In the US in 2020 I purchased a 2002 Tundra at an auction for $2k, and took it to a Toyota dealer. I was told the frame replacement recall expired. Toyota has a customer service phone number and website you can contact to voice a complaint. I did this regarding a Camry engine belt tensioner that broke while the dealer was replacing the fan belt. The dealer told me, sorry, you gotta' pay for a new tensioner. I called Toyota to complain that it was the dealer's fault, not mine. Toyota agreed and reimbursed me for the cost of the new tensioner. This intermediate shaft issue may be a case where it'd be a good idea to contact Toyota.

When radial tires first came out they were excellent, in the 70's, 80's and 90's we never needed snows, and I live in snow country. After using bias ply snow tires for years these new radials were amazing. In my opinion the advent of stiff, wide, low profile tires has made the newer all season tires useless in snow and ice. Just my opinion based on lots of driving experience.

Put sandbangs in the rear seats and the trunk (I put 2 - 70 lb sandbags behind the front seats, and 2 more in the trunk over the rear axle. Doesn't seem to impact fuel economy that much (lost maybe 2mpg). I found this to be as effective in most cases as having winter tires (and I don't have to pay for an extra set of tires). I like in the mid-west by the way so we get plenty of snow and ice. The only ONE place I sometimes have issues is when ice builds up at the end of my driveway but I don't think snow tires would help that anyway. Plus I'm still running the OEM tires on mine (although they will be replaced with better ones this coming December).

I forget now what the issue was, but something failed/broke that cost me $1200 to repair. And it also had a squeak near the back window since new that they could never fix. So after the $1200 repair on a 2-year old car, I traded for... a Chrysler. I drove that Chrysler for 175K and never had any issues whatsoever. I traded it for another Chrysler and had no issues for 150K miles. I only left Chrysler (for Honda) because they stopped making a model that suited my needs.

Here in Quebec Canada it’s the law to have 4 snow tires from Dec.15 th to march. 15 th. Most including myself have seperate steel rims for our 4 snow tires , and our summer tires on the mag rims. The winter tires are softer rubber wear faster above 7 degrees Celsius or approx 44 f. Some have studded tires but those are illegal. Also having snow tires on 5 months a year prolongs the life of your summer tires . I also get my car oil sprayed every fall for rust prevention. It’s a mineral oil sprayed under car chassis, under hood , drill a hole in door and spray inside all doors and truck lids , bumpers. Metropolitian rustproofing here in Montreal area.

Toyota declined to pay for the repair of my sisters 2018 Prius that had the leaking heat exchanger. The dealer wanted to replace the head gasket or the entire engine. There was a warranty TSB for the heat exchanger but it stopped at 80k miles, she was 7k over.

My Highlander has been as reliable as a hammer and has just over 380,000 miles on it. I bought it in 2007 with 11,000 miles on it. She vibrates like a Maytag compared to the hybrid but that's it. Love Toyotas build quality and am staying with the brand for now.

He knew the warranty when he bought the car, and yet he drove the hell out of it. Even if this "known defect" had been "secretly" warrantied by a Technical Service Bulletin, it would unlikely had extended coverage past 100k, so he still would have been charged. If he couldn't live the standard warranty, he should have purchased an extended one from either the dealer or a third party.

Thank you Scotty. Buying steel wheels from junk yards to mount snow tires is an excellent idea. Been doing this for forty years. Every time the wheels are delivered the manufactures papers are still attached. The yard buys the wheels directly from the factory, when the manufacturer overproduces and sells them in lots. Brand new wheels for junk yard price.
