This Steve VS Tony makes complete sense if you watch at their respective movie franchises. Tony’s movies are about him making a mistake and then having to atone for it, while Cap’s movies are about Steve fighting an oppressive and powerful group of people (Hydra/Shield). In Cap’s movies, he’s always right and the opposing side is wrong, while in Tony’s movies he’s usually in the wrong and then has to admit that to himself to do right. So it makes total sense that Tony sees Lagos as another mistake and Sokovian awards as the way to atone for that, while Steve doesn't trust the government (another powerful group of people) to make the decisions for him. Steve’s usually right, so he thinks he’s doing the right thing this time too, while Tony’s so used to being wrong that he doubts himself and Avengers even when it’s not necessary.

The issue here is they never had real time to sit down and discuss the Accords. Ross handed them off while they were still raw from that mission, then Steve went to Peggy's funeral, then King T'Chaka was killed, then Bucky was woke up as the Winter Soldier again, then they had the airport fight, then they had the silo fight.
There was no down time for them to get their minds right and really sort things out. Had they been able to, all of this would have been avoided. They could have come to an agreement, and the Avengers could have gone to the negotiation table to get changes to the Accords and meet governments halfway.
THAT was the biggest danger here. Nobody had time to take a moment and breathe.

I do think Tony is closer to being the better side only because cap seems to think he can do whatever he wants without consequences. That’s will always be the wrong move. He runs around destroying property, killing, or unintentionally causing deaths and thinks all is well just because he ends up being a hero in there end. His morals and values are in the right place, but his actions and worldviews don’t always line up with reality. Tony while just as bad , is much more rleaistif with his mindset than Steve is. He atleast is willing to compromise when he knows he finessed up. With cap, if it doesn’t fit his agenda, compromise isn’t on the table. He’s rather have the war first and resolve later.

One of the problems i have with this film is it's a "Civil War" where no one dies. Zemo's plan is far too complicated for what he wants... Ross having a go at the team when he was one of the "committee" that authorised the nuclear strike on Manhatten is a bit rich. You have to remember Tony is a control freak, he created Ultron to make the world safe. And now the Accords to control super-powered humans...It's part of his make-up... In the comic books, Wanda is classed as an Omega Level mutant, the only one that's on the same level in Jean Grey aka Phoenix.

Ross wasn't a part of the SHIELD council which authorized the strike. I think you might be thinking of Powers Boothe's character.
The one main issue I had was Zemo's bizarrely comprehensive intelligence and network of resources that allowed him to carry out the plan, but they've since addressed those excessive resources by revealing that he was, in fact, a baron like in the comics.

Personally, I don’t think a story like this needs character death to be taken seriously. A good writer can create stakes and tragedy without resorting to that, and I think Civil War does that expertly.
While no characters die, the relationships and bonds between them do, and in some ways, I feel like that’s even more engaging.
The “Civil War” in this film is a result of, when you boil it down, different political opinions (until the very end, of course). It’s about a family being split down the middle about what’s right and wrong - something very relatable and human, as anyone who’s attended a Thanksgiving with their extended relatives can attest to.
Honestly, I think if anything, having this family _murder_ each other, even if accidentally, would somewhat tarnish this relatability aspect for me. Families will fight over political beliefs, but they don’t kill eachother for them.
Just my personal opinion, though. Completely respect your take.
Also yeah, Ross is a hypocritical dick, but he’s a politician so that’s to be expected.

    • @cosesu8929
      @cosesu8929 2 года назад +2

The only thing I would say about no one dying in the movie is that, even though I haven't read the Civil War storyline, who ever did die in the comics was probably just retconed back in. (Was there a character who stayed dead?)
The movies can avoid this by simply keeping everybody alive. The stories the movies tell are just inspired by, and are more streamlined than the comics.

honestly, the way they integrate the introduction of heroes like antman, spiderman and black panther in this movie, they do it so well in this movie that not only hypes you up but at the same time, they're involved in the right places. i was so HYPED to see what those three could do with the avengers despite in this one, being team iron man vs team cap. top notch movie really, the hype before infinity war!

I honestly love this movie. And I just love it when there's basically no outside threat, it's just the group of protagonists having a *valid* conflict. Both sides have valid arguments and it makes sense why the characters choose the sides they did. Definitely would take Cap's side though, because I agree with his points and because he has the group of people that I like better haha. "Wanda's power are on a different scale, that is dangerous" *chuckles*

every marvel fan ever can really relate to what he said at the end fight scene between cap and tony, jou can't just choose a side it is just depressing watching these people fight each other, it's one of my fav marvel movies but also is the most devestating one because this is where the Avengers are torn apart.

it's always rubbed me the wrong way how tony started all of this out of guilt for killing a kid but then at the first opportunity blackmails another teen boy into fighting literal enhanced adults for him

@@lpshorror99 well Peter is different than if he brought the kid from his own movie to it. Peter can literally fight Bucky, Cap and Falcon. When he can do that you can't treat him like a regular kid

And Peter directly explains to Tony the "With great power..." thing, which the Sokovia Accords are in diametric opposition to. Tony completely fails to understand the concept of personal responsibility.

@@latraeosborne3287 I think that just because he can doesn't mean he should. The whole situation itself was a very grown up predicament and discussion. It's asking too much from a teen. He may have the physicality required to fight them but his mentality is still that of a 15 year old. Also a grown man going behind the back of a child's legal guardian to take them to a foreign country isn't great optics and is also against the law. The same thing Tony was saying needed to be respected. Idk I just think Peter should have been introduced in a different way to the MCU. Didn't feel right to me.

  • @MrGBH

Personally I agree with Stark when it comes to the Accords.
When you have people travelling the world and arresting supervillains, you need them to have oversight. If you don't, that's how you get corrupt cops and the like.
It doesn't help that we don't see the details of the Accords. We don't see what they put in place to prevent what Cap was worried about.

I love that Ninetailedbrush started picking up on, and arguing for, one of the 2 sides of the movie before it had really been hashed out for him. He was saying things for Cap's side before he even knew it lol. That was so great. These MCU reactions are some of my favorite from you guys because the reactions are so genuine and you really get into the underlining themes and shit.
Cap saw what it was like for people with agendas to dictate what's a threat and what isn't during Winter Soldier. I don't blame him for not trusting the accords. Both sides have very important points and it makes for a great movie.

The Avenger's mission in Lagos was one of my favourite scenes tbh. I loved how it showcased each character's skills (especially Cap & Nat), and how well they had learned to work w/ each other in combat.
I wish we could've gotten more scenes like that throughout the MCU tbh, especially w/ Natasha - I feel like this (& CA:WS) is where she shines best.

It’s not Avengers 2.5/3 to me, it’s still a Cap story - in essence it features a lot of Avengers characters like whom have their side and opinion but at the end its about Bucky and Steve.

Yeah the story is basically: Bucky is framed so Cap and Sam tries to look for him, they realize Zemo's plan with the other Winter Soldiers, they go look for Zemo to stop him. The Accords was just something that made it more difficult for Cap to do that mission

And out of the Avengers the only ones that really matter are the ones from Winter Soldier. That’s why the movie start off with Rumlow, Bucky, Sam, Natasha, and Wanda to continue Winter Soldier. The other avengers are only for specific scenes

This movie was one of the hardest because we all hate to see this once group of mostly friends to whatever extent (except for the 2 new guys and Bucky) , who have been Avenging together for awhile now, get turned on each other by Zemo. It was sad and tragic on many levels. 😢 But a good movie overall.
