      We put all kinds of weird shit in mines across California in the 70s & 80s. Reflective eyeballs, noose, practice grenades... It was really funny when another of our friends would come across them!

      +Jay Jonstone I heard in the Reward Mine there used to be what was called the “Reward Man.” I guess this was some kind of dummy or mannequin hanging on a string with a trenchcoat or something like that.

    It's definitely not a reflection.
    If you look closely, whatever it is is completely blocking the shadow of the wall from the light until it moves out of the way.
    Something was in the light's path.
    And after it moves you can see that shadow of the wall.
    If it had just been a reflection of the minerals, you would still see the shadow as the light was hitting it from other angles.

    • @SheldonLudlow
      @SheldonLudlow 8 лет назад +33

      +Timesmanify, great point. It also moves after he stops moving. So the only way it's a reflection is if someone else is pointing a light in that direction from behind him.

    Im a skeptic and highly interested in the paranormal. Id like to believe there is something supernatural in the world and it isnt as plain and boring as we perceive it. But, ive never found any convincing proofs or possibilities of paranormal events in my short term of browsing paranormal videos on the web as a hobby. I've also never been afraid of the dark, or had irrational fears such as the fear of ghosts or hauntings.
    But your "paranormal" videos genuinely terrify me. The fact that your channel is dedicated to exploring these abandoned places and not actually hunting ghosts is what makes it seems more genuine. Ive found a definitive sound explanation for every such video ive ever seen except yours.
    But, who knows. This might just be an elaborate hoax. Even if it is one, its an extremely good one.

      I understand, A few modifications, and a tether, perhaps a crash cage. but then again you have some very wet conditions, not to mention the possibility of trapped gas.
      You could give the idea to a robotics team at the local university to puzzle out. Who knows you may end up with the next gen Go pro remote camera.
      Thanks for the vids anyhow, cheers

      those little quadrocopters all the kids are playing with these days are fairly easy to fly especially the ones with 'hover' capabilities then it's no harder than playing a videogame with a remote camera strapped to it
      though there might potentially be some issues with signal strength going into dense rocks and far away though just checking out narrow passage and shafts that would be too risky to go manually it should do quite well

    +fhood I've been seeing a lot of your videos lately and I must say you do a fine job of bringing these pieces of otherwise forgotten heritage into the public eye! Better than the tripe on TV for sure!. actually thought I'd subscribed already but no..)but I have now!)
    Whatever that was at 08:23 - 08:24 appeared to continue moving into the tunnel, *after* the beam of the spotlight stopped moving - so although I initially suspected the _moving_ 'glow', to be something like quartz or other minerals glinting in the moving light, it really does seem to defy explanation - because it only appeared once and didn't reappear when the beam moved away again.
    I'm glad I noticed this before I read the comments or info because it affirms that this could be something beyond explanation, or even supernatural(?).

      Wrong. The mine got its name because its infested with black widow spiders, and if you got bitten by a spider, there was no anti-venom back then so the quickest and less painful death would be a bullet straight to the head. But because of flammable gasses in the mines, using a firearm would just ignite the gasses and kill everyone in it, possibly collapsing the mine aswell, so hanging was the only option.
      I just made that up

    What's weirder is the dark figure on the left path at 8:22 soon before the light figure on the right (not to mention if you pause fast enough on the light it looks like a hanging man in the streak of the light). Doesn't the left shadow look like a crouching person with their head slumped forward as if they're trying to keep going that way, instead of a rock or stalagmite shadow? The right side with light moved but the left side with the dark figure didn't, it stayed still even though his light moved quickly to and away from it which is creepier. Would make sense physically if it shined onto the corner of the cave, but we can see the center where his light shines and doesn't leave any shadows or dark spots...

    When you mentioned quartz it came to me that being a crystal, it is very likely to store activity and energies within these mines, as in the case with the Waldeck and Horton mine. Before anyone says the is ridiculous please note that quartz can be used like a microchip to store data.

    You guys definitely share my love for mining history and exploration. Don't know if you ever make it out to Utah, but if you do, there are some really cool mines in a place called Jacob City, and Ophir Canyon. About 35 miles southwest of Salt Lake City, near Tooele and Stockton. You can access the Buckhorn mine in Ophir, which is huge, I've never been to the end of its three levels. Jacob City has the Hidden Treasure Mine, which supposedly the Buckhorn connects to, and the Mono Tunnel Mine, plus many others that are really cool to check out! I've been going to those places about two or three times a year, for the past 10 or 12 years, and still haven't been through all the mines in that area. The ones that are still accessible that is. Keep the awesome videos coming!

    Do you guys have ways of assessing a mine's safety before entering? I've been bingewatching your stuff, but there's so much to watch! Why is the presence of water, especially stagnant water, a bad thing? I found some abandoned mine entrances in Colorado but haven't entered very far for safety concerns-and one of them has stagnant water about twenty feet in. Being trapped by a collapse would be a horrid way to go ;)

      Jack Burton A couple other viewers have told me basically the same thing in private messages. When I first approach the noose, I film looking down that tunnel, and it's totally dark. Then I pan over to the other tunnel for a few seconds and then pan back to the first tunnel where I can clearly see something ducking out-of-sight around the bend in the tunnel. Whatever it was, it wasn't there a few seconds earlier when I initially aimed my camera down that tunnel! Pretty damn frightening, if you ask me. Sort of glad I didn't notice it at the time because that would've freaked me out!

