this was in my opinion the best JFK drama about his presidency, the guy playing Hoover is unbelievable and Blair Brown as Jackie BUT It's Martin Sheen who steals the show.
A great film about a truly great and still underrated President, and a wonderful evocation of the times. That is, both the excitement of being in the center of a seismic shift in American life and the savagery of white racism in the Deep South. Martin Sheen’s is by far the greatest impersonation of John F. Kennedy ever attempted. All the actors turn in extraordinary performances. Vincent Gardenia is especially outstanding as J. Edgar Hoover.
This is so hard to believe this is what is was like living in the south in this country. I do remember seeing it and reading about it when I was younger….i am 73.
I’m knocking on the door of 70, and I, firsthand, experienced desegregation in Mississippi, my home State. Mississippi has gotten a bad rap. Other States flew under the radar, hiding their State’s racism.
No one should be beaten for anything ever while a police officer walks away laughing in 2024 not much better sadly I think it’s worse how did we get so far apart as human beings makes me so very sad!
It's so crazy Martin Sheen plays in the white house as a president and then he does The West Wing Series in the 90s to the 2000s Emilio Estevez looks like his dad when he was younger
I've watched many films on the Kennedys. I would say that Blair Brown truly captured Jackie's look, her wit, her distinctive voice better than any of the actresses portraying her over the years. Natalie Portman was too petite physically, too elfin-like to embody Jackie's strong-will, intelligence, warmth and cool vulnerability.
Indeed he was. I liked how he says in part 2 "I'm not interested in that--I'm interested in sex!" I thought "that might be a first for ol' J Edgar" lol. The FBI is a better organisation because he is no longer in it. I still remember this whole era clearly.
@@janwilliams1781 oooooh …… thank you, I wonder why President Kennedy didn’t threaten the same….. there was a lot of under handed things Hoover did. Said horrible things about homosexuals …. Yet he was gay.
He would have released the proof of infidelity … too bad no one showed his long standing affair with a man… not on prejudicial grounds but as blackmail to remove the surveillance and illegal wiretapping he was doing
Because he had the dirt on the whole crew...Joe Sr.'s bootlegging past, insider trading and ties to organized crime... JFK's infidelity and knowledge of his father's influence on the election especially in Chicago. If they exposed the dirt on Hoover (not sure they had it then) they would have been exposed... How did Hoover stay in office so long? He had the dirt on everybody!

Listening to the song: "What the World Needs now Is Love sweet love"--was kind of torch song for what was missing during those turbulent times. Stevie Wonder wrote a NEW song for our current times: "Love is in Need of Love"--for the best rendition of this song; Look up : Love is in need of Love sung by George Michael Tribute 1963-2016. When you listen to this song, keep in my the lyrics--as it fits what is still going on today. "Hate is going round breaking many hearts, please stop it please, before it goes too far." "Love is in need of Love today, so send yours in right away." This is the bridge of that song. I lived in Portland Oregon 1967-1973--in a mostly black neighborhood. I lived in the ONE white block that was "planted" into the middle of this to fight segregation of blacks regarding housing planning. I was beat up almost every day by black gangs because I am a white girl. it was so bad, that one of my teachers had to walk me part way home from school every day, just to make sure I made it home safely! I would arrive home with bruises all over me. I was the ONLY white girl in a sea of black faces. My parents taught me that there was no such thing as black people, all of us are the same. I never told anyone it was "black people beating me up." It was shock to my parents and to the teacher that I never told them this, I just said "kids" were beating me up. I was raised color blind. I still believe this today, that we are all just different shades of brown, one race! Today, I stand up for the rights of others as a housing advocate. ONE of the first things I did was to stop housing discrimination via racial profiling in our community. WE had NO one of color living in our building, even though people applied. I reported the management company to Fair Housing ASAP. Within 3 months we soon had had people of every creed, background, culture, and country and gender preference living in our community--also color--which I hate to use that word--and it is wonderful to have EVERYONE here as neighbors. I did not let my childhood experiences cloud my mind, or cause me to become a bigot. My point is that those in Alabama, Mississippi, and places down south who faced such adversities, had children who made a massive exodus finally for the NORTH--two major places they went were either Portland Oregon or Los Angels California. Watching this series and seeing some of the violence African Americans faced, now gives me a new understanding of the anger I was facing as a child by children of these adults. I am not saying what they did to me was right, but I now understand the anger--while I forgave it a long time ago, it helps me to understand better, and to have even more compassion, and mercy when I think about those memories and the past. Thanks for this mini series. IT has give ME much to think about. Blessings!

Her campaign and White House wardrobe was paid for by Joseph Kennedy, provided she engage American designers (which she did). The historical restoration (*not* redecoration) of The White House was funded with private donations, through the efforts of The Fine Arts Committee which she convened but which was chaired by Henry DuPont of Wilmington, DE. The cost of food-except for State Dinners and other official functions-was borne by the First Family (then, as now).
Why only two options there is also the wonderful options to remain single full of dignity and grace ..enjoying it in freedom and peace free of male violance abuse mentally emotionally and physically...having a good job that fulfills being of meaning to society...As if marriage is the only way to have meaning as a female...as if being married is the only way to be fulfilled in life.....
Now that America observes Juneteenth as a national holiday and the birthday of MLK JR one would think we has finally turned a corner when it comes to full inclusion. Ostracism of blacks by whites took place on a personal level. Each one of us must take responsibility for human dignity & mutual respect. Today is 2024/9/13 AD~

Blair Brown, out of all the actress's who played Jackie, looked the most like her and portrayed her the best IMO
Where's Parts IV, V, VI and VII?

The reason why Edgar Hoover didn't want to go against the mafia because they had pictures of him as a crossdresser he would dress up as a girl
a young Frasier is in this-Kelsey!!!!

It's shameful. What's even worse, is that some people refuse to believe it was ever that way, or want it to go back to being that way.

So where is Part 4???
1960s was the brutal era in America. 😟😟
Hoover talking about King is hilarous!
This really happened. How terrible
All this lacks is the phrase "let them eat cake" nothing shows more than this how the 60s were experienced by different groups.
The actor who plays LBJ looks quite similar to him. 🙂🙂
Is that how it ends?? I"m thinking there was a part 4.......
No, that's not how it ends. Look up part 4, and many more.
all the way to part 24. Just type it in
