Lenovo Thinkpad BIOS lock removal TWO The Sequel T430
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 фев 2020
- This is a sequel to my other BIOS LOCK Removal video that I made a few years ago. Basically you're just resetting the password. It may still ask you for a BIOS password but at least now you will know what it is. And it lets you get into the BIOS to make changes

It may work on Canadian laptops, but removing the CMOS battery on newer laptops have NO EFFECT on any BIOS/UEFI board level passwords !! They are stored on a totally DIFFERENT CHIP - not the BIOS chip. This used to work on older laptops - but no more.
What works now?
Hello Mike,
The Lenovo Lap Top A485 has a different Mother Board Layout
Any recommendations for A485
Thank you
Thank you for the great video. We tried it on a Thinkpad T15 gen2 and it didn’t work. Do you have a work around for these laptops?
Over the years, I have acquired a large collection of Thinkpad X20x and X200 Tablet laptops.
Periodically I update the Windows 10/64 OS on these systems, typically about every 12 months.
But this time I have run into a novel problem.
Three of the X200 Tablet systems will not boot because they seem to have mysteriosly acquired a (Power-on?) passowrd, although I have never set any passwords on any of these laptops, I am the only person with access to these laptops and have updated the OSD on these three laptops many times before and have never had a prompt for a password on booting.
Your 'trick' has not worked on any of these three X200 Tablet laptops.
Any idea how and why these laptops now seem to 'believe' there is a password.
On the X230 you have to short a couple of pins togehter on a chip at just the right instant as it starts up to bypass the lock and get into the bios. There are some videos on youtube that show this.
Hi, Could you help me out with my Thinkpad 13 to remove/bybass the bios please.
Thank you
Thank you for this video Mike. Helped with my bios lock fix!!
Hello Sir!
Do you have a way to remove the password of Lenovo Thinkpad mini 10
Thanks!
Thank you for making the solution easy.
Thanks for sharing. It came at the right time.
It won't let me navigate the password menu, it's stuck on hard disk password, It also won't let me change the time and date.
Would this work if the security chip on thinkpad is activated ?
Would you help me please. Sir, I have a Lenovo thinkpad T61 computer and it asks for the bios code when booting up. Is there a solution because I am in a dilemma and I cannot how to solve the problem? Please, Sir, can you help me find the bios code for my computer? Thank you.
I tried removing cmos battery, but password never reset. also tried to insert wrong password three times for error code, it also did not work. Lenovo G400s
Is this worked on Lenovo Thinkpad R60 ?
Did not work on T440P. I went up to pressing F1. It did not open the BIOS. It showed the screen monitor and the padlog icons. I pressed ENTER key, it opened the BIOS, but when in SECURITY it was imposible to modify the passwords. It showed HARDWARE PASSWORD MANAGER and the SUPERVISOR PASSWORD enabled.
Hello,I have lenovo thinkpad L470.What can ı do bios passport unlock?Thank you.
My laptop doesn't have a cmos battery so how do I reset my bios and remove the bios password
This method does not work as bios lock is stored on chip i tried on 3 T-430 units only date is removed but admin password even after keeping one hour t430 it still boot same bios locked
I did it with lenovo x1 carbon 3 gen but it doesn't work. Removed enternal battery and disconnected the bios battery but the Bios password still there. Somebody please help. Thanks.
I have tried to follow your advice but it is still not working, my baby is lenovo t440p
hi there, came across a w520 but the seller (found it in recycling i guess) says there is some kind of lock and cannot boot from the primary disk (there is no disk anyway) and the machine only boots from usb. Is this a supervisor password case? What do you think?
Best way to find out is to try and get into the bios by pressing f1 (or f2?). You might be able to adjust the boot option
Where is the CMOS on the Lenovo 390E?
Thanks,
Murray.
It still doesn't give me access to the BIOS even after recognizing that the time is wrong. It somehow auto fixes the time.
is this working with e530?
i love unlocking the BIUS lock!
Very, very nice. I was about to trow out a lenovo T430s, but this trick worked. Amazing.
Hey @Mike Dancy
Since you are going to recycle them. Can i buy one T430 in good condition from you? (pref with no bios locks or supervisor locks).
Best Regards,
PS: i was searching info for t430's and this video popped up in the recommendation. i didnt knew that lenovo has these kinds of locks :(
I generally donate machines that I don't use for local school kids.
Sir do you have a video on thinkpad x100e for unlocking the bios password or its the same procedure? Thanks
I do not. it's a different kind of computer. I do have a x100 video I think. I wasn't too impressed with that machine.
does the padlock on the screen disappear?
Hi man. I did that tanks to u. But What I have to do to overcklock my CPU? and do I need to do some bios setting to whitelist wifi card?
Thanks again
looking forward to hearing from u.
mate maybe i can help you if u have a xx30 series
google 1vyrain, it is a bios unlocking/flashing tool which will allow you to remove the whitelists and allow you to overclock ur cpu, if im not mistaken u can only overclock 37xx and 38xx , but you can find that info on 1vyrain website
good luck mate! keep me posted
Does this method work with T480?
