In this tutorial, I demonstrate a simple trick you can use to bypass a BIOS password and install windows on a BIOS locked computer. This is not about how to remove the BIOS password from any computer.
For most everyday Windows users, you almost never have to do anything with your BIOS until when you want to install or reinstall Windows on your PC, and that is what this tutorial is about. So if you have a computer that the BIOS is password protected and you want to install or reinstall Windows through a USB device but can’t get across to change the boot order to boot from the USB, then this could be the solution for you.

the bios lock isnt stored on the hard drive. its stored in the bios chip. the only way to get rid of it is by actually flashing the bios with the driver from the manufacturer's website or replacing the chip on the mother board. this is utter bs and is confusing beginners. the issue with this laptop is the hp security lock which is stored on the laptop.
Because your hard drive has been cracked Then use a new Hard drive or SSD Or bypass it or buy a new CMOS battery

4 years later, I came across this video and it helped me a lot. I was upgrading from hdd to ssd and system needed bios password. My problems are solved.
I also changed from old ssd to a new ssd but I m not able to get through anything without that admin password

nice easy trick, unless if the USB boot is disabled in the BIOS ;-) lol or if it is PXE boot only for example etc
This worked for me perfectly when I wanted to install a brand new SSD on a BIOS locked laptop.
The only thing that was different was that I had to select the USB install stick from the boot device options (it magically appeared when I put in this new SSD!)

I did all this even removed battery and jumpers and my HP Thin Client T630 is still asking for setup password which I don’t have. Any other method to get this working?

Unfortunately it took me days to find this out for myself last year.
I have a HP Compaq 6735s with locked bios.
If i formatted the drive NTFS from memory it still wouldn't let me boot from USB. I had to have the hard drive without a format (raw) for the laptop to allow me to boot from USB.
Has anyone found a way to remove the bios? Other than removing the cip and flashing it or getting hp to send you the custom scm.bin file.
I will call hp and ask for that on monday when they are open. I think its not good that HP only have customer support 5 days a week. Not sure what other brands have. Happy new year everyone.

Hey I did it all but the BIOS didn't get removed but we figured our the code and if we turn off and back on the laptop we have to re do the BIOS password
Can i do this on a dell inspirom 700m and install linux with a usb?
I just put a new SSD m.2 on BIOS locked lenovo X1 gen 4 and connect a USB installation windows and it automatically boot from usb drive. For normal laptop i don't need to do anything in the bios. As long as I'm able to use the laptop normally it fine. Don't worry even the date and time reset it still can setup in the desktop later and sync into BIOS. The only problem is i can't use fingerprint lock function.
When I first got my used laptop (Vista) I was somehow able to put Win 10 on it but when I tried to hook up the wireless, it wasn't showing. All the hardware is there but no wireless. After trying everything to engage wireless I finally realized it must have been shut off in the bios but when I tried to turn it on in the bios, I couldn't get into it because there was a previous password. I now have a laptop that I can hardwire the net but not get the wirelss turned on. Any tricks?

I have a SSD that is password protected but I am not able to bypass to boot from live cd to clean the password. I can't even go BIOS setup or do anything if I don't type the SSD password which I don't remember. Do you have an idea how to bypass it? Thanks in advance.

this doesnt make sense... you cant diskpart on the drive your running windows session on? and what does the harddrive have to do with the bios password?
oh i get it.. i was thinking to much and my problem is usb booting is disabled and this is commen sense to take the hd out so it boots the next avalible so thats why i didnt get this

Bought a used LENOVO B40 - 30 with an operating system designed for the hearing impaired called ZVRS with a locked BIOS ADMIN PASSWORD. Can't load WINDOWS only Z5 which is part of ZVRS. Will removing the HDD and using your technique described in your video work? Thanks

What if booting from any USB ports are disabled in BIOS, or if internal HDD is encrypted?
Then you are f cked.
Install Windows on another machine with a similar chipset (Intel to Intel, AMD to AMD). Then place the drive in your BIOS locked machine and update the drivers.

Yes, it will boot from the USB
Try it and see. If it doesn work with the drive formatted try a raw drive as that is what worked for me. Happy new year

it doesnt makes sense that the bios password (from the motherboard) can be changed by formating the ssd and i won't even try it out because its just not logical

The bios was still locked
It doesn't, the BIOS holds a boot order, all we're doing is replacing the data of the primary boot media. Doesn't change the password, it's not unlocked but you can still use it to some extent.
