Tommy’s rant at the end was spot on. Because of the import tax and the pricing this places you in the territory of TRD pro, raptor, rhino, TRX , Gladiator rubicon, ZO2, 4TX. Looks like a good truck but no one should spend that amount of money on that vehicle…20-30k more than the ones listed above….just no.

All of the dealerships are in big metropolitan areas. I will argue that the vast majority of the US population lives within 2-3 hours drive at max from one of these 20+ dealerships. There are two dealers within 2 hours of me in opposite directions.

For the cost it needs to be insanely better at everything compared to a gladiator, and it simply doesn’t. The only cars that get a pass for price are insanely limited sports cars that are meant to be collectible, not used like this truck.

The crazy thing is that there are people who are trying to have the speed limit warning made mandatory for all cars in the US. That's waaaay too much Karen!
Yeah, I’m fairly liberal, but I can’t get behind nanny warnings on vehicles. Just wait 20 more years, when the vehicles are driving for us & then the speeds will be dealt with by the car’s computer. I won’t care if I’m sitting there, watching a movie on my phone while my car drives me around & the car itself doesn’t need any audible warnings, since it doesn’t have ears, lol. I like the one in the Ram when it can be programmed. I set to warn me when I was at least over 10mph over the posted. Sometimes these small towns drop it from 55 to 35 real quick and you don't notice it.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Probably would have to shift the exhaust though. If they aren't gonna put the tire back there, might as well fill it with something useful. Especially at 14 mpgs
@@meanP90 it’s probably the same frame as the wagon, but with the extension for the bed. So to save money I bet they didn’t put a tire mount under the bed because it is mounted to the back of the rear door.
Hello Tommy. Thanks for your great review as always. I understand that you normally will consider 4x4 offroaders after offroading as entertainment because lot of people in the US are using them for this. But in many European countries we are not allowed fo0r motorized driving in forests, mountains or fields outside public roads. And engineers like me and contracters who are allowed for offroad driving to reach worksites, have much of the same requirements. I have sometimes been dreaming of a Land Cruiser dobbelt cabiner pickup model, because such a vehicle could save me for bringing a trailer in many of my projects, and in my work such a vehicle would be more importent for me than the reduced brake over angle and turning radius which of course is importend for the hard core off roaders. Thanks. Best Regards from Arne in Norway
Chicken like tax goes the other way as well. In the Philippines, I was looking at a new RAM Rebel for over 100K USD (US Spec about $60K) due to their 40% tax for non-ASEAN factory built vehicles. I decided instead on a Thailand built next-gen Ranger Raptor for about $45K USD instead.
I’m traveling this week, and my rental was a Jeep Gladiator. While driving around town, I kept hearing this metal on metal clunking from the rear. When I climbed under it, I noticed a bracket attached to the swaybar had a broken weld. I had to call the rental company and ditched it immediately. Couldn’t believe it and I took a pic as proof.
Great video. The clicks, beeps, bings, and bongs would be a dealbreaker for me. Every new vehicle i have been interested in over the last 2 years is too electronic, too many screens, too many nannies, too expensive, etc. guess i am keeping my old Land Cruiser 200.
@@bk27117 My guess is I’m atleast 10 years and 150k miles away from any significant repair on my 200, based on my experience with my other Land Cruisers. My 1998 100, that I have owned since new, has been reliable with no major repairs over the last 26 years / 460k miles. It’s all about maintenance.
@@bk27117luckily it's only ~6k and a day's work to replace the transmission, and that's with a built unit from IPT. Then you're good for another 250-350k. Seems worth it to keep a better suv on the road.
While its not my kind of truck, I figure its a vehicle for the Gladiator owner who needs to drive 400 miles a day. Ultimately the Gladiator will be slightly better off road though. There are four Grenadiers (three SUV and one truck) that I regularly see near my home and those that have purchased them were all previously long term owners of LR Defenders. From what I can see where I live they are being sold to farmers who need to max out its towing capacity on and off road and who need to drive through a lot of mud in winter.
