Ah the good 'ol days when: 1. Montreal was winning 58 to 60 games a year. As a footnote, Montreal could have won 60 games in 1977-78 but lost to an average Detroit at the last game of the year. 2. Montreal was leading heading into the 3rd period, as was usually the case, Larry, Serge, Guy, Bob and Doug shut down their opponents or neutralize them and Montreal would pile on a few more goals for good measure in the 3rd period and win a lopsided game. 3. If Montreal was losing, you knew they were making a comeback.
That was a fantastic series and yes I agree with others that you could really see the Islanders were an up and coming team that looked to be pretty special.
Watching all these years later I fully appreciate Lemaire. He was so solid, consistently came up big when needed most.
The Lafleur goal - back to the net, spins around and fires it, picks the corner - amazing. Just getting it on goal was tough enough.
Nice find! RIP #22 Mike Bossy
You could tell that the Islanders were building something special even though it would take a couple of years to materialize.
Lionel Duval with Paul Larivée!!! I love your videos! Thanks!
0:21 that Bossy quick release. That would terrorize goalies even today
