Helped me out a lot! I bought my ThinkPad second hand and I was able to get a password on it. Apparently, after downgrading it (even though I had erased my password) and getting through 1vyrain, the old owner's password was still on it (well, that is more so my assumption). This totally helped getting rid of that and finally getting here! This totally deserves my like.

Got a used t430 and when I downgraded the BIOS the password came back. Was looking into eeprom programmers when I found this video. Your instructions were clear and worked perfectly first try! Used a pair of pointy tweezers like yours.

this video saved my day, the laptop had the pass configured to access the bios, I mean, the laptop can boot normally, however I couldn't change any configuration on the bios, I followed this tutorial and worked like a charm, but in my case, the hard drive is encrypted with bitlocker, so, after the hard drive was inserted and the laptop booted windows asked me for the recovery key, luckily I have the recovery key on my microsoft account and windows could boot again, my advice, if the hard drive is encrypted with bitlocker would be a good idea to have the recovery key in hand if needed.

    BIG BIG THANKS!
I tried this operation once a month ago and failed , the soldering look different on my board and I did not understood the timing clearly.
Today I gave it another try watching the video more carefully and IT WORKED!
HOW TO : *No more than 1sec after powering up, do the shortcut and HOLD F1 at the same time* (to enter bios).
Bios opens almost immediately with a welcome overlay and the greyed unavailable options FINALLY became accessible.
From there I could follow the resetting process.
The money I just saved will be used for other parts upgrades.. ips screen/ram/ssd.

Works great on W530 as well, BIOS chip is at bottom of the board, about below the Intel PCH/right side of mousepad.
Not those 25L6406 and 25L3206 next to the Intel PCH on top!!!
Was stupid and tried it first on 25L3206, messed the BIOS (5 beeps) and I had to clone BIOS with CH341/flashrom from another W530.
Was quite lucky&happy, it didn't destroy Intel PCH....
Cloned BIOS and shorted bottom pins on right side (Pin5-6) right after splash screen, Bios unlocked!

You may help me on this one: I am trying to boot this exact same model from a USB (a fedora Linux image to install) but the computer freezes during the boot menu when I insert the USB stick and I might be doing something wrong in the BIOS Menu. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does it freeze with other boot disks? Might be some incompatibility.