Okay, so first up: I like your channels. I subscribed most of them. Now , I live in Europe, where this truck is built. But I think you have a much too narrow point of view. 1 - This truck is sold worldwide and has to function worldwide. Look at all those rural regions outside the US and you won't find your TRD's, Raptor's or whatever outside of city boundaries. Those trucks are built and sold for the US and Canada, not for Africa, Europe or South America. 2 - Because the EU has different laws, all new vehicles sold in the EU have to have a speed warning, which you have to shut off after every new start. This also applies to US trucks sold in the EU. And the speed limit in the rest of the world is lower than in the US and EU and the roads aren't that good either. 3 - Electronics and so called " LUXURY requirements " like electric seats with ventilation aren't really useful for those areas for which Ineos built this truck for. 4 - And YEAH: the " Chicken Tax " is a joke. Some companies like Toyota built factories to avoid it, but most other car manufacteries couldn't care less for competing in a globally uninteresting niché model. So, please: I know you love your Trucks, especially those midsize and large ones. But you will not find a Gladiator in an african desert or in the pampas of Argentine. You will find Toyota and the early Defender. Just simple and reliable. So please try to be a little bit more objective for the world outside the " North American Territories "😉😜! Keep on streaming !👍👌
Kudos to Ineos for bringing the passion project to life. It takes a lot of guts to eschew the bean counters opinions and say "We don't care, we're doing what's right, no compromises.". I give them credit for that.
The break your thumbs thing is such a ridiculous justification of the sub-par steering. Has anyone seen dozens of Toyota, jeep or land rover drivers walking around with broken thumbs??
Oh. Tommy I have a 2019 ZR2 with the Duramax and all, I mean all, the available AEV components including high mark fender flares to clear 35’s with no lift. The only thing keeping me from trading it in on a quartermaster is the diesel engine which has been magic. If you pay More than $91,500+- for a Quartermaster you bought too much junk not suited for its purpose. But I’m not sure what you mean that “it has to be good”. Good like Colorado that you can’t drive through a car wash without collapsing the roof. Good like a Tacoma that breaks the first time off road. Good like a Tundra that has thousands of trucks with engine replacement recalls. The fact is those trucks don’t matter and the only thing you have to ask is the Quartermaster better enough than the Gladiator to justify the increased cost. To my mind resoundingly, YES!
There’s a guy in my town with the station wagon version. Really a cool looking car. Thank you to the billionaire who made this a reality. The engine was a good move the b58 was codeveloped with Toyota. They twisted bmws arm to make sure it was up to Toyota spec. Probably the last great bmw inline 6.
Down the street from my office there is a dealership that sells Maserati and Ferrari. Recently they just started to sell these beasts as well. It almost looks like they swapped out the Maserati sales for these things. They have so many on the lot. This and the previous video have been very informative. I was wondering what the heck these were. Now I know. Thanks!
Very satisfied Grenadier owner here. I just don’t think the Quartermaster will take off in the US - certainly not with the chicken tax (although I hear they’re looking into US production options) - but I think even without the tax, it wouldn’t be a huge hit. It just doesn’t check enough US truck boxes (bed size, hauling capacity, etc etc) to purely play in the truck category - so then it’s an OFFROAD truck, but really more of an overland truck . . . you see the problem. And it doesn’t have the versatility of a Grenadier. So it’s a niche of a niche of a niche - at a crazy high price. Probably useful to game wardens in Africa though! Honestly even my Ineos dealer is skeptical.
Do you think they will bring the utility (2-seater with room in the back end) station wagon into the USA? It has a substantially lower price in the UK than the regular Grenadier station wagon.
What are you talking about? It's a midsize truck. And as a midsize it meets or beats the competition. It's got towing capacity of like 7716 lbs, and payload of about 1600+ if memory serves. That's more than or equal to the competition. Bed size and cab size, are minor issues, they're to he expected in this segment. I think the main problem is the upfront cost and the fuel economy.
@@meanP90 Basically equal to the competition (which is essentially a failure for this vehicle's use case and primary design intent), while being way more expensive, worse to drive, worse to get services, less features, worse on gas, and a horrible range (also a design intent failure). The whole vehicle is a mess as a product in the NA market.
@@is6566zero chance - unless they can move production into NAM. The whole point on the commercial fleet offering is affordability and durability- but all commercial configurations AND trucks are hit with the chicken tax. @@meanP90it’s a 5’ bed - AND has the spare in the bed. It’s not going to be a hauler in the US - ever. It’s an off-road option - but again, even there, it’s more overlanding. And remember, I LOVE my Grenadier and want Ineos to be wildly successful. Quartermaster just isn’t going to make it in the US. That was too far a stretch for them.
@@HelicopterDad-u5bdo you think that is unique? 😂 plenty of countries in Europe have similar speed limits, and some have higher. 85 mph speed limits are the exception in the US and not the norm at all.

