It's like watching high school hockey, they are all quite lumbering compared with the slick skating of today.
The Flower last year being dormant
Flames beat the habs in the final
@gekko792003 fair enough. You’re not wrong. LOL
Never have seen those home jerseys with white letters over the blue plate. Did some research thru newspapers & photos show that they used that style jersey for the first 6 Home Games of the 1977-78 season. On the 7th home game (11/4/77 against the NYR), there was no name on the back of their jersey. The following home game, the jerseys had the names in a different font but the blue plate backing was gone. So needless to say, those jerseys are very rare. No mention of the jersey change in either of the Vancouver papers.
No Cups in Toronto since that video was taken! 😂
I wonder when they stopped pronouncing hedberg as hed -bear. Lol I distinctly remember the 'bear' pronounciation but until this video thought I was misremembering it!
... and shoe bear lol!
Man those jerseys are sweet!
Much better than today's unis,
The great Robert Marvin Hull.
According to today's rules, there were 15 penalties before the goal was scored at the beginning
The Canucks finished with a worst record 20-43-17- 57 points than the year before 23 42 13 -63 points so the changes off season didn't help and they missed the playoffs.finishing third n the Smythe Division two points behind Colorado rockies who made the playoffs.
Hull's rug took a whooping
Greg and Marcia Brady at 13:35
Best jersey ever.
Give me a break! Colors are fine and represent the west coast but their logo has always sucked. Team has never had a proper logo other than Johnny Canuck which should have been made their PRIMARY LOGO instead of assigning it to Abottsford. Some fellow I was talking to at a pub one night told me the real meaning of this stick in rink logo. Had something to do with being originally owned buy the Griffiths family and they owned a cable tv company. It is basically supposed to be a TV screen with a hockey stick in the middle of it smh!
Always liked Jacques Demers. He always had a way of dealing with the on ice officials.
8:04 mark..... time traveller in striped shirt wearing a mask. 🤔
Maniago is a bad goalie
lousy coach
Rugby ice hockey. Yay!
Awesome coverage of the Canucks, I also appreciate seeing some Islanders who are a few years before their four cup run, and the Canucks win over the soviets was pretty sweet as well, thanks for this.
I never knew the Canucks had dark name plates on their old jerseys, they looked sharp.
Notice how the goalies play like adults,by standing up instead of constantly being on their knees like today's goalies.
Curt Ridley's mask made it into the Hall of Fame, but he didn't,unless he bought a ticket.
Reggie Houle and Mario Tremblay are the reasons that the Montreal Canadiens have sucked since 93. Every time I see these two morons on TV, I'm just sick to my stomach. 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮
Allman's FTW!👍
Thanks!!!
The Allman Brothers added a nice touch to your video.
I was at the Spartak game. So much fun to watch as the Canucks played some of their best hockey. Ron Sedlbauer used to live just down the street from me and it was cool to see him wave from his balcony as fans called his name. Like all of the dozens of Canucks I've met, I always had the feeling he never forgot his roots and his humility. It's funny, though. I've been a Canucks fan since their inaugural NHL season, and a hockey fan for longer, but I have no memory of the patch of blue around the player names on the back of their jerseys. It must have been short-lived.
I Liked it!
These guys skating in slow motion? Zero defence and the goalie jumps out of the way of a slap shot? 😂😂 Hulls ridiculous toupee!! 😂😂
You can hardly tell it's a wig !
"MARTY'S BETTER!" and OWNED LES HABITANT'S
Spartak " The People's Team."
Lifer Devils fan. Our first captain Don Lever and first goal.
Goons
Curt Ridley and Cesar Maniago shared the goaltending playing about the same number of games and both finishing with close to 4.00 GAA. Greg Hanlon was also used for 5 games and he ended with 2.73. Murray Bannerman played ine game in nets.
Great post
This is way better than NHL dump and chase hockey.
These guys couldnt play in a beer league nowadays, especially the goalies. However, you can see Hull's talent, you could see him being a star in today's NHL with modern training and techniques.
This is so hilarious. Cmon ya dummies!
I read his book, "The Game" and he may be the smartest athlete to have ever existed. Listening to him hear he comes off as very wise.
I think this is the first clip of a WHA game I've ever seen. I was baby / toddler during the WHA years so I don't remember this league at all.
@@daboys1215 same here. 70s baby here myself.
Bobby Dingdong was on fire!
Why put the camera so high like they used to have at the MSG for NYR games?
Narrated by Scott Oake (CBC)
I'm glad to be able to see it at all. Now that I have, daun, it would we vice to see the Jets fans, rewarded and happy, for once. There were 4WHAteams
4 WHA teams? in the 77-78 season there were 8 teams.
I had no idea that Fran Huck played for the Jets.
I guess the Nordiques thought a check was something you pick up at the pay office every two weeks.
Jets uniforms look good - Quebec not so much. :(
What I found interesting is that Brodeur was pulled after giving up 11 goals. Today, he would've been replaced much sooner.
I guess they thought that they still had a chance at 10-3🤣🤣🤣
I remember this game a 12 - 3 beat down by the Jets then 2 days later the Nordiques returning the favor winning the Avco Cup beating the Jets at home 8 - 1. Loved those years in the WHA some memorable times.
Thanks for the rare to find WHA Final Games. Was this 1977 Finals on national television in either the U.S. or Canada?
I don't know about the entire series but, CBC broadcast game 7. Sounds like they did game 6 as well.
