Thanks Matthew. I had not used my guide bushings for 10 years and needed a refresher.
I just finished building the handrail on my deck ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z and used this great little router to clean up the top rail before the final sanding and stain. It was light weight but packed lots of power. Either size battery didn't seem to make it top heavy and I'm a 64 yr old women so I really appreciated how easy it was to use...................... CORDLESS only way to go !!
Matt, that has to be one of the best explanations on the use of those template guides. Really well articulated and demonstrated. Thanks for sharing this.
+Bill Macfarlane thanks Bill!
Thank you Matthew for the video. Just started with the router and guide bushings. This should speed up the learning curve considerably.
Clear, concise, with meaningful demonstrations and relevant applications. You are a natural teacher. Thanks and now a subscriber.
I just found this - it's the most relevant video on template guide bushings, hands down. It's clear, there's lots of supporting video, and the style is easy to follow.
Matt, thank you for this informative video. As a novice, I had heard of these bushings but have never known how they are used or how versatile they were. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Just "discovered" you on youtube when searching for specific problem..centering cone. Your presentation was great and gave me lots more ideas on how to use router. I am fairly new to woodworking so appreciate seeing (vs reading) tricks/ideas on things that I might need later. The idea of using the router as a drill was a stunner for me; perhaps old hat to some but first time I had been exposed to this concept. Also the simply way to make a mortise template was useful for me. I have subscribed and am overwhelmed buy the volume of your videos. But I will return again and again. Thanks.
+Craig Roberts thank you so much Craig! Glad you found it helpful :)
Excellent information, Matt, and very well presented. I'm just getting into the stage where I'm using my router more frequently and am amazed at what you can do with this tool. You've given me even more ideas. Thanks!
Thank you, Matt. This was very helpful. I short time ago I bought the PORTER-CABLE Dovetail Jig with Mini Template Kit (4216), and the Router Template Guide, 9-Piece (42000). These bushings are great and work well. I'm in the process of building a barn door cabinet for our foyer and went out yesterday and bought a 23/32" straight chute router bit and the 1" OD x 25/32" ID Porter Cable guide bushing. I have to make 3 dado cuts in the top and bottom panels for the cabinet dividers and this was recommended as the best option. I'm building a simple router jig that the 1" bushing will fit into and cut perfect 23/32" dadoes. Your video explains how to use the bushings and offsets which is very helpful. Thank you again! You have a new subscriber!
Thanks Matt. I love how easy you can make mortises for floating tenons.
Nicely done! Been using bushings for years and I’m not sure I could have done nearly as good as you’ve done.
Good explanation. I learned about guide bushings years ago, and never needed them, then over time forgot the details. Now, currently have a project where guide bushings look like the best option.
That is great info. I have a set of guide bushings and never really had a use for them. That is gonna change now. Thanks Matt!
Scott
Awesome!! Thanks Scott!
Same here! A friend gave me a set for my P.C. router.never used them even once. Didn't know what to do with them. That has all changed now. Thanks Matt!
Excellent clear & concise information relating how to use (Bosch's) router template. Having all those tools in the background also helps make one look like an expert!
Great explanations and examples! As someone EU based I very much appreciate the metric units showing up in the video when you mention imperial dimensions. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for making sense of how these bushings work. The offset always gets me stumped.
My wife bought a set of these for me about 3 years ago. Only now do I know what they are for! Thanks a lot for making this video.
Matt, just another fantastic video. I wasn’t even sure what guide bushings are for… I see them for sale all the time but I didn’t know who to ask. Thanks again!
Thanks for all the info in the ask Matt series I appreciate the straight forward approach and the honesty about what tools you use unlike others who push products ( in their defense I know they have bills to pay).
You are gold! The knowledge you share is greatly appreciated!
Great explanation about how to use guide bushings, been looking for instructions on how to use them and this is the best I've seen, thanks
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Matt, super useful !
Nicely done Matt, I've used them for sign making but you've shown uses I never thought of, I'm off to but a set now!!!