I'm constantly filling my washer fluid reservoir. Like every other week. We have a lot of bugs in my area and the flat glass is a magnet for them. I saw the low washer fluid warning when Tommy was driving.
It's a super cool rig, but I'll be honest I am not totally sure why anyone would pick this thing over a gladiator or any of the off-road trim pick-ups in the USA. It can tow more which is cool and technically has more power but for the cost it's just real hard to justify unless you got a bunch of extra cash on hand. This feels like a vehicle you pick for a very specific reason vs general off-road utility. I would put this in the same vein as a Land Cruiser. Low volume, nails it specific niche perfectly, costs a boat load. Time will tell if these things are worthy of some legendary stories like the Land Cruiser. Wishing Ineos the best on this one!
If you are comparing this to a Gladiator you are completely missing the point of this vehicle. Sure it looks like a smaller bed offroader but its rocking 1 ton axels and you can leave the dealer with 1 ton beefy axels, winch, lift, second battery system, safari windows, a German engine, g class grade build for likely less than it would cost you to buy a gladiator and modify it to have 1 ton axels with lockers and a winch and all of the other stuff, and at the end of the day it will still be a jeep and none of that stuff will be covered under warranty. When comparing prices of this you are trying to fir it into the low range category of consumer trucks. Compare this to an actual raptor or bronco raptor or g wagon or new Lexus GX or any other truck with 1 ton axels and you start to see that this isn't priced as bad as you might think for what you get.
No chicken tax in Australia but we have plenty of other taxes. Quartermaster is A$110k vs. RAM 1500 A$120k but here the competition is the Landcruiser 79 supposedly $80k but good luck finding one at that price.
Holy crap! The price is outlandish. I have a Gladiator Overland with a Rockridge build and it was 6k lower than the base on this. 6k more and I could've had the diesel but they were just to hard to get at the time. It's a hard no for this thing
Ya, and for $6K why would you want nearly double the payload, full floating rear axle, double cardan front axle, pitman arm drag link and tie rod that looks like it came out of a one ton truck, a frame so robust it likely won’t bend in half trailering off-road like gladiator and Colorado, unmatched electrical options including 500 amp at the rear, massive roof capacity……………I mean why would you do that?

@@SaltShack do you own one? Maybe you can change my opinion on ownership experience. I over paid for my Gladiator and have always been honest with my opinion
Yeaaaa.... nah. Woulda been nice to have kept the same wheelbase with a shorter bed. That tail hangover isn't cool for an offroader. Need them angles. Also, need a sliding rear window to use for camper shells and what not so can use the cab heat or a/c if needed. Rear safari roof windows... or better yet pop out roof panels for front rear... so can go topless like bronco/jeep. Then could have modular safari window panels if wanted.
I’d take it any day over any of the other midsized trucks for reliable (apart from the Toyota), but also for everything else it offers. Plus, they won’t be here long, so buying it now is a future investment
Gladiator is worse? Yep. But for $75k, you can buy a Gladiator, fully soundproof and line the top and cab ($1000), add a supercharger ($7500), add portals to the axle ends ($12,000) add a new set of wheels & tires ($3000), custom Katzkin leather interior ($2000), and Acuair suspension ($6500), and still be less than an INEOS.

700kg payload and less on the Quartermaster is just not competitive, certainly in Europe compared to say a South African build Ford Ranger which has a 1040kg or one Imperial ton [2250lbs] payload. This has severe tax implications in the UK and many other countries where double cab pickups must have 1040kg payload or more in order to qualify for 20% VAT rebate. The Quartermaster will have very few sales in Europe and, truth be told, Grenadier wagons have already peaked and are not now selling particularly well.
Thank God he did! If anyone of you chaps know Mr Radcliffe, then can you please give him a hug from me for producing such vehicle?!!!! Ps; please bring the other Grenadiers to the us. Don’t gyp us on the accesorios department!
This thing base is more than double the price of a well specd gladiator, it definitely can’t be considered a “competitor” in any true sense. Most people won’t cross shop this between the Gladiator, they might look at the Mercedes G-Wagon and Land Rover Defender, or even the new Toyota Land Cruiser and pick this because the Ineos Grenadier comes with the Quartermaster pickup specification and those don’t. At best the most comparable vehicle would be an Rivian R1T, but even then that’s an electric vehicle so the consumer base would be wildly different I imagine.
A Rubicon Gladiator can spike 65K, so not quite double. The reason I want one is the same reason I have a Grenadier, I do not like breaking crap. And the Gladiator is not very strong. The Quarter Master is all 1 ton stuff.
Just thinking about the situation why the spare tyre is not underneath? When the truck gets stuck in the trails or sits in the frame you can’t get the spare tire out. I in general think that putting spare tyres underneath the vehicle is the worse idea ever.