Its not work in Lenovo ip330. Do you have any another tricks
I've tried this method on my Lenovo ThinkPad x250 but it did say the F1 or esc to continue so I pressed F1 but it's asking for the bios/administration password still?
I have both (I got from CMD prompt) but none of them are working
That is odd. Was it a Co-workers laptop who quit?
@@MikeDancy it's secondhand from a company, i purchased a new motherboard which got rid of the supervisor password but still no luck - i imagine I'm going to have to buy a brand new harddrive along with a new windows 10 to fix my issue...
Did it work with t420
it still ask me for the password even the date and time is deleted
I know I'm late now 😢 but how about T520?
what about a E520 lenovo even sent me the original cds 4 of them they sais it would work just insert them !!NOTHING!!!
HELP
Really enjoy the videos. Sadly I am not getting the same results with my T60.
Looked into shorting out the EEPROM, but am unable to even find it to do this.
Am I missing something? New to ThinkPads
is it a supervisor lock or a bios lock on your T60? I have a T61 with computrace on it. I should play around with it and see how it works.
@@MikeDancy Supervisor lock based on what I have seen. I found that the 8-pin SOP, (P24808) for the T61 is located on the back of the mother board. However; when I pulled the mother board for my T60, that SOP is no where to be found. Based on the information I have found so far I did find the via hole locations on the front of the T60's mother board for the SCL and SDA pins along with ground. The problem is I don't see the corresponding EEPROM on the opposite side. I attempted to run the 'shorting of the pins" process using the found points, but was not successful after many attempts. I have not found any one so far that has been successful using this method for the T60. There was one source I found that said the EEPROM would have to be reflashed.
Hello Sir!
Do you have a way to remove the password a T460s?
Thanks!
I have the exact same problem and would appreciate a fix please if anyone has one. Thanks
Did you test this as said with an t450? Would love to hear!
It didn’t work with a T450s
Thinkpad t60 will work?
How about t440p ?
This didn't work for me. It brings up the dialogue about date and time, but then brings me right to the password screen. I left it unplugged for at least 30 mins to be safe.
Hey, i opened up my x1 yoga, as it’s bios locked, and didn’t find a cmos battery. i bought it locked so... can i just get a cmos and get it working again)
If you bought it locked then it’s probably stolen
Hello, this method does not work for me, I do not know why and I do not find any solutions. My laptop is Lenovo ThinkPad L560sixth generation . What do you advise me? Thank you in advance
Is it a T430?
Dejo mi comentario por que gracias a ti estoy reviviendo mi viejo laptop

it is not working by removing cmos battery
I'm not familiar with that model
Hi mike, I have an L480 ? Will it work on this one ? And if it won’t what should I do then ?!
Maybe you should try this method and find out.
So I've gained some t430's and 1 t420, while the hard drive is out I am able to use this method and load up my boot disk. However, when I put the HD back into the system the bio lock is again present. Do you have any insight on how to get past this?
Sounds like Computrace. Look it up. It’s a pain in the ash
The presented method deletes the BIOS password. If you wanna clear a supervisor password you have to short the pins 3 and 4 with Ground right before Pressing F1 After Start up. Search others Videos with supervisor passwords. Worked for me :D
Good info, thank you.
I have been looking for a method forever.
I have same problem in Lenovo thinkpad X200, what should I do?
sell it and buy a unlocked one.
how to remove supervisor password from lenovo x250 do you know?
No idea. Did you buy it with a password on it?
will this work on my lenovo t440s?
Hello i have also lenovo t440s what you did to fixed?
Hi, Mike, it's an excelent option, maybe on old lenovos?? i have a levono flex 11 2019, but i try the same( password bios) to fix and doesn't work .
My Thinkpad edge 0328-3lg is not booting
It still don’t work I have to enter the password
Thank You!
Hi man have you tried with X131e ? is it the same process ?
Have u found the solution
Does this method still works on thinkpad t460?
Probably not. Depends on the lock.
Hi, I have screen locked problem in Lenovo ThinkPad X201, should I do the same way?
It might. You can try it but this info is a bit out dated. You may need to short the BIOS. I do love the x201 though
@@MikeDancy thank you sir
I have a thinkpad yoga 14 same problem
FYI, tried this on a T400 and it bricked the laptop so beware.
It reset the time and date and now tells you to change that in BIOS but BIOS still unavailable so won't boot past the BIOS lock symbol.
I got to the reset time/date, but when I hit F1 it asks me for a bios password and the password it was prior, is no longer working. Any ideas?
LoL solved. Zero password. Just hit enter.
But there's a supervisor password and I can't even change the date and time now.
better call a supervisor.
@@MikeDancy ROFL ok. You got any? Also, it randomly let me into windows, then windows apparently updated the bios date/time stamp and everything is groovy now. Not even a query for the BIOS pass.
does NOT work for the T450 or 450s
how about thinkpad r52 bios lock.thanks in advance
That's a little too new for me.
Could you help us with Bios removal for T540s?
Nope.
Didn’t work got a T450s got any tips?
