Im not sure if Kasey planned it this way. I assume not as these things come with age and experience, but Am I not Pretty Enough, The Captain, and Ain't No Little Girl make up an amazing trilogy of growth. From feelings of not being good enough, to almost becoming subservient to one's partner, to finally standing up and saying enough!
The Captain was released 1st (2000) It's not about becoming subservient. Kasey said in an interview with Billboard: "the song was misconstrued by some as an example of a young girl trying to solve her problems by subordinating herself to a guy - that was far from the song’s truth. Lots of women come up to me saying, ‘That’s so sexist,’” - “I wrote it … for someone who’s really special to me. It’s kind of through the eyes of myself in about 10 years’ time, when I want to settle down and take it easy and just be no one for a day.” Not pretty enough (2002) Wasn't about being good enough - it was a commentary on the reluctance of commercial radio stations towards playing her music, despite her being an established performer. Ain't no little girl (2016) Was the answer to the questions posed in Not Pretty Enough.
She's such a find isn't she, as is this song, as is this performance. Love it. You're right about the venue being cool. I wish it was in Australia but it's in Tennessee.
Kasey stated that this is "an answer to the question posed by her 2001number one hit song Not Pretty Enough". She actually wrote this song a few years before she recorded it, at the time she felt she wasn't strong enough personally or vocally to own it; she feels that this is the only song written, that really "wrote her".
The definition of "Country" as a music genre in Australia is probably broader than what generally understood in America. Understandable as the whole music industry is much smaller in Australia and the numbers are not there for the many more recognised or named genres like America has and able to support the artists who can concentrate more in these particular areas. Son considering what Australia calls Country music it does have a large base of Country artists with a large following of ardent fans. But not all might considered Country by an American definition and many of Casey's songs might not even be classified as Country by America. Much of what America might call Folk Music or one of its sub-genres, Australia labels as Country,. What America classifies as Country Rock is just part of Country in Australia as that particular genre is simply not big enough with fan numbers to support itself in Australia.
@@MrsRealisticoh no.. in rural Australia country is freaking huge. The similarities between rural America and rural Australia is many actually... The Jackaroo and the cowboy are basically the same thing with different accents...

Thank you that was a beautiful reaction. As part of her upbringing Kasey's musical family (The Dead Ringer Band) actually lived self supported and off the grid on a famous and a huge but remote part of Australia called the Nullarbor plains. That lifestyle has contributed to her being a strong and remarkable human being. That's amazing! I grew up "off grid" as a baby and young kid! It's a different life, but I have so many awesome memories! Thank you for the suggestions! I would love to see some more from her! 😊👍
@@MrsRealisticThat is so cool to hear about you. In November 2000 when Bill Chambers got his first glimpse of the Manhattan skyline from the plane they were on, his daughter leaned over and whispered excitedly to him: "From Nullarbor to New York!" That night, they appeared together on David Letterman's Tonight Show; Bill played guitar while Kasey sang Cry Like A Baby in front of the viewing millions.
@@MrsRealistic The Nullarbor is a 200000 square kilometre isolated, desert like area on a bed of limestone in Australia's south west, The road across it has one stretch that is 90 miles long without a bend. Bill Chambers was born into a staunchly unconventional family in Southend, a small fishing town about 60 kilometers up the coast from Mount Gambier in the south-eastern corner of South Australia. His father never had a salaried job, providing for his family as a fisherman and hunter, and Bill followed the same path. Their daughter Kasey loved their lifestyle saying they had the biggest backyard in the world to play in.
Huh, that's weird. While being aware of Kasey Chambers, as I'm not a country fan, I really only knew a couple of her songs. Since seeing the Eminem cover, I've been checking out her catalogue and I reckon this song is the best of them. Why do you not like this song?
As for her not being known in Australia, she is very much known and loved.

She is amazing - Australia I well know. For their testosterone men but the women are so strong and are the glue !…
She is a great example ❤
She is just leaves it all out there - ever single time.
Thank you so much for reacting to this gem.
Thanks for joining me!
In Australia, we know that our women are often our strength. Kasey is a case in point.

Love it.
You're right about the venue being cool. I wish it was in Australia but it's in Tennessee.
Tennessee isn't too far from us here in Texas! Maybe I'll see it one day!

We're all our own worst critics! Her voice is beautiful!
She is just a phenomenal artist/musician - great reaction & appreciation👏
Thank so much!

Now I would not bet my life on it, but I think that's her brother on guitar....great reaction.
I think some other people had said that as well 😊👍Thank you!
I think that's her Son..
It’s her main guitarist for the last 12 years or so - Brandon Dodd!

This is in the Volcano Room, 333 feet below the ground, inside Tennessee's Cumberland Caverns.
I want to go there!!!
I know music is a subjective topic...but really? Can’t believe someone people see this negatively. Oh well. PS, “Country” is huge in Australia.
Interesting...I had a few aussies tell me that it wasn't as popular over there. I certainly wouldn't know having never been there! 😉
This isn't country 😕

Nullarbor is such a low-key, beautiful ballad.
There's a bit of a "Creep" feel to it.
You mean radiohead?
She wrote this song after the end of an eight year marriage. He never deserved her anyway. 😔
My favourite artist on the planet , seen her 8times live and this is probably the only song that I dont like lol
Give me more suggestions!! I'd love to hear what your favs are!!

She wrote this song after her husband, of eight years, left her. It's OK though. That fool never deserved her anyway.
That's so sad 😞
Sorry, not for me.
To each his own 😊