Before having watched: idk, to me it just doesn't have the magic of a Gladiator. It's very subjective and hard to explain, but to me Wrangler looks modern - Gladiator looks retro. This Ineos thing looks old. Not retro - old. Opposite to how Rivian R1T looks miles better than R1S despite having the exact same design except for the roof, Ineos, following its biggest inspiration Land Rover Defender (old), looks amazing only in its SUV version. And if not for the looks, I have no idea what for to buy an Ineos over Jeep, Ford or Chevy.
But you also have to deal with chevy/gm problems. I had a 2017 duramax zr2. Engine was good. But electrical trouble, heater stopped working, one touch up window worked when it wanted to. USB port charger worked half of the tme. Clunk in the front end over bumps. Just became one thing after another.

People in these pickup, suv and car pages are always saying they want a diesel. Outside of the US, diesels are a thing. But US sales of a diesel powered grenadier would probably top out around only 1000 at most units. Where a gas one will sell about 10 times or more.

For the same price, Ill take ‘purpose built utilitarian’ over luxury all day every day. That’s why I bought a new Land Cruiser 200 for $95k when I could have bought a Range Rover, MB G500, Cadillac Escalade, or other similarly priced vehicle (at the time). I don’t buy a 3-5 year vehicle. If I can’t reliably drive it for decades it isn’t worth any price. Amortized over the life of the vehicle, the Ineos is a bargain compared to just about anything else. That being said, I’ll buy Toyota every time.
@@stonepa thank you for the reply, I'm not trying to be rude or argumentative, but...why (for 100k) does it have to be a choice between utilitarian or luxury?...which really wasn't my point. My point was that one could buy a GX550 Overtrail+ (personally, I'd wait a year or two) for much less money than any Grenadier and get 99% of the off-road capability with 99% better on-road capability and also luxury (or a new Land Cruiser, or an old Land Cruiser, or a 4Runner, or so many other vehicles). I really just think Ineos is a confusing product with no real target audience (outside of rich people who have money to burn on a novelty item). I mean, they're not going to take any Jeep shares: Wranglers are as good-to-better off-road and even slightly better on-road, Cherokees are way more on-road & luxury focused, cheap jeeps are...so much cheaper. They aren't going to take Toyota shares: a 5th gen 4Runner will do anything this can do off-road and better on-road + more luxury. and on and on. If Grenadiers were prices evenly with 4Runners, I still don't see very many people choosing one over a 4Runner (I wouldn't)...but 2x the cost of a 4Runner is so wild. The sole selling point of any Grenadier is that it's different and quirky. That might work well in dating, but I can't see that being a recipe for success in the auto industry. Just waiting for the news that Ineos pulls out of NA.
Im curious about the aftermarket support for this. Things like suspension, bumpers, accessories etc. If it falls short there, it won't be something you see a bunch of during offroad trips

It’s all about the vehicle classification. Your 4Runner isn’t a truck it’s classified as a passenger car so isn’t under the purview of the tax which was for trucks or vans. The suv version of the Ineos isn’t taxed like this pickup version.

The crazy thing is that there are people who are trying to have the speed limit warning made mandatory for all cars in the US. That's waaaay too much Karen!
There’s supposed to be a remote kill switch starting in 2026…
Yeah, I’m fairly liberal, but I can’t get behind nanny warnings on vehicles. Until then, there’s no need for that kinda stuff.