No tips sorry. Guess it depends on the machine. I have a t450s as well. I should try it on mine. How did you end up with a locked bios?
Thank you so much!!!
Does not work on t440p
how to reset password from Lenovo L560? there is a supervisor!
I have the same computer (Lenovo T430) but it doesn't work !!
Thank you
I got a p50 lenovo will it work on that??
nope
Can I apply this in lenovo thinkpad L410
I'm not sure. Try it. I'm always curious how so many people end up with BIOS locked laptops though
@@MikeDancy it's likely they buy them second hand, most thinkpads come from the beginning from companies which have bios locks almost always.
That's why when you buy them second hand there's a big chance it's locked. Mine is a L460 and is locked. Had the cmos out for around 24h did not help. It found out that time got fucked up but password still there.
just got a T480s it's bios locked, is there any hope for me?
it should still be under warranty if you can contact Lenovo
@@MikeDancy Contacted them they said they can't help and that's just how some of the T480s's ship, it does boot windows but only windows, i can not run linux on a usb drive or access the bios so i'm locked to windows 10.
hey @mike dancy . i was looking for a t430 in good condition . i already have one and i was looking for another . can i get one from you?.
and of course i am a 13 yr old learning linux.
I don't have any spares right now but I'd suggest checking out facebook marketplace. you should be able to find one pretty reasonably.
ohk thanks
Does not work...
Dont work for my models t43
T43? That came out before I was born
@@MikeDancy hahah,yes :)
Will it work on Lenovo T440’s?
Tried it . Doesn't work
@@gratitudemmola8134 and what you did to fix it?
Hi Mike, I have the exact same laptop Lenovo T430 and really enjoyed your video but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I inherited the laptop from my company and not being tech savvy I removed it from my company domain onto my home workgroup and now I'm locked out. It keeps asking for the administrator password which I don't know. Tried system restore but there are no restore points. The bios is hard locked and although I can access it I'm unable to change anything. Do you think leaving the battery out for longer than five minutes will make any difference? Failing that I will need to short pins on the EEPROM which I'm not confident enough to perform. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you
If it’s an administrator password, you’ll need to short out the board near the cmos battery. It has a A14 tag or something like that. There are videos out there how to do it. Or you could replace the motherboard
Does any method work for T440p?
try it and see. i dont' see why it wouldn't unless it's an administrator lock
@@MikeDancy It must be a administrator lock then. Thanks!!!!
@@MikeDancy I tried it on T440p thinkpad and it didn't work.
Hey man I'm about to test this on that let's see
Sir plz. T440p bios remove salution.
Sorry but I don’t have a t440 to test it on
Mike Dancy ?
Hi I have a Lenovo yoga 260 it allows me to go into the bios menu etc, to security without removing the battery like you did, by pressing f12 is sufficient on mine, but when I press enter on 1 of the security features like password or fingerprint etc it won't allow me to go to enable or disable on the opposite side with the arrow keys. Please can someone help me I'm desperate, great video Thankyou and you got a new subscription.
i think that I made a video about the Yoga 260 but I don't recall if it was about the BIOS or not
@Mike Dancy thankyou so much for replying back. You got 2 videos based on the yoga 260, 1 reviewing the yoga 260 and 1 is dual booting the yoga 260. Can you please suggest anything that might work for me to get to the opposite side of the bios security page were it allow you to enable/disable security features like password, fingerprint etc etc, I tried going to the enable/disable keys with arrow keys and tab key but it won't allow me, my knowledge of computers couldn't be more basic so I would really appreciate your help to remove/bypass password on my Yoga 260. Many thanks great video.
Will it work on a T410 or T420?
try it and see. i dont' see why it wouldn't unless it's an administrator lock
@@MikeDancy ok. I ordered a T410 that says Bios locked but the seller hasn't responded to elaborate.

Sir 470 L don,t removel bios password

maybe it's a stolen laptop?
Same with mine it just changes time only... Mine is not stolen and I still have the windows password the problem is accessing the bios to enable Bluetooth
i have a THINKPAD L450...AND ITS BIOS is locked...pls help me..
could you help with Lenovo x 270 password removal please
Nope sorry. That’s a newish model. It should still be under some kind of warranty if you call Lenovo.
So this cant on x270? Any solution?
T440p
This didn't work, unfortunately. I unplugged the CMOS battery for 35 minutes while following the instructions as you mentioned - during the next bootup, I received the same lock on the screen. I'm using a Lenovo X240 laptop, by the way.
Somehow I was able to get into the BIOS, but the Security section is grayed out, and the Supervisor Password status is Enabled. I read somewhere else that I should leave the CMOS battery unplugged for an hour. I'll do that next. Any other suggestions in addition to that?
Still didn't work. Any additional suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Doesn't work on lenovo T440
Not useful.
Suggestion instead of waiting 5 minutes after removing the batteries how about pressing the on button to discharge the power as this works.
never heard of that before
does this work on the x230t?
It depends if it’s a bios lock or an admin lock. Check the comments. I think someone talked about it before
Does this work for all lenovo thinkpads?
Nope
will this work on my lenovo K2450?
