I just want to say that I recently got a megatone mouthpiece, and it made a significant difference in my tone, especially in the lower registers (on the staff, and a bit below). I had been playing on a Bach 3C. I am an amateur, and I was kind of skeptical that a mouthpiece could make that big of a difference but I was absolutely wrong. Just a cheapo 30$ knock off megatone mouth piece made quite a difference tonally. Definitely recommend you guys (fellow amateurs) experiment if you have some spare cash to throw around. It's been fun!

@@trumpet_guy idk if your big into shallow/v cup mouthpieces but you should give the Nicholson x-piece by lynn nicholson a try, as you might know, he's a trumpet god and his mouthpiece (in my opinion) is a piece of art, it really helped with my register and it feels amazing on the lips, I've played trumpet for around half a decade, ive tried 7c's 3'cs and they didnt didnt really cut it for me, a bit disappointed on the 3c as many, including my band teacher, told me the 3c was an overall good mouthpiece for range and tone quality

I have a wedge mouthpiece with the beefy backbore on it. It’s a solid piece and one of the really cool features about those specific pieces is that they make the rim of the mouthpiece curved to almost wrap around and seal around your mouth better. I love my wedge.
Another good piece that I play on for my drum corps days is the Schilke 14a4a. It’s built for higher range but it fits really well for the lower range as well and for it being a lead piece, it’s surprisingly dark from what I’ve been able to tell versus even standard 3c and 7c pieces out there.

Well you should test if it does improve your range

    • @brian_urb3157

I don't know how it is with Bachs and Schilkes, but I know with many German professional trumpets like Krinner you don't even get a mouthpiece. But I think if you buy a professional trumpet you already own your perfect mouthpiece.

      Bach's tend to come with either a 3c or a 5c , Yamaha's tend to come with a 16c4 or an 11b4. Reputable companies *normally* come with a standard mouthpiece comparable to a 3, 5, or 7c