Not sure about how Karen is involved but NO NANNIES please, unless it’s Mary Poppins.
I like the one in the Ram when it can be programmed. I set to warn me when I was at least over 10mph over the posted. Sometimes these small towns drop it from 55 to 35 real quick and you don't notice it.
the space under the bed looks perfect for an aux fuel tank.
Better be used for something, total waste otherwise

And that is what made me switch from a Bronco and Gladiator to Grenadier and Quartermaster. Just sick of the under engineering and lack of qc
Thats a pretty absurd story. Even if true why are you judging any car on a rental model?
OMG, Becky. Did you get extra sugar in your latte too?
Great video. The clicks, beeps, bings, and bongs would be a dealbreaker for me. Every new vehicle i have been interested in over the last 2 years is too electronic, too many screens, too many nannies, too expensive, etc. guess i am keeping my old Land Cruiser 200.
Yeah until your transmission grenades itself in the next 6 months
@@is6566zero chance - unless they can move production into NAM.

The only way to get a truck with a better brake over angle would be for it to be a single cab.
Single cab and shorter bed?
The rear overhang and brakeover is often the same regardless of cab style.
If you can buy a shorter bed, sure.
0:30 the guy said ‘and that is what they did’ past tense, but from my understanding that IS WHAT THEY STILL DO…
Ineos should put a couple of seats in the bed like Subaru did in the Brat to get around the chicken tax. 😉
Recognized the trail immediately, old stomping grounds! Hope you boys enjoyed it
If you are comparing this to a Gladiator you are completely missing the point of this vehicle.
RAM 1500 A$120k but here the competition is the Landcruiser 79 supposedly $80k but good luck finding one at that price.
we just received the email saying the fix is available next month for the ADAS chime.
Holy crap! The price is outlandish. I have a Gladiator Overland with a Rockridge build and it was 6k lower than the base on this. 6k more and I could've had the diesel but they were just to hard to get at the time. It's a hard no for this thing
25% ChickenTax is added to the base price.
@@SaltShack basically because I don't need any of that. I have a BMW and a F250 king ranch. This and the gladiator will never be a legit truck with payloayand towing capacity

Yeaaaa....
Tommy's knees are practically rubbing the steering wheel... Looks real comfy lol
I’d take it any day over any of the other midsized trucks for reliable (apart from the Toyota), but also for everything else it offers. Plus, they won’t be here long, so buying it now is a future investment

700kg payload and less on the Quartermaster is just not competitive, certainly in Europe compared to say a South African build Ford Ranger which has a 1040kg or one Imperial ton [2250lbs] payload. I agree with your assessment. I'd consider purchasing one when my Gladiator tanks AND the price is reduced by ~40K.

Was that a random loose screw floating around in front of the subwoofer? I'm not mad about it, for 100k+ it better come with extra screws.
It would be cool if they were to build an old school 1995 Defender 90 to compete with the Jeep Wrangler(2 door)...
This is officially my dream truck
I can not imagine the service cost for this 'thing' But I guess if you can afford the 100,000+ price tag no problem
Someone just got oil and front and rear diff oil changed. It cost them 400
Solid axles. How hard is it to change the diff fluids yourself ?. I do it on my Wrangler all the time.
@@peopleschamp7258 that sounds on par with something like amsoil grade fluids for something this size.
Im curious about the aftermarket support for this. Things like suspension, bumpers, accessories etc. If it falls short there, it won't be something you see a bunch of during offroad trips
I sat in one at the off-road expo. I'm 6'6". I noticed right away that I would have to move my head down to look out the drivers window. Dumb. Def not worth the price.
We really need to add the tariffs back to Mexico and reduce the tax to 10% for trucks and vans from Europe and Japan.
Which dealerships will carry / sell these vehicles?
So what's with the chicken tax on 4runners made in Japan?? I don't remember there being a big surcharge on my invoices when I've bought my TRD Pro's...
Yeah but they manufacture other vehicles in the US and North America. That's probably how they get around the tax.
It’s all about the vehicle classification. Your 4Runner isn’t a truck it’s classified as a passenger car so isn’t under the purview of the tax which was for trucks or vans. The suv version of the Ineos isn’t taxed like this pickup version.
That makes sense. Thank you for the clarification!!
The price on this thing is unbelievable, no matter how you slice it. Im curious though: The wagon is just as overpriced, yet you love it! Why is that?
Looks really unique!
Happy of my h3 adventure with 15 years and for less than 20k in europe.
