My (hotel) room has the shape of a cage
The sun passes his arm through the window
    The porters at my door
    Les chasseurs à ma porte
    Like the little soldiers
    Comme les p'tits soldats
    Who want to seize me
    Qui veulent me prendre
I don't want to go to work
    Je ne veux pas travailler
I don't want to have some lunch
    Je ne veux pas déjeuner
    I want to just for----get
    Je veux seulement oublier
    And then I smoke
    Et puis je fume
I already knew the scent of love
A million roses would not be as much
Now only one flower in my surroundings

    Et puis je fume
    I'm not proud of that
Je ne suis pas fière de ça
Life that wants to kill me
    Vie qui veut me tuer
It's beautiful to be oh so nice
    C'est magnifique être sympathique
    but I'll never be that
Mais je ne le connais jamais
I don't want to go to work
    Je ne veux pas travailler

    • @geraudbroussaud894
      @geraudbroussaud894 5 лет назад +27

@@Alex__19 No Alex, the "Chasseurs" are not shoes. It's a mistranslation : the " Chasseurs" are the Hotel employees that are there to fullfill the guests' requests (carry luggage, fetch something, post a letter etc...). They are found in luxury hotels. We French and Belgians should be very familiar with that : it's the job that occupies Spirou, the famous comic character with the red livrée ;-). A character that Most French and Belgians know at least of reputation.
That's why, they are lined up like little soldiers, little soldiers ready to grant every wish from the narrator / singer :-)

And I love the song, after stopping it five seconds in, so there!

This song was inspired to Pink Martini by a short Guillaume Apollinaire poem (The hotel).
Sympathetic (Pink Martini) - English Translation (I think this song talks about Mata Hari)
My room has the shape of a cage
The sun passes its arm through the window
Hunters (porters, grooms) on my doorstep
    Like the little soldiers
    Who want see me take
I don't want go to work
I don't want to have breakfast
    I only want to forget
    And then I smoke
I already knew the scent of love
    A million roses
    Wouldn't embalm so much
    Now only one flower
    In my surroundings
    Makes me sufferer
I don't want go to work
I don't want to have breakfast
    I only want to forget
    And then I smoke
    I'm not proud of that
    Life that wants kill me
    That's fantastic
    Be sympathetic
But I have never know him
I don't want go to work
I don't want to have breakfast
    I only want to forget
    And then I smoke
    I'm not proud of that
    Life that wants kill me
    That's fantastic
    Be sympathetic
But I have never know him
I don't want go to work
I don't want to have breakfast
    I only want to forget
    And then I smoke ...
