A level crossing found on Creek Road at the edge of March, Cambridgeshire. Controlling this level crossing is the adjacent signal box, one of two active signal boxes within around quarter of a mile on the Ely to Peterborough Line at each end of a railway sidings. This level crossing has four tracks and it also has four alarms which sound at a reasonable volume to alert any nearby users of approaching trains. One of the barriers here is significantly longer than the other three and has a supporter arm, with the two barriers on one side of the crossing (both the barrier boxes and arms themselves) fitted completely the incorrect way around - just like that seen at Roydon Level Crossing. Two of the tracks here are lesser-used since they only access the railway siding, yet these tracks use a newer crossing plant compared to that used for the active Ely to Peterborough Line. There is also a semaphore signal located next to this level crossing (I'm not sure if it is still in use or not), and whilst this section of road may look like a typical narrow and quiet country lane, it is busy with pedestrians and vehicles, and is even part of a bus route. This is one of the only level crossings I've come across thus far whose name could also be used as a command.
The two lowerings in this video were separated by only a few seconds, and I have decided to merge the two together. Each was for a DB Cargo class 66 - a "Maritime" (Intermodal Four) unit, followed by a typical red DB Cargo unit (in this instance, 66 001 - the first 66!).
As you may notice, this level crossing has an extra set of lights for a side road, which is rather unnecessary, since there is a "no right turn" sign prohibiting turning left out of this side road to go over the level crossing, thus it would only be in place to warn pedestrians. This double set of lights is also rather oddly partly attached to the signal box by an unusual bracket.
Thanks for watching!
Great video railroad crossing mate
Thanks! 😁
nice vid again, I always think 66001 looks like a 59/2 lol
Nice one 😁
Thanks a lot! 👍👍😁
Amazing
Thank you! 😁
The crossing itself is a classic crossing, nothing really to say apart from the barriers installed in the wrong side.
But what's not that common to see is these two intermodals within 4 minutes, especially with two DB 66s, with one of them with the blue Maritime livery. That shows that the Ely to Peterborough is a very busy line freight-wise.
This is quite a nice and classic signal box controlled crossing, and yes, it's a very busy line for freight 👍
Nice video! 👌👍
Thanks TTT40! 😁
Great video
Thanks!
Great!
Thanks!
UK Level Crossings & Trains Channel no problem

Thank you!
Is the signal box still in use
Yes. March South Signal Box is still in use.
