it oil side up or down during that time?

    • @KNfilters
      @KNfilters  Год назад +26

      You want to wait until the oil wicks into the material and creates a consistent color across the entire filter (it should be salmon red). The direction you set the filter to wick is not as important... however we recommend placing the oiled side up so that oil does not drip onto the ground and instead absorbs into the filter. Ive had on in my V8 Landrover for 25,000 miles just checked it and it was not too bad. Swapped in the Factory filter Ill clean it later and swap again in 25k I think they let more dust in vs factory though. They breath more air yes but not sure if they filter as well as good ole paper.

      @maliquewilliams86 17 дней назад

      Nice try paper corp

    • @Physics072
      @Physics072 16 дней назад

      @@maliquewilliams86 What does paper corp mean? the KN lets in maybe more air but if you look close its going also let in some more dust. When I bought it and looked at it closely the pores were very large which yes lets more air in. I swapped to paper (ill clean the KN) and noticed no change in performance.
      While K&N filters are designed to allow more airflow than standard paper filters, the claim that they "let in more dust" is generally considered not entirely accurate; K&N filters are designed to trap dust particles through a "depth loading" mechanism, allowing them to hold more dirt than paper filters while still maintaining a high level of filtration, though some argue that in certain situations, especially with heavy dust exposure, a small amount of additional dust might pass through compared to a standard disposable filter.
      Key points about K&N filters and dust:
      Depth loading vs surface loading:
      Unlike standard paper filters which rely on surface loading (dust only collects on the surface), K&N filters use multiple layers of cotton fibers to trap dust throughout the filter's depth, enabling them to hold more dirt before needing cleaning.
      Maintenance is crucial:
      To maintain proper filtration, K&N filters need to be regularly cleaned and re-oiled according to manufacturer instructions.
      Potential concerns:
      Oil buildup: In some vehicles, excessive oil from the filter can contaminate mass airflow sensors.
      Extreme dust environments: In very dusty conditions, even with proper maintenance, a small amount of additional dust might pass through a K&N filter compared to a standard paper filter.

      When the red color turns gray it’s time to clean and re oil.
      Mine needs recharging more often than most, it is an open breather on a Harley Davidson so it is in the environment more than in an air box on a car or truck. Don’t let it get too dirty before cleaning and oiling.

    I have seen a billion times to only oil the dirty side. Why doesn’t KN specify this in the instructions or in a video? It would avoid all these questions

      They did specify it by saying oil the dirty side. Same as they said wash from the clean side and suddenly everyone understood that you dont have to wash from dirty side. People just have low IQ

      So what I’ve noticed from oiling only the dirty side, is that if you properly coat the dirty side with a uniform red as it states, it’ll wick onto the other side and create that nice light red color. So technically speaking, the oil is on both sides but you don’t NEED to oil the clean side since it’ll seep right through anyways. Just don’t over oil it to the point that it’s dripping.
