Just remember, if you use an after market filter it likely won't say "UP" on it. It will say "air flow" instead in which case the arrow should point down.
@@user-ho1ih1uj6w Air flow is down. Dirty air comes in from the top and gets filtered before entering the blower which is mounted directly below the filter. That's why dirt collect on top of the filter. It's not rocket science.
Looks simple and easy thanks. My dealerships wants to charge me 120 dollars to change that out. I think I can do it myself. Just didnt know where to start. Thanks to your video I can handle this. Thanks again
In fact, I can almost promise you that various papers, insurance cards, pieces of flotsam and flotsam, and maybe, even some lose change and a dollar or two will collect in this container unless you replace the filter yourself.
To make your car smell good, buy one of those whole house scented filter for the furnace cut it in half and put it in your cabin filter, car will smell good for along time
Your filter probably actually wasn’t all that dirty. I got pissed when i got my car back from service today, 2018 camry xse. as I opened up the glove box, and removed the filter to make sure they changed it. It looked dark like yours did. Then i noticed both sides looked that way. Generally only one side will be dirty. Then i looked on my service ticket. “part number 87139-YZZ 37. It is an activated charcoal filter. The 28020 is what was used on previous years I believe, and is white as you showed. However, if you Google the 87139-YZZ37, there are pictures of it in sealed factory bags, and other mfgs as well, where it looks like yours did brand new. It’s just the activated charcoal making it uniformly dark. If yours hadn’t been changed in 24,000 miles, i’m sure it was due, but just wanted to make you aware that the reason yours looked so white was because that’s actually not the correct filter, but it fits, and will work fine i’d imagine
You're correct that it was a charcoal filter, which, of course, is darker than the white one, but, if you looked a little more closely, you'll have noticed brown streaks throughout the old cabin filter, indicating where dirt had made its mark. Generally speaking, if you hold up an air or cabin filter to the light, and you can see the light shine through it (not the light, itself, of course!), then it's "okay". If you see pin holes, tears, scorch marks, or it's over 5,000 miles old (cabin filter) or 10,000 miles old (air filter), then it's a good idea to replace it. Generally speaking (again!) that means about once a year; if you drive the car hard or you go through dusty/dirty areas, then, you may need to change them more often.
Something this simple and in less than five minutes. Toyota wants to charge me $72 for parts and labor... I'm going to O'Reilly and purchase the filter and replace it myself save myself $40.
Thanks. I do not have the hybrid, but I am displeased with my 2018 Camry. I have tiny rust spots of the rear trunk lid near the license plate area. Plus the metal edging that is around all the windows is GARBAGE as well. Cheap shit lol The interior is basically all junk plastic. I have already put 78,000 miles on it. Thanks for allowing me to vent and thanks for the video
@@BeKindNotMean LOL, not yet, but I noticed they were getting loose and had them tightened up. I drive the car, but someone else owns it and pretty soon I won't be driving it anymore (thank God) I am looking to buy an older Toyota Corolla :-)
I notice that my camry has another problem as rattle. It has rattle sound so bad when driving, it comes from dash, pano roof and side driver's mirror when closing. Disappointed
Very useful and super simple tricks to change the filter. I have a 2020 Avalon which has similar filter elements but a different part number. I was able to do this without any guesses and saved about $30 from a dealer
Thanks for making such a helpful video. It really helped me to save some money. I have no idea how to do these simple things. I hope to see more useful videos from you. Definitely, it will help me to save some money and time from blood-sucking Toyota dealers. Thank you again.
I purchased one of these OEM filters 2 years ago and never ended up installing it. I look at it now and has turned dark grey just sitting in my garage. Seems a little suspicious.
very helpful. only 1 suggestion; zooming in on the clips that need to be undone might be helpful but very happy that I can save a pile of $$$ for a simple task. thanks for the help
Any suggestions on how to prevent debris from falling into the blower below when removing the cabin air filter? I replaced my cabin air filter once and started getting a whistle sound when I had my AC on high. Dealer told me some debris had fallen into the blower. Nervous to replace it again myself as it may end up costing me more if debris fall in again. Any suggestions or have heard of this issue happening before?
I do most all of my own maintenance as well, but Toyota gives 2 years of free maintenance (which doesn’t amount to much), but it does include oil changes, tire rotations, and cabin filters once a year, so i’m sitting in the dealer while they do my last yearly service. I guess you didn’t want to sit and wait? I’ve done my own oil changes at 5,000 miles, and let them do the 10
After seeing the before and after filter, a cabin filter is something I wish my old Toyota had, not just for minimizing exhaust fumes, but to help protect the lungs.
Don't you suppose to take your car to the dealer every 5K miles for service? And if you don't the warranty is voided? I got a 2019 and every 10K they replace the cabin air filter for free.
In the USA they can't void your warranty for not having it serviced by the dealer. You can have the maintenance work done by any mechanics of do it yourself. Just save receipts and keep records.
@@njsongwriter yes I agree. I read that doing maintenance yourself doesn’t necessarily void your warranty. I believe that’s in the owners manual. I agree on keeping receipts as records.

Ok but what size is the filter . For under the hood and in the glove box?
The filter size is unknown. When I got my filters, I gave the year, model and trim at my dealership and they gave me the appropriate sized filter.