You see Matt; this is why you will hit 100k viewers by the end of the year. you are instructing viewers that are 5 or 6 years behind you in knowledge and they are finding your way of demonstration extremely useful. I love it! thanks Matt.
Thank you so much, Oscar! This means a lot to me :)
Awesome, pulled down a Porter Cable template kit Id' forgotten on the shelf for my B&D plunge router and now know it will make it easy to do 1/4" dowel holes with a bit and a scrap board as you demonstrated. I have a nice separate guide for end grain holes, but wanted a better way to get accuracy out on a large mating flat. I'll do the end grain ones first, then use dowel center markers to transfer the locations accurately out onto the flat. Easy peasy
Hi, I just stumbled upon your channel today. This is the first video of yours that I have watched. You have instantly become my favorite teacher/woodworking coach. You demonstrated very clearly exactly what I most desired to learn and understand better. I appreciate that - a lot! You have a new subscriber. I just wish I could be your apprentice for one year. God bless. Thank you for what you are doing.
I'm in the market. Perfect timing! Great stuff Matt.
awesome!
Thanks for all the information, Matt. I was a little unclear about all the uses for guide bushings, and now that im reaching for my router more often, your tips will help me out.
That's what I like to hear, Scott! Thanks!
Thanks Matt, I really appreciate your commentary on bushings.
Thanks Matt, I never new how to use Guide Bushings. You made it so simple, now I want to go out and try.
finally the only video on RUclips which shows how these guides work. thx
I learned something new today, making holes with the bushing and bit! Great info as usual....thanks Matt.
I expect to see you drilling holes in everything in your shop now :)
Well Matt, you hit another one out of the park! Great info and demonstration.
Thanks Neil!
Best video on guide bushings I've seen on RUclips! Amazingly helpful video! So informative and you covered all the issues I had questions on in one video!!
awesome to hear! thanks!
I use guide bushing to make signs from patterns. I found under heavy use they like to work free. A little Teflon tape or locktite does the trick. Awesome video! Thanks.
Jonathan Mutchler
LOL! I had one come loose and the bit chewed the hell out of the threads. Still works but...
thanks man. never used a router before and I didn't immediately understand how they were installed. suspected the correct way and confirmed by your vid.
Awesome!
Wow thank you so much!! You have thought me so much in you're 8:00 minutes video then 75% of the videos on RUclips. Plz keep making them. I am so glad I found you bros!! I can't thank you enough, peace and take care bros.

Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for that very informative video. This is going to help me a lot in my next project 😊
Thank you! I appreciate the clear concise answer.
Excellent explanation!
Good instructional video Matt, as always. Just a note: 1/2" acrylic (bullet resistant glass) makes for great templates. . You can get it free from any glass shop that does commercial windows and glazing. They remove it from banks and storefronts etc. when it gets scratched. Normally it gets tossed in the dumpster. My buddy owns a glass shop and he turned me on to using it. It's actually very easy to buff crystal clear using a headlight reconditioner compound and a power buffer. Clear templates are really nice to use and it makes locating the layout lines much easier. It cuts really easy too on a table saw or router using the lower rpm range.
Btw, there's no such thing as bullet proof glass, it's only bullet resistant. Don't tell any bank tellers. It will stop pistol bullets but that's it. Not a high velocity rifle round.
Awesome tip, Peter! got it. bullet resistant :) haha!
Best video on template guides I've come across. Well done!
6 years later and you helped me. A LOT. ❤️
Awesome! Really useful! I usually use that technique to make holes that receive the guitar pickups! Very well explained!
Nice! I think that's one of my new favorite techniques. It's also faster than a drill bit :)
Excellent demonstration/explanation, as always.
I was searching through a lot of videos and in this video I found it. Excellent explanation
Cool video Matt, I just got a used router and it didn't come with a manual that showed me what these were that came with it. The video explained it well and now I just need to get used to using this new knowledge to come up with some cool new projects using these guide bushings.
