People don't realize, you can't do 5K120 on Thunderbolt 4. It is nice to see Apple is rolling out Thunderbolt 5, which should be able too. I would not be surprised if Apple had a exclusive contract for 5K60 all this time, and it has expired, just in time for them to release a 5K120 (requiring Thunderbolt 5, which means a new Mac) at $1499-1799 range. Now that these 5K60s are coming out at the $800 range.
Why not allow resolution and refresh rate options in the settings? Many of us looking for a Mac display with a KVM switch are also using gaming PCs or consoles as the other device. These days, we need at least a 120 Hz refresh rate for that. It would have been nice to see it as an option here.
When it comes to 5K displays for the Mac, you can’t do better than the Samsung 5K S9 viewfinity. I picked up three of them for $650 each that’s less than one apple display and then I hooked them up through the iVanky dock
I have a budget Samsung 28" 4K monitor that I'm using with my budget M4 Mac mini, and it's doing a good job. Having said that, I sure with this 5K ASUS had been on the market when I made my monitor purchase, I think it would have been worth the extra expense. I base this opinion on the ASUS ProArt 27" 2K I use with my Windows PC, an excellent monitor.
While I cannot say anything about this 5k monitor, I have purchased an ASUS ProArt PA329CRV 4k 32inch monitor from asus and did color accuracy test throughly with my calibrite display plus, the result is fine but indicates a green tint on the white point that you can clrealy tell from naked eyes. I tested multiple times to make sure if I've made any mistakes. I dounted myself many times becasue ASUS ProArt line is ment for professionals and may youtubers are praising them. 😊I eventually chose the BENQ MA320 and got higher brightness than my macbook pro16 miniled in sdr senarios and great color accuracy. Thus, before you guys pull the trigger on any other ASUS ProArt lines, keep in mind that you might get a monitor with greenish white that you can tell not right with naked eyes.
Moire can manifest *on any discrete display* . This has nothing to do with MacOS scaling. However, many imaging programs include processes to minimize moire when looking at images in their applications.
Your description of "scaling" (on MacOS) is a bit wonky. Unfortunately Apple does not help in this regard as they don't emphasize enough the two words _looks like_ in their list. The choice of scaling in MacOS is *not just there* for other monitor types. It is intentionally part of the UI design, to allow people to change the UI to suit their personal needs, such as people with vision problems who want large icons and text for example.
I have been using this monitor for a few weeks. The lag on switching inputs is painful, but in terms of basic picture use seems ok, this was overkill for me, using it on an M2 Mac Mini.
With an advertised contrast ratio of 1500:1, but in matte, do you find the contrast significantly better than the Apple Studio Display (1000:1) using glass? Or is there no significant difference?
So the "5K2K" term used popularly for monitors these days is quite misleading, compared to the original "5K" and "4K" labels. It's sad but that's what happens when marketers get involved.
Can you please compare this monitor to the samsung viewfinity s9 and the new benq pd2730s. It will be the only videk of it's kind on youtube and will help those of us who can't afford the studio display a lot.
The backlight bleed on these monitors are pretty bad. Good attempt by ASUS though. I’m fine with my Benq 32 monitor which is really sharp and so is my LG. I’ve never had any issues with scaling, ever. Never understood why people complain about the scaling. It’s stupid.
@ I had the Ben Q PD2725U and now I have the Ben Q MA32OU which just released. I also currently own the LG 27 Ultrafine 4K LG27UQ850W. I edit photos do video on both monitors and never understood why people complain about the scaling. I never saw any of my images or videos blurry, or even when I write in the note pad or read something in a browser.
@ThisIsE I've never had a good experience with a matte panel. Even the new matte 4K OLEDs and the Apple nano coating reduce the clarity and color saturation, and they somehow even FEEL cheap compared to the glossy counterpart. It's just not worth it when you can just get blinds for your windows and have a much better looking glossy coating.
I appreciate your honesty as to monitors …
I’ve been contemplating Apple’s Studio for months and this was a fair and thorough review … thank YOU
Glad it was helpful!

off subject, would be cool if you compared the ipad mini to the 13 inch pro.
also, does it make sense to get a mini if you have a 6,7 inch phone?
“It’s a tool, and a versatile one” 👏🏻 very well said.
Thank you 😊

hi, thanks for the video, I have been looking for a monitor for my new mac mini
Glad I could help 😊
Nice review, high quality presentation and practical information.

Please review the gshock watch that you are wearing..Also about the smart ring that you are wearing we would love to see that please
I will do a smart wearable episode soon ☺️

If you were to switch to a 4k, you’ll appreciate the “overkill” ☺️ Enjoy it 👊

God, those contrast ratios seem so ancient!
Better Display app fixes the scaling issues, so no need to spend hundreds and hundreds on a monitor just for the extra resolution.

I think the Elephant Question in the room, is when will Asus/LG/Benq drop a 32" 6K and how much will it cost?
UK Release date for 5K monitor?
It should be out at this point
This is my question as well,,,no info on UK release date yet,,,
There is a Benq 27 5K coming out soon

which Benq monitor do you have - and are you a Mac user

$799 is a lot of money.
Like video, because why not?!
This is the way 🫡
Needs a glossy coating like the Studio Display then we're talking. Now it's just another trash matte panel.
The matte here is really good dude

9 views in 1 minute, bro fell off hard
Don’t worry about it 😉
Is it high refresh rate? Nope. Im out
Now that Thunderbolt 5 is out, high refresh rate at this resolution is right around the corner. I give it a year, maybe two years tops.
