I want this played at my funeral -- then the pallbearers can carry me out to the rockin' part. Dancing bears and midgets and shit. Laser light shows. BEST FUNERAL EVER.
The soprano is Phyllis Bryn Julson who went on to become one of the foremost singers of contemporary music. I love the section at 2:00 on...."every poor soul who's adrift in the storm" (profound) followed by the hope that we all get some action. Oh my- what would that reference mean???? Also love every 16th note the percussionists play.
No Doubt- Frank probably knew who he wanted- "get me the real "guys"". And, she nailed it. I heard her sing Varese at the Peabody Inst. in Baltimore ( where she taught). She was amazing.
‘God help the winos, the junkies and the weirdos’ shows Zappa’s compassion for those who don’t fit in, and the music is heartfelt (for Frank) and beautifully arranged.
200 Motels is now available on DVD at Walmart of all places. You have to order online. My cost was about $21.00 with shipping. Slightly grainy when viewed on a big screen but good sound quality. No subtitles or captions.
My fave is from Orchestral Favorites because of one particular horn part...you know, after the lyrics that say "With a microwave oven. honey, how do it feel?"
This is such a gorgeous composition. Check out the '82 band's take on You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore Vol. 6 - it really stands out as an orchestral accomplishment.

It is not only a satire on the sixties generation. That would be too confining in defining this movie, if there is anything like defining Franks work. It is an upright attempt to redefine freedom in its fullest sense. In order to obtain total souvereignity over oneself, on other words complete freedom, one must shake off society-based presumptions and images of expectations, ideas, stereotypes. That is only possible by pulling utmost consequences from the deviation which procurs progess/freedom
@boomaga I dunno about remastering it, but if someone wanted to re-edit the movie, they probably could (with a more precise program like Adobe Premiere)... I've considering doing so, to see if it can be put in a more logical order. Putting the Rance Muhammitz stuff in a logical sequence, for instance - instead of him changing clothes and locations with every shot.
I regret that that the OST replaces the lovely soprano harmonies with the sped-up vocal overdubs... In the "Making of..." it's revealed that the original video tape with all that unused footage was bulk erased and sold as used stock by the producer, recovering every bit of $4k of the $679k budget - imagine being able to recut this movie on Avid, being able to clean up the video noise, color correction, and a proper transfer & audio remastering... just not gonna happen... *sigh*

Dead yet?
One of the great melodies of the 20th century.
totally underrated - absolutely wonderful music
I love the look on Bickel's face when he realizes that the song doesn't end after the first 3 minutes. This is so great.

When I stare at it longer I feel like he's saying good luck, karma, wisdom ect ect BCS there's no place for people like that in "the great society".
@@ayuh8911 exactly, Frank was always on the side of the Freaks

@aquasloth That would indeed rule.
I would think Julson is here because she was a foremost singer of Varese?
Oh yeah, I didn't notice that until now, hah. Thanks.
unfortunately there are no multitracks for this movie. this is live audio with a few overdubs

has anybody uploaded the provocative squats segment?
The modernized version of the lyrics, I think, would be, "Lord have mery on the Fangirls and Emos..."
13 years later it’s the Egirls and Fanmous
Save the black man!

Jesus
Hey, isn't that Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) at 3:33???????
Dweezel should mount a Broadway production, then we can get a digital mix of the score....
It's spelled Dweezil.
'save the black man' hahhaahhahahhahahahahhahahaa
that is so funny
@andywells2
If Dweezil is taking anything to Broadway, it should be Thing-Fish.
still damp what can I say about this elixar the art work on the album is beautiful frank rules music is the best (just not nowadays)
TRUTH BE TOLD . Flo & Eddie saved that dreadful movie. No, I am wrong. It totally SUCKED.
hopefully one day you'll get some action
some love on the weekend, some real satisfaction
It was far from dreadful and contained some of Frank's best music.
Michael Sinclair No, don't listen Jeff.
I was only in it for the music, which was wonderful, albeit poorly recorded.
