How do you feel about the taller gearing in the final drive that is created by using the larger diameter tire set up? The difference in diameter is about 5.25% I believe, which is significant, in term of gearing.
I spoke with an engineer friend of mine in Austria. He works with Sprinter 4x4's and tells me any larger wheels or tires make it impossible for the stability control to keep the van in control or even upright. I just took delivery of a 4x4 Sprinter and it says the same thing in the manual. In my opinion this van is already SO tall that putting bigger tires and wheels on might make it too tippy. Besides, is it necessary? Where are people trying to rock crawl this thing anyway? Maybe if the trail requires more than stock you shouldn't be taking a van this size down it anyway? I do think that on road stability is more important that a little bit of higher off road capability...
Personally i would not cut my sprinter i used a heat gun on the inner plastics push and reshaped offending areas. Worked well and keeps stones and mud splash out.
Great camper van!! Totally out of my financial reality however. The wife an I are in our 60’s, we enjoy weekend camping and vacations in our vintage 1997 GMC 1500 Savana high top conversion van. This van I’ve owned for 10 years and is in very good condition. I am having the suspension upgraded with only a very slight lift. The plan is to swap the 15” stock wheels and tires for 16” larger all terrain tires for better gravel road/ dirt road adventure camping that we often do. Any recommendations or general advice about tire size upgrades?
Nice job/explanation. Btw, I wish you were in business before purchasing 6k of product from Aluminess. They had to send me multiple bumpers and swings and never did get a good fit.
Great video. Planning on purchasing a Storyteller but keep bouncing back and forth between one of their Sprinters and their Ford Transit Mode LT. QUESTION- Do you know what the biggest tire size is that will work on the Ford ???
IMO the best bang for your buck you is the Classic MODE. Sprtiner has SO many more options for aftermarket and you can dial the van in just like you want it. Diesels also hold their resale value much better.
Hey all, has anyone done a good comparison between the Agile Off-road No Rub kit, this Van Compass Option, and the Terrawagen Mondo Mud guard kit? I’m interested in both the aesthetics and the function… it’s pretty hard to find good side by side comparison. Thx.
All accomplish the same thing. Van Compass is the cheapest (and you can do the rears) but it takes more time to install. Mondo is expensive but faster to install. We don’t buy anything from Agile so we would not be familiar with that product.
Has anyone made a larger spare tire carrier for the larger 275 tires. Yes you should put a spare on the back door but a second spare is also a good idea because that sharp rock that takes out your front tire can do the same on the tire behind it.
Fuel tank? We have an extended range tank. Much better than two tanks and a transfer pump. owlvans.com/products/sprinter-long-range-fuel-tank-47-gal?_pos=1&_sid=361089e00&_ss=r
Great video!!!! One question, have you found a way to adjust the speedometer and such to compensate for the larger tires? I put the same size tires on my 2014 sprinter van and the speedometer was off by about 4 mph at 70 mph. I now have a 2020 Sprinter and would like to upgrade to larger tires, but I would sure like it better if I could somehow adjust the speedometer to compensate for the larger tire setup. Any ideas?
Is there a big difference in fuel consunctio and confort from smaller to bigger. I mean most km are on the road so, what is really the point of going bigger. Looks safety, speed. Great job anyway👌
Are you saying that a Toyo Open Country 275/70-18' on 18"/+55 offset Black Rhino's will fit a 2014? Lol. I know I will probably have to mod the mudflaps.
You mention possibly upgrading to 35’s in the future, does that mean you are willing to lose the electronic capabilities or is there an electronic adapting kit? 💁🏻♀️
How high is this van lifted? Factory lift on mine is 4.25" and the stock wheels/tires look miniature. We don't plan on too much off-roading but it will see a lot of winters in the mountains. Wondering how to best fill the extra space?
Owl Vans Engineering thanks, on order. Do you know if my 2019 4x4 sprinter has the correct hinge for your ladder/tire carrier and box on there side? Thanks
Captain Carter if you go bigger than 275’s you have to recalibrate the speedometer or you will get errors with the ECU. I have heard MB dealers will do this but we have not tried yet so we cannot confirm.
I love how it looks but everybody knows that Sprinter is a piece of junk the engine is just garbage but it does look good and I own two Mercedes Sprinter worst thing ever
Great Video! I’ll be following these steps for my 2019. Definitely grabbing some Owl Wheels like these!!

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Just thermo-mold it
Hi there . What’s the biggest 17 inch tyre you can fit without having to do the mods you’ve done in this video please .
255/70

Does this work for 2wd?
Much easier to go with Mondo mudguards from Terrawagen, no cutting and you don't need to remove the wheels. Overall just easier.

I wish you could have spent that money with us too ;) Thanks for the kind words
Thanks John, very helpful demo.
YHX FROM TURKIYE 👌👍

Good afternoon. I wanted to know if it is possible to install a second tank under the Sprinter

Depending on the size of the tire, I believe the MB dealer can update the software.

How to make a six-wheeled Mercedes Sprinter long wheelbase?
How to recalibrate speedmeter for bigger tire?

I would love to know the answer for this
Good stuff. Except to is incorrect to use an abrasive cutoff wheel on plastic or aluminum. Bandsaw is the way to go.
Great video. Did you ever cut the rear wheel fender flare?
Never got around to it!
After cutting away what about possible wheel cutting from bouncing?
How high is this van lifted? Factory lift on mine is 4.25" and the stock wheels/tires look miniature. We don't plan on too much off-roading but it will see a lot of winters in the mountains. Wondering how to best fill the extra space?
Max tire size you can go on a new Spritner is 275/70 R17 because of the onboard computers
@@owloffroad Thanks... How high is the van lifted that's in the video?
@@jeffwolf2004 This van has the Van Compass 6.3 which is a 2" lift over the stock 4x4
Those tires will fit on a regular sprinter or have to be all well drive sprinter?

Is the cutting necessary just to run 275’s on a 2020? How big can we go without any cutting?

Depends on 4x4 or 2wd but 4x4 is 265 as the largest without cutting
@@owloffroad 2wd 170. Would wheel spacers help?
@@michelecrafton Take a look at the chart I linked to. It has all the info you need
Would some 17x8 wheels with an offset of 40 fit a sprinter 170? Thanks
Awesome video, thank you!

What kind of socket torx set are you using?
Will a 265/70 17 Black Rhino Warlord fit without mudflap/fender mods? I'm hoping the 52 spacing on these works

Did you relocate the exhaust from behind passenger side step?
