I was aware of, but unfamiliar with this instrument until recently. I play the tenor saxophone and the recorders and I was not aware that such a bright yet warm timbre could exist in a wind instrument all of those centuries ago. I have played a bit of brass in school. I really want to start using this in my music, though I'm more on the rock jazz and hip-hop side of things, I think this instrument could make a real revival if some great players adapt it to modern music. If only that pesky black plague hadn't happened I'm sure we would be hearing the cornett a lot more often. Thank you for your beautiful work.

Why do we think we know so much better than people in history. This is a musical cathedral, thank you.

There are moments where it's impossible to distinguish between the two timbres. Wonderfully done.

It has been said that the cornetto is the closest in sound to the human voice of any instrument. It is also said that the gold of an instrumentalist is to emulate as close as possible, the sound of the human voice.

@@chong2389 Also contemporarily compared to an angel's voice, though not when I tried to play it, apparently.

That last note was amazing! Oh to see the oscilloscope data the timbres are so alike. (The whole piece is amazing too!)

Le cornet à bouquin, mon instrument préféré. Sa douce mélancolie parle à mon âme. Merci Bruce. Merci aussi Haha.

Heard Blazikova and Hickey at SF Early Music Society Concert last night in Berkeley - stunning! Her singing is out of this world. Her vowels are perfect. Hickey's cornetto is played as another soprano voice in duet with her to great effect. If they perform anywhere near you - GO. Drop everything and Go. Don't miss hearing them live in concert.

The cornetto was likened to the human voice (the highest instrument) for good reason during the renaissance.

This video was made during a preliminary rehearsal session with just Hana and me. Her boyfriend, Jan Krekča, generously agreed to play the theorbo to accompany us, but since he is not officially in the project, he played out of sight.