    It is a stone reflection of some kind, put it in slow motion at 8:22 and wait him show the right part of the tunnel. You will see that his body is more forward and the light can reach the end of the tunnel easily hitting some rock there. Now wait when he passes the light in that direction again at 8:36. His body is already moving backwards to show where they came from so the light cant reach the same spot to show the reflection twice. It is just a reflection.

    Well I've actually been all through this mine, and it's not the Black Widow. I've climbed that winze from top to bottom all 700 feet, including exploring all of the levels in between. Here's a picture of me at the 100 ft level and some pictures of the winze for proof. I'm not going to say the real name, out of respect for the area and owners of the town. Sorry for cell phone quality images: imgur.com/a/4Lm3X

    • @AbandonedMines11
      @AbandonedMines11  8 лет назад

      Brett, when climbing that winze, did you use ropes at all or did you just free-climb it? I saw your pictures again, and that winze looks pretty primitive. I realize there are platforms (I think), but it looks like the winze is just a hole bored through the rock with no timbering on all four sides, etc.. In other words, it looks pretty sketchy! Is it?

    • @BrettBeals
      @BrettBeals 8 лет назад +1

      We just free-climbed it. The ladder was rebuilt in the 70's or so according to Mike Patterson when teams were surveying the ore to possibly restart mining operations. There is timber throughout the winze, platforms every 50 feet or so, but it is 1 complete ladder after the first level going straight down. The only sketchy section is the last 45 feet or so (after climbing 200-300ft) of the ladder the wall that it was attached to has collapsed leaving the ladder floating in the air which causes it to rock as you climb (very unnerving in the pitch black) and you can't tell how far from the bottom you are. The left hand side of the winze next to the ladder is built up as one of those vertical slides for carrying ore buckets up (blanking on the correct terminology) and that runs the entire length of the tunnel. At the very bottom level where you have access to the outside again there was a collapse that nearly blocked our exit. It created an area above the collapse we were able to climb over and then make it to daylight. I'm not sure how long ago that happened, but when my dad and some others climbed it in 1998 there was no collapse in that section but the ladder was still free-hanging. Just to give some perspective.

    • @AbandonedMines11
      @AbandonedMines11  8 лет назад

      I'm sure we saw the bottom of the ladder in the lowest tunnel when we were there but I have no footage of it in this video. In the upper tunnel footage, however, I show a free-hanging ladder at 3:48. We didn't even bother going over to that area to look at it up close. Any idea where that goes? Upper levels? When we were there, it was more or less a quick run-through of the mine -- we probably missed a lot of stuff in the two tunnels we explored.

    • @BrettBeals
      @BrettBeals 8 лет назад

      Never climbed up from the top level. I've been in that mine probably 15 times and I don't remember what area you're talking aabout. I'll check out the video later.

    8:24 Regarding the unknown light source, unfortunately we don't know the layout of that section of the tunnel. There may have been an opening between the tunnel you guys just came through, and the tunnel from which the light appeared (the light possibly coming from the other guy).
    From where the light shines however (near the floor) it would suggest that if there was an opening there, it would have to have at least be aimed towards the ground. It also seemed to be a lot stronger than the light you were emitting so if it did come from the other guy he would basically have had to have been standing very near to that spot - which I think is probably the case; the giveaway being that the other guy says "dead end" indicating he's searching in another tunnel.

    I explored one of the asbestos mines in my town some 8 years ago about.. I didnt go down in the ground tunnels but there are multiple buildings and a huge landscape. In order to go into the underground tunnels, you need to use and elevator. My cousin and I found some plans and schedules and some old instruction books.
    Anyways my cousin was exploring this one particular building and I was hesitating to go into that one. Well, as I passed through the small window, one of the doors banged and scared the hell outta us. We got out of there without any hesitation. Now, this was on a bright sunny day with barely any wind. The door weighed at least 100 pounds as it looked like all the other doors made of steel or something like that and felt heavy. I still wonder to this day what caused the door to close like that. There was another on right in front of it but it remained open..
    Love your videos

      Will have to keep that locale in mind. Haven't yet made it up to Idaho as far as I know. Lots of mining history in that state, though! Thanks for your comment and suggestion!

      Exploring Abandoned Mines Thanks for caring enough to show us the last remnants of are mining days :D I really appreciate people like you who go out of their way to let us folks who havent had a chance to see something as cool as mines or caves. I mean I have seen plenty mines and caves but some folks haven’t. We have a few mining caves here in Hawaii but they are closely guarded.

      TacoRice Man Ha everyone ask me that. Its really nice in south Reno. The show was actually filmed in California. We dont have palm trees here like it shows in the show.
      Look up the Sierra mountains Reno on google images. And lake Tahoe is only like 30 mins from us. Winters here are great!
      Definitely a cheap but nice place to visit.

    Love your videos. Exploring abandoned and forgotten places is a dream of mine, mainly to see if the places are haunted! I love ghost hunting shows and to try a hand at it myself!
