You should try using a sculk catalyst instead of a sensor. The catalyst is used to spread sculk on nearby blocks when chickens are gonna be killed. The spreading you can detect with an observer.
Just a bit of help for the tnt problem, tnt will fall for about 72 blocks before it explodes so your tnt wasn't placed high enough. Then again thats also pretty high to it wouldnt really be a plausible distraction. Either way thats what happened.
The idea of a tripwire hook that releases when the chickens die was neat... I wish that idea had turned out better. One of the few more interesting uses of them! I'll have to look into that more.
A friend of mine also filled another friends house with chickens. Unfourtunatly some chickens and many of their eggs escaped and populated with chickens until chickens were our primary lag sourse. Months later we killed most of them, which took some time.

Nice, video, but couldn't you have used a skulk catalyst and an observer to set the trap, when the chickens are killed surrounding dirt and stone turns into skulk, which allows the observer to trigger the trap.
