Congratulations on your "The Truth About Going To The Gym: Is it bad for your Diet? Plus The Latest On Slimming World - Body Magic" inspirational thanks for sharing. 🏊
Great to see you, Patrick! As you mentioned, the thing about any kind of sport is that it never usually burns as many calories as you think it does. Therefore trying to “work off” a slice (or 5!) of cake probably won’t work…. My feelings about the scales are now more that they are a guideline and it’s how you feel that matters. As a woman entering the menopause, I’m conscious that I need to strengthen my joints and bones so weight bearing exercises are great for this. Also I find sports great for mental health. All the very best, Patrick, keep going! Lots of love from Munich xxx
I always tell my clients that the my pt session are to help burn fat and tone they have to have a calorie deficit along side it otherwise it won’t work gym work outs cause water retention as it protects your muscles, I always tell myself clients not to worry about the scales go by how you look and how you feel and to eat more protein to keep you fuller for longer.
With all respect Patrick (and I have plenty) I have been able to maintain a healthy weight for years by a combination of exercise, (mainly cardiovascular 3-4 times a week, 30 minutes or so at a time) and calorie counting. I have proven to myself I can 'eat back' exercise calories providing they're sensible amounts - I ignore what the exercise machines tell me because they tend to over estimate. After several weeks of a calorie deficit I always see a loss on the scales, or if no calorie deficit I see no change, or if calorie excess I see weight gain.
Hey, thanks for the comment. I completely agree, exercise is great for fitness and a few extra calories in your day but the only way to lose weight is by less calories in than out.
I was to.d exercise is only 20% of weightloss, and i agree, exercise is for bones and muscles (incl heart, brain) and so if you fall over when youre 80, you can get up again.
